After careful consideration, I've decided to reduce the resolution from 512x512 to 256x256. While the 512x512 version did fix the blur, it also resulted in a removal of anti-aliasing once it came to the game actually rendering the image. This is what was causing the jagged edges and gaps within lines such as the one within the "R" upon the eagle's chest. Here's[i.imgur.com] an image for comparison.
