Update: 12 Dec, 2022 @ 1:37pm

Release v 1.3.2. Updated for v 1.8 'Robe.'

Update: 13 Sep, 2022 @ 7:16pm

Release v 1.3.1. Updated for v 1.7 'Bastion.'

A minor update to simply add compatibility for the new game patch. While I'm intrigued by the new memory system and will likely incorporate it into the mod in future if it is appropriate to do so, I shall have to wait until I have time to see how it works in-game.

Release v 1.3.

  • To better represent the actual state of full communion between Rome and her Eastern churches, Catholics and Maronites now consider each other righteous, rather than astray, after restoring relations with one another.
    • Although this change is localized in the tooltip for the Ecumenism doctrine, that doctrine is mechanically unaffected, and this change should not affect compatibility with other religion mods.
  • Historical Patriarchs now decide whether or not to learn Aramaic (Syriac) at game start, so a particularly-pious John IV should no longer be deprived of his liturgical language simply because of his lackluster education.

Release v 1.2.2.

Minor update to improve compatibility with other mods.

Update: 21 Jun, 2022 @ 12:28pm

Release v 1.2.1.

  • Updated for Crusader Kings v 1.6.1.
  • As a result of changes in v 1.6.1, the Patriarchs John Maron I and John Maron II will now correctly display as such (rather than as John I Maron and John II Maron).
  • Fixed some bugs I introduced in the release of v 1.1.1, when some changes to other Christian faiths were accidentally excluded from my update. Sorry for the inconvenience!

Update: 12 Jun, 2022 @ 12:56pm

Release v 1.2.

  • Patriarch Eusebius (867 start) now knows Aramaic (the in-game attestation of Syriac), and newly-generated Patriarchs will also learn the language if they are appropriately educated or particularly pious.
  • Added the Patriarchal Regalia artifact to represent the mitre and crosier historically gifted to Patriarch Joseph al-Jirjissi by Pope Paschal II in recognition of the restoration of communion between the Maronites and Rome. This artifact will accordingly be gifted by the Pope to the Patriarch upon restoring communion, granting him and his successors +1 Learning per Piety Level and +3 Clergy Opinion.
  • Patriarch Peter III is now a member of the Lihfidid dynasty.
  • Added the Duwayhid dynasty, and made the Amshittids a cadet branch thereof.
    • Added a coat of arms for the Duwayhids simplified from the one they use today.
  • Redesigned the coat of arms of the Mardaite holy order.
  • Sprinkled some Maronite courtiers in appropriate places throughout the world. Maronite courtiers may now randomly spawn in the Lebanon in perpetuity, even if the faith of its counties is converted. Additionally, culturally-Hellenized Maronite courtiers may randomly spawn in southern Anatolia and Rhodes until the eleventh century, in recognition of Justinian II's resettlement of the historical Mardaites in 687. Although historians are uncertain as to the exact religious inclinations of the Mardaites—they may have been Miaphysites or Monothelites—some Maronites today maintain the Mardaites were Maronites, a connection already alluded to by my use of the name for one of the Maronite holy orders. As such, for the sake of flavor, it felt appropriate to expand upon this connection in this manner.
  • The Maronite Church will now be in communion with Rome if the game starts on or after 1 April 1100. This will not affect the vanilla game unless later start dates are added, but may improve compatibility with mods such as Kingdom of Heaven.
A Chinese localization remains in the works, but is proving to be a bit more work than I was anticipating, and as such I have decided to withhold it from this update so that the above features can be released sooner. 我带来的不便表示歉意。

Update: 31 May, 2022 @ 2:37pm

Release v 1.1.1. Updated for Crusader Kings III v 1.6.0 ('Castle').

No substantive changes here, just a patch to add 1.6.0's new Mozarabic and Adoptionist faiths to the game. More updates (and a Chinese localization!) are in the works, but as they could not be completed before the launch of Fate of Iberia, this will hopefully tide you over till then!

Update: 24 Apr, 2022 @ 1:23pm

Hotfix v 1.1. Unversioned hotfix to update the mod thumbnail (thanks, Steam).

Update: 24 Apr, 2022 @ 1:21pm

Release v 1.1.

  • Updated the Maronite faith icon to a proper three-bar Maronite Cross, thanks to the invaluable assistance of MacFhionghuin. The previous two-bar version, as well as a purple version following MacFhionghuin's original color palette, are now included as icons which can be used for player-created Christian faiths.
  • Restored the Levantine culture of historical patriarchs after John Maron II, and assigned them non-procedural, historically-appropriate dynasty names. Where possible, these dynasty names reflect the surnames known to be used by the Patriarchs (e.g., Jeremiah al-Jirjissi) or their known places of birth (e.g., John el-Hamwi); in other cases, Maronite names have been assigned to them, in order to ameliorate the game's rather wanting Arabic name generation.
  • Added a Maronite cross as a colored emblem for coats of arms. In order to retain compatibility with heraldry-focused mods, this emblem has not been added to the coat of arms designer, but can be manually added to copied coat of arms codes by referencing ce_religion_christianity_maronite.dds.
  • Added custom coats of arms for Patriarchs at game start and for the Sarumid dynasty of St John Maron.
