At the time of Desert Storm (1990-91) a regiment (Type 57) had 57 tanks and 670 personnel. A variant was the Type 43 with 43 tanks. (At least initially, the Type 57 had Chieftain tanks and the Type 43 the newer Challenger 1.

2 The nominal increase in tank strength would have added 32 personnel. However, as noted, the peacetime establishment of 30 is even below the strength of the former Type 38 regiment.

3 Conversion to Challenger 1 began 1983-84, with one brigade at a time in BAOR converting. Five regiments converted by 1989; the other five kept Chieftains until the consolidations in 1992-93, and the last regiment in the UK converted 1993-94. By that point, of course, Options had reduced the number of RAC and Household Cavalry regiments.

Completed Redesign of the Backhand Blow scenario to be Battalion Sized Combat like Team Yankee and Team Bravo, which is an U.S. Army armored combat team like First Battalion, 3rd Armored Division 4 platoons composed of four M1 Abrams tanks and 2 HQ tans for a total of ten across the team, as well as five M113 armored personnel carriers, two M901 ITV TOW missile vehicles, an M113A4 AMEV (Armored Medical Evacuation Vehicle), and an M88 Recovery Vehicle. The Mech Platoon is also equipped for anti-tank warfare, armed with M47 Dragon anti-tank missiles and M72 LAW rocket launchers.

When deployed to Germany under brigade commander Colonel Brunn and Major Jordan, Team Yankee is attached to Task Force 3-78 Mechanized Infantry, led by Lieutenant Colonel Reynolds and composed of Team Yankee, mech-heavy (one tank, two mech platoons) Team Bravo, standard infantry C Company (Captain Craven), standard infantry D Company, and an M981 FISTV-equipped artillery team (Second Lieutenant Rodney Unger).

The BTR-D is a Soviet airborne multi-purpose tracked armored personnel carrier. It was introduced in 1974 and first seen by the West in 1979 during the Soviet–Afghan War. BTR-D stands for Bronetransportyor Desanta (БТР-Д, Бронетранспортер Десанта, literally "armored transporter of the Airborne").[6] It is based on the BMD-1 airborne IFV. NATO gave it the designation BMD M1979.
