how does the mod actually split process to 2×2 cores?
i'm trying to find how it could behave globaly
Eldelbar 24 Dec, 2024 @ 4:04am
@Nakashi22 the description says specifically that the 4 thread version is for processors with 8 logical processors and 4 cores. You only have 2 cores and as it says in the description, it won't work for you.

bro frackin universe wiki is full of misinformation
Thesmartone777 11 Oct, 2023 @ 6:15am
how odd, worked, the npc's dont slow, but everything else got slightly worse. still a positive trade, but its worth noting.
Nakashi22 19 May, 2023 @ 10:09am
Old "Intel core i5 7th gen" here, the mod seems to make the game worse, the informational application says that this processor has 2 cores and 4 threads

the fact you trust FU explains a lot

The thing is, even in a single player session, the computer acts as both server and client. So the game makes the computer assign a number of logical processors to act as a server, and another number of similar value to act as the client.

All this mod does is change that number for the server from 2 to 4.

TL:DR; Whoever wrote the Frackin Universe wiki doesn't know how things work.

Unfortately, it doesn't work.
"Methods that absolutely never work - Any 'fps improver' and 'thread increaser' mods - these are placebo. They don't work."

"Why they can't work: Starbound mods simply don't have the engine access that would allow them to 'increase threads', etc. Any mod that claims to do so is lying/fraudulent. It doesn't matter how plausible it sounds: they are incorrect or lying."

Starbound isn't Rimworld.
Degostorm 20 Oct, 2022 @ 3:35pm
the mod's outdated, and I don't think it's still being worked on considering that it was last updated like 5 years ago
Lexi Lunarpaw 17 Oct, 2022 @ 8:13pm
Still only using two
doesn't work at all
PhoenixPyre 16 Oct, 2022 @ 7:14am
works great! ty
Caolán_The_Wolf 27 Sep, 2022 @ 11:17am
does this even work?
C7B3R_Rayko 16 May, 2022 @ 3:41am
Does not work
Cigaro 30 Jan, 2022 @ 4:23pm
this is usefull in the latest versions?
Misato Katsuragi 2 Jan, 2022 @ 3:35am
Absolutely makes a difference, especially using frackin and several other high intensity mods. Pre mod I was in an alien corrupted world, would have horrible lag killing and moving (even on my high end((well at one point high end)) pc) and with this mod I can kill and attack the 15+ enemy entities no lag or stutter.
keep in mind I also manually changed my server priority, and used various other fixes as well.
Material Defender 15 Oct, 2021 @ 7:01am
It appears to work for AMD (if you have an 8 core AMD CPU), especially since starbound was probably built using and taking advantage of Intel's Hyperthreading (allows it to work on twice as many threads as cores) and the game using twice as many threads as the workerthreadspool value this mod changes.

Also, If anyone checks the requirements, it doesn't actually say anything for AMD.
Anny 15 Oct, 2021 @ 2:03am
How do I know if this mod really work?
It seem my game won't using them all but did go over to 3 thread
tho still lagging and freeze time to time
Panucci 13 Oct, 2021 @ 11:06pm
Doesn't work, ryzen 3 1200

dont work for me
Frīja 8 Jul, 2021 @ 1:00am
there is not that much a boost does this mod still work?
Frīja 6 Jul, 2021 @ 1:16pm
thank god thank you best mod ever
O Pacheco 9 Mar, 2021 @ 8:40pm
Welp, worked perfectly for me, no more lag, the game is much faster, thank you very much for your work :D
Just A Damn Weeaboo 25 Feb, 2021 @ 4:13pm
Doesn't seems to be working. Only 1 of my 16 threads are being used when I play Starbound
tigerfestival1988 1 Dec, 2020 @ 9:47pm
My CPU has 4 cores and 8 threads. Which one of your mods would you recommend me?
Mono832 4 Oct, 2020 @ 11:41am
This dosent seem to help much for my my 4 thread intel cpu
GuyBronson 9 Jul, 2020 @ 11:33am
I have a problem. I install this and the game runs perfectly, but after I quit and come back later, it runs in this weird pseudo-powerpoint mode where it drops every 3 out of 4 frames and gives me eyestrain
Fei the SCREAMING BEAN! 21 Mar, 2020 @ 5:18pm
this mod made me discover that amd and intel counts cores differently. amd counts logical cores and intel counts physical ones
Syeouu 3 Mar, 2020 @ 10:56pm
is it still working?
TheEndangeredCarmine 2 Mar, 2020 @ 5:57am
So wait what if you only have 4 cores should you go for 4 cores or should you have to only be able to use 2 cores?
Ace Athor 28 Jan, 2020 @ 4:40am
I have an I9, 8 core and 16 threads, the game take 1 thread at 130% clocking and 100% use and cause over heat and unbearable fan noise (with liquid cooling)...
This is not the " lag " the problem, I would like a better distribution of CPU usage
C7B3R_Rayko 25 Jan, 2020 @ 2:02pm
This does not seem to work. I have a 4 core, 4 threaded i5-4590 and I see no difference in CPU usage or fps with this mod on or off.
💖 Officer Hotpants 💖 10 Jan, 2020 @ 9:26pm
Where has this been all my (last three years of) my life? I've searched many times for lag-reducing mods. Thank god I stumbled across that video...
Raseta 23 Dec, 2019 @ 1:20pm
what version of the mod do i need to use with my processor (AMD FX-8320e) this or one of the others.
Da Wrecka 20 Sep, 2019 @ 9:57am
Threads and processes aren't the same thing; I don't know why Chrome insists on having over 9000 different instances, but processes can have any number of threads while only appearing in the task manager once.
El_Mu 20 Sep, 2019 @ 2:15am
is there a fix for the problem when starbound only uses 1 thread? this mod seems to do nothing on my system. still only one istance of starbound in the taskmanager
Mr.Heller 6 Sep, 2019 @ 4:35am
Well, this mod made me aware what my system parked 2 cores without my knowledge, so even if this doesn't work, thank you anyway.
GaruuSpike 23 Jul, 2019 @ 5:56am
Well okay it's not awful but I find 30fps difficult to play in a mouse-controlled game because it basically causes input lag and that's not acceptable
GaruuSpike 23 Jul, 2019 @ 5:55am
I don't think this works with 1.4; even with this mod installed, my CPU usage still caps at 50% (i have 4 cores) and godawful fps
Bits 7 Jul, 2019 @ 4:55pm
Note for everyone: If you have an issue with SB only using 1 core, SB is supposed to use 2 not one and therefore theres an external issue that this mod wont fix.
Kotauskas 22 Jun, 2019 @ 2:06am
Starbound is already 2 thread, read the description lol
Tomami 19 Jun, 2019 @ 2:02pm
2 thread version pls
Anny 9 Jun, 2019 @ 1:46am
Am here to confirm that my game load much faster. normally it take like forever to load but after sub to this am like load speed x200% and the game load all mods with just only like 20 sec or something. this is awesome
Niwoh 21 Apr, 2019 @ 8:02pm
The mod doesn't seem to change anything for me, but after I disabled hyperthreading in bios, the game seems to run better and total cpu usage goes up substantially (from 90-100% on one thread and almost nothing on the other 7, to around 70%+ on all 4)

Maybe someone here can do something with that information lol

win10, quad core cpu, FU and a couple small mods
Da Wrecka 9 Apr, 2019 @ 5:10am
I've seen Starbound go as high as 50% CPU (for my rig, that means 3 cores) with this mod, but only for very brief periods... usually it maxes out around 16-20%.
Jazz 6 Apr, 2019 @ 3:47pm
Had no effect on lag in my game (and yes, I was using the correct mod version).
jupiterbjy 29 Mar, 2019 @ 1:31pm
Not sure what went wrong, but game is still bullying single core for me. Get my thumb up anyway.
Onymous 28 Feb, 2019 @ 11:54pm
This mod didn't help me with my single-player latency spikes on LInux. The mod did apparently do something. There are normally a bunch of threads, including two called "WorkerThread". With the mod, there were instead four of these WorkerThreads. In my case, those WorkerThreads were at the bottom of the list, in terms of CPU utilization. And, with or without the mods, the spikes looked exactly the same in the game.
panzersnapdragon 31 Jan, 2019 @ 3:34pm
Singlehandedly addresses all my most serious problems with the game. Thanks for sharing it!!!
