I think the new update make logo not match with name.

I have to wonder if its even legal or in violation of the Valve ToS to do what he's done with regards to data collection.

I mean, a corporation selling more me junk food because I said potato chip once is expected these days. A random person getting whatever information he feels like because you downloaded a mod is not.

To the people yeeting about data collection, I'm pretty sure that the electronic spy devices you carry around with you almost 24/7 (smartphones) collect far more data then this ever will.

Again, Steam collects basically the same info itself. The mod author is just showing he's willing to collect data, which doing so at all as a single person who could easily update with malicious code is shady in my book.

YES, you can download it, no problem.

What the author is collecting is basically if, and only if, you unsubscribed to the mod after your first try. Basically what they do is:

1- When you first open the game the mod sends a signal to them written "new", telling that you never played with the mod before (at least not on this installation).
2.1 - If you close and open the game the mod will send a signal to them written "returning", telling that you probably enjoyed the mod 'cause you didn't unsubscribed to it
2.2 - If you do unsubscribe, the mod sends a signal to them written "unsubscribe".

Anyone can confirm it by going to your game's folder/resources/app/mods/realbrands and opening start.js . The function that sends the data is declared in the 14th line.

It's THAT easy. They aren't collecting personal information, please stop saying that it's dangerous and that people shouldn't download it, you are denigrating their image as a mod developer.

Why are you collecting data? You literally do not need to do that, workshop gives you that information. This is super Suspicious. Do not use this mod before we get clear answer what is going on.

This item has now been reported to Steam Support and they say they will investigate further before taking any action. Fingers crossed this gets removed once and for all.

You can already see these stats in the workshop themselves. There is zero reason to collect it.

iTzCallumUK, yes something in the update seems to have screwed things up. I have pushed an update that should fix any and all issues as well as changing the icons and adding a few new companies. Thanks for letting me know!

Just an FYI, mod is kind of broken as of Beta 16 (as it adds more competitors). Like the game still plays fine but for some reason I had Ebay in Social Media, Amazon too.

This mod was a great idea, but data farming subscribers is wrong regardless of the intent. I'm surprised so many people subscribed to this.

I really don't understand how Steam can allow collecting of data from users via workshop

I'd prefer to not download this mod when I don't know the extent of the info you gather, there any way you can detail exactly what it records about players, and/or leave it for download in a non-automatically installing platform?

@Wezly17 Its not the mod... it could be your PC/Laptop but if you have a beast like me and it is lagging you maybe have too many mods active or your storage on your PC/Laptop is dying painfully
