There's a lot to like about the campaign. The levels look good and are fun to play, the story was gripping at first, and the mods complimented the story well. It's a solid example of how to make a good custom campaign.
My only complaint is about the story: it kind of fizzles out. There's a Mafia vs Gang subplot that ultimately goes nowhere. The ending was a real disappointment, too. I expected answers, albeit vague ones, but there was just a cliffhanger. I hope you'll make a Part 4 so the story can finally be resolved. If Part 3 is any indication, it will be a great sendoff to the campaigns.
But I can't wait what you guys have in store!
It didn't excactly bother me that there were some unfair enemies, it was just mildly infuriaiting. Nothing too big.
I like the idea of an another campaign. But to be perfectly honest, I think that the Oscar-Nigel-Pardo part of the campaign should end with that campaign. I think it has gone on long enough and it would be nice to see things wrap up.
But I'm all for a Crane campaign.
I know I said ACT III will be the final campaign BUT there will be another side campaign that will explain the ending and clear all the questions marks. Plus there will be more one campaign about Crane's backstory.
I personally made sure of that the levels in ACT III are balanced. I tried to avoid off-screen enemies as much as I can but as the level gets bigger, there is no chance to cut them off but I've put some cover points to help the player. I believe that only level that can be a problem in this campaign is "Deceive". Other than that, the levels were balanced. Some players may have problems with LSD effects as well but I want you know I've done everything I could do to make them balanced. I'm not saying I won't improve them in the next campaign by the way.
Thank you again for your comment and it really makes me happy to see people like you.
Let's start off with the good parts.
-Personally, I REALLY love the story. The twists and turns and all. It was a fun experience.
-I haven't had this much interest in a HLM2 custom campaign since 'A Real Human Bean'. And that was a comedy campaign.
-The level design was mostly good.
-The soundtrack was pretty much what I would except from a campaign like this. Still, not bad. It got me pretty hyped.
-Some of the flashback cutscenes got me feeling bad for Oscar. Won't get into too much detail, but if you played it, you know what I mean.
-THE ENDING. Jesus christ, it was so lackluster. I was on the edge of my seat when Oscar killed Mr. Crane and he was unsure if he actually killed Mr. Crane . Then it just cuts to Oscar and Nigel on a beach and they start wondering about Pardo. I'm thinking, oh great, maybe something is gonna show up or something.
But no, it just ends with them walking off in to the forest. No explanation. Nothing. It just ends there like nothing really happened. You guys could have gone with a more developed ending, but hey, who am I to judge right?
-The level design was sometimes quite, bad. The look on the levels is great, don't get me wrong, but the sheer amount of off-screen enemies killing me left and right, was infuriating.
8,5/10. Unsatisfying ending and annoying enemies don't take too much off of the great story and gameplay.
8/10
@Richard thanks a lot, man!
@N3R I'll publish these levels without the effects in a week.
