I updated the particle in a number of ways.

I created new MAIN nightvision particles. These are now labelled by COLOR and by LIFESPAN OF TRAIL. a 3 second trail fades after 3 seconds. a 10 second trail takes 10 seconds to fade. the PERMANENT trail will last as long as the particle does. Be careful letting it run too long, it caps out at 10,000 trail parts.
