v2.3

Tom and Jerry Update 2.3 is live!

-SFX for various moves have been adjusted.

-Added SFX for when strongs are being charged from Smash Ultimate.

-Nair has been adjusted so that the attack can connect better while on the move.

-Added a title for Hikaru.

That's pretty much it for this one, enjoy!

Another Quick Hotfix Update:

Tom and Jerry's TCO artwork has been heavily improved!

Yeah, that's pretty much it, and now there's a trailer for the new and improved Tom and Jerry!

v2.1

Okay, so I kinda lied, 2.0 was definitely not going to be the final update. And this update won't be the last one either, but I do want to take a break from updating Tom and Jerry for awhile so that I can work on new fighters, buddies, and stages. The only two changes included with this update have to do with the moveset.

N-air: Now has 5 hits instead of 3.

N-special: Initial damage increased from 1 to 2, Kirby included.

v2.0 (Final Update for now) (Edit: lol this is not the final update)

This update for Tom and Jerry is not as huge as update 1.5, but 2020 marks 80 years of Tom and Jerry! To celebrate this, Tom and Jerry have been updated to v2.0! All changes in this update are purely artwork related, so although there aren't any actual balance changes, below are the three major changes made to them. These are also the only changes that have been made.

-Forward Special: The color of the warp oval has been changed from Purple to Yellow.

-Spawning Platform: Changed to a mouse-hole.

-Win Screen: Added a small detail to commemorate the 80th Anniversary of Tom & Jerry.

Set Tom and Jerry as a finished workshop character since I’m done balancing them.

The next and final update will be ready in February, and will mostly include artwork adjustments. :)

v1.6

Nothing huge, just a quick hotfix update before the next one, but from this point forward, Tom and Jerry's moveset has been locked in and finalized.

This update brings two small changes.

Up Strong - The anvil's lifetime has been increased.

Colors - The alts have been readjusted once more and are also now finalized from here on out. Some of the alts have been adjusted to better represent other Tom and Jerry characters, other characters from classic cartoons, and other iconic duos. Additionally, I also threw in an alt inspired by Genesis 7.

I have one final update planned for Tom and Jerry, so until then, Happy New Year!

v1.5

Tom and Jerry are back for more with a huge update! Buckle up!

Move changes:

-Neutral Special: Reworked! The move is now called Super Spicy Cheese, and will now bounce across the stage instead of moving in a straight line. It still starts out slow, but it will move faster the longer it is out. When the cheese hits, it no longer sends opponents flying away ridiculously far, but will inflict burn DoT.

-Up Strong: Resprited! It's still the same exact move, but instead of an explosion, Tom and Jerry lift an anvil! A new special sound will play when this move lands. If you really liked the old sound effect, then I have good news for you.

-Down Air: Adjusted! The "In Me Power" sound effect will now play when down air is landed! In addition, down air now sends opponents away from the center of the hitbox as opposed to only going up. Because of this change, the knockback has been lowered.

-Up Air: New! Up air does the exact same thing in terms of how it drags opponents down, but you no longer have to spam the move, as the move will essentially loop itself! The move can be cancelled. Also, a new sound has been implemented for this move.

-Forward Tilt: When f-tilt lands, it now plays the same sound effect as for when down strong lands.

-Down Special: Adjusted! The move can now be used both in the air and on the ground.


Miscellaneous Changes:

-HUD Icons: Tom and Jerry have new HUD icons for normal and hurt state, both of which are taken from Tom and Jerry: War of the Whiskers.

-Colors: Tom and Jerry's alternate colors have been heavily improved! I'm going to make even more adjustments to their alts in the future, but please enjoy the new one for now!

-Idle: Tom and Jerry now have a proper idle animation! Even though all it took was to have Tom's tail move, it looks significantly better than before!

-Kirby Copy Ability: Tom and Jerry are now compatible with Kirby! Kirby will copy the Super Spicy Cheese, but instead of Shark Puppet saying cheese when it lands, Kirby does it! Special Thanks to Anguish and the rest of the Kirby Team!

-Trummel/Alto Codec: Tom and Jerry are now compatible with Trummel and Alto's codecs! A special guest even shows up for the dialogue. Special thanks to Muno!

-The Chosen One Drawing: Tom and Jerry are compatible with The Chosen One! Special thanks to YG123 and dreem! The drawing is a little big at the moment, but I'll look into fixing it for a future update.

v1.2 - 1.3 - 1.4

This patch brings lots of changes for Tom & Jerry!

Misc. Changes:
Jerry now appears in the workshop character selection icon alongside Tom.

Basic Movement:

-Run speed decreased to 8
-Initial dash speed decreased to 9
-Though they now have slightly slower running speeds, it will be a lot easier to control them while running.

-Jump start time decreased from 5 to 4
-Faster jumping and faster wave-dashing!

Specials:

Up and forward special:
-You can now wall jump out of up and forward special at any window of either move, a change made for easier recoveries and as per a request that Dan Fornace made to all workshop devs from a Twitter post.

Down special:
-A new healing sound has been implemented!

Attacks:

Jab:
-The hitbox has been readjutsed so that the move won't hit anyone high above Tom.
-Launch angle changed to 0
-Base knockback has been increased from 3 to 4

Down tilt:
-Launch angle changed to 300
-Knockback scaling decreased to .05
-The move is bascially a better combo starter, and better for ground combos.

Forward tilt:
-Damage decreased from 10 to 8.

Down air:
-Damage decreased from 18 to 15.
-Base knockback decreased from 10 to 8.
-Hitbox size decreased to properly match the explosion radius
-Though a select few of Tom and Jerry's moves can kill obnoxiously early, this one really needed to be nerfed the most, which is not really that much, the move will still kill, just not as early as it could before.

Forward strong:
-Base hitpause decreased from 40 to 20, making it faster to start moving again if the move hits, while retaining some of the dramatic effect of landing the move.
-The hitbox has been enlarged to match the explosion radius of Tom's shotgun.
-This is actually a small buff for forward strong because I'm just not going to nerf this move whatsoever. :)

Forward air:
-Base knockback decreased from 10 to 8
-Base hitpause reduced from 40 to 20
-Hitbox readjusted to match the clobbering bat
-The angle flipper has been changed from 6 to 0
-Launch angle changed from 225 to 300
-Basically whenever forward air is landed, opponents will always be sent diagonally downward away from the direction that Tom & Jerry are facing. I also slightly adjusted the knockback so that the move doesn't kill as early as it used to, so I guess you could say I made this move a little more fair ;) (sorry not sorry)

Neutral air:
-All nair hitboxes have been recentered to be in the middle of Tom & Jerry.

Up strong:
-Hitbox readjusted to match the explosion radius.


Whew, that was a lot of patch notes, but rest assured, Tom & Jerry are still the same chaos ensuring character that they have always been! Keep on bashing your rivals with this dastardly duo and have fun!

v1.1: Sprites are now fixed!

The biggest part of this update is that all of the sprites that had weird cutoffs have been fixed. Tom & Jerry have never looked so clean!

Other changes:

-Adjusted the angle of up-tilt.

-Slightly reduced the hitbox of down-strong a little more. Don't worry, it still kills.

-Down-strong also has a new animation!

-Changed around some of the alternate colors to provide more color variety.

v1.0.2: Made various balancing changes;

Running speed: Changed from 7.5 to 8.5.

Forward-Special: Tom & Jerry are now invincible to all attacks during this move.

Up-Air: Does slightly less damage but has an additional hitbox at Tom's feet and Jerry's up-air hitbox has been reduced to match his size.

Up tilt: Does slightly less damage.

Down-strong: The width of the hitbox has been re-adjusted to better fit Tom.

Up-Special: The height of up-special has been slightly reduced.

Forward Strong: The height of forward strong's hitbox has been slightly lowered to make more sense.

Planned Changes: Sprite cutoff fixes, better/working alternate colors, maybe more balancing.
