Mantha 4 Nov, 2023 @ 12:09am
I can confirm this mod still works.
Wandering Mania 17 Jul, 2023 @ 3:41am
Yeah, this one stopped working when the launcher was released way back when. I wish it still did work as there are no other mods that do this same thing; And enforce a '4, 6, 7, 8, or 9' tile placement space.

REDCLOVER 10 Mar, 2018 @ 5:43pm
thank you!

Hey Everyone... Long time no talk. I just posted equivalent Civ6 mods earlier today for cities being 4, 5, 6, 7, 8 or even 9 (yikes) hexes away. Enjoy.
Roaxes 7 Aug, 2016 @ 9:39am
This is a must. Getting tired of seeing 20 cities all around me from one AI. xD
Laze 24 Feb, 2015 @ 6:48am
Thees mods dont seem to be compadible with YNAEMPs latest update. Any idea why?
von Jahgmann  [author] 13 Apr, 2014 @ 5:20pm
@Semal - To be honest I do not know as I have not done any Civ multi-player since the Civ III Play-the-World days. Does Civ5 MP support Modding?
Semai 13 Apr, 2014 @ 5:24am
How to run this in multiplayer?
kongkim 30 Nov, 2013 @ 1:20am
On huge maps its sometimes fun to play with a large numbers of hex between so you need to travle to get to the cities.
von Jahgmann  [author] 29 Nov, 2013 @ 8:05am
@richardwestmoreland67 - agreed :) My original mod was for enforcing 4 hexes between --- which is what I prefer to play at --- but others requested other variants, hence the 2,4,5,7 & 8 versions of this mod.

From my perspective, 4 between means there will be some potential overlap but a nicely reduced amount of AI spam, making for speedier games, particularly on the larger maps.

Cheers.
richardwestmoreland67 29 Nov, 2013 @ 12:01am
Game default is 3 spaces between cities, which is 4 spaces away. If this makes it 7, that seems too far, allowing no overlap of area even for maxxed out cities.
kongkim 27 Aug, 2013 @ 8:36pm
I have i normally use 6 but the game in in now is 5. and it works fine. if you have forto to turn on the 6 mon it will take that over 5. it sounds most like that.
von Jahgmann  [author] 27 Aug, 2013 @ 7:44pm
@cynaide --- After looking at some posts on CivFanatics, I think I have this figured out. When I created this mod I had checked the "Affects Saved Games" checkbox on the Mod Info screen. If I am reading things correctly, clicking that button tells the saved games to not load unless that mod is selected.
von Jahgmann  [author] 27 Aug, 2013 @ 7:40pm
@cyanide --- I'm not sure. To be honest, I have never played with one value and then tried to switch to another.

I started up a game with this mod, but it's preventing me from building a city near a wonder close to my capital. Is there any way to change the limit from 6 to 5 after a game's already started. I've downloaded and enabled the Cities 5 Hexes Away mod (and disabled this one), but the game still says I have to build at least 6 hexes away.
kongkim 22 Aug, 2013 @ 4:54pm
Ohh haha think thats a good idee then :D
von Jahgmann  [author] 22 Aug, 2013 @ 4:44pm
@kongkim --- the game default is 3 --- so I'll leave that to others. ;p
kongkim 22 Aug, 2013 @ 3:44pm
Haha think its really cool you take the time to make them :) Now you only need a 3 a 9 and 10 :P
von Jahgmann  [author] 22 Aug, 2013 @ 12:07pm
I originally created the "4" mod to reduce AI city spam so that I would not have to hand edit the game's XML to get the behavior I like. After uploading the "4" mod, folks promptly asked for sibling "5" and "6" mods too. Done.

Surprisingly, at least to me, yet more folks have since asked for additional mods with the distance set to "2", "7" and "8". At long last, done. Cheers.
kongkim 18 Aug, 2013 @ 7:01am
Yah i also like a 8 or even 10 hex mod to the huge maps :)
Raknarius 17 Aug, 2013 @ 11:49pm
did you ever make that 8 hexer?
von Jahgmann  [author] 17 Aug, 2013 @ 9:39pm
The new version I uploaded today tweaks the game help text to match that mod's city distance change. Short of that, it's the same as it ever was.
von Jahgmann  [author] 17 Aug, 2013 @ 9:39pm
@TerminatorX9. Not sure, unless the cities are on different land masses --- in which case the setting this mod changes does not apply. Normally this happens with cities on satellite island off the coast --- at least in my games. Anyhoo, as far as I can tell there is only a setting for cities on the same land mass, Cheers.
jonemirant 27 Jul, 2013 @ 8:32am
are there suppose to be at least 6 hexes between cities? how come the AI still built in 5?
Marianojoey 27 Jul, 2013 @ 6:00am
Been using this for some time now, and I think it should be standard for Civilization. Is there a way to have this working in normal SP (and MP, if all the players install it correctly), and not having to go to the MODS menu?

Thanks for creating it. :)
kongkim 25 Jul, 2013 @ 3:24pm
If i use this 6hex mod. it still says ingame that i can't build within 4 hex from a city not 6?
Raknarius 11 Jul, 2013 @ 9:46am
thanks so much, i so love this limiting the ai from stealing all my land with mass cities, this mod makes this game funm ty
von Jahgmann  [author] 10 Jul, 2013 @ 8:13pm
@ranthore - Thanks for confirming the mod works with BNW. It is on my list to update the 4,5,6 mods to correct the help text. When I do that, I'll create the 8 for you too. Finding free time is tough, but I should be able to knock that out over the weekend.
Raknarius 10 Jul, 2013 @ 11:15am
ya it works great, any chance youd ever make an 8 tile away version?
von Jahgmann  [author] 8 Jul, 2013 @ 8:11pm
@ranthore. Cool. And appreciated.
Raknarius 8 Jul, 2013 @ 7:39pm
not sure, just assumed it wouldnt work.ill post after i test
von Jahgmann  [author] 8 Jul, 2013 @ 6:31pm
@ranthore --- Does is not work with BNW? I just paid for/downloaded BNW, but have not had the chance to try it yet.
Raknarius 6 Jul, 2013 @ 5:51pm
can we get a brave new world edition of this, this is my fav mod ever
Jackal Dude2 16 Jun, 2013 @ 6:03pm
Oh, it wasn't your mod, it was a problem on my end. It's fixed, it works, and I like it. I had to get used to it at first, but I really like this.
von Jahgmann  [author] 11 Jun, 2013 @ 5:54pm
@jackaldude2 -- the mod works for both Vanilla or G&K and should be compatible with other mods too so long as they also do not explicity also set the cities distance parameter.

Hadn't thought about offering a direct link but that should be easy enough to do. I'll set something up in the next day or two and post the link.
Jackal Dude2 6 Jun, 2013 @ 1:15pm
Download link? It's no t allowing me to download, I've clicked everything I can, subscribe, reate thumbs up, favorite, add to collection, share, and it's not downloaded. This is for vanilla right?
Towl 15 May, 2013 @ 4:05pm
Thanks! I always fucking spawn right next wo kenghis khan lol... thanks man
Marianojoey 11 May, 2013 @ 9:23am
Thanks for this one, I never understood why in every civ game the ai spams cities too close to each other. This feature should be default!. :)
Aexrael 7 Jan, 2013 @ 6:19am
Cheers, I found the parameter in their options file.
von Jahgmann  [author] 6 Jan, 2013 @ 5:07pm
@Aexrael. Unfortunately No. I took a look at the G&K/E mod and they explictly set the distance too. In other words, both mods set the same parameter and only 1 can win. sorry man. The best I could recommend is either hacking the G&E/E XML for the value you'd like it to be. Cheers.
Aexrael 29 Dec, 2012 @ 4:58pm
It appears the functionality of your mod is broken by the G&K Enhanced mod. Any chance you could update your mod to be compatible?
von Jahgmann  [author] 12 Dec, 2012 @ 6:29pm
@kurie72699 - I used to have the problem a couple months ago. My workaround was to unsubscribe to the mod(s) and then resubscribe via the Get Mods display within Civ. That usually fixed it for me. Good luck!
kurie72699 11 Dec, 2012 @ 9:18am
i tried to install this but the mod gets stuck at "Transferring". the file won't DL.
von Jahgmann  [author] 29 Nov, 2012 @ 8:38pm
In my opinion the AI has too much city spam with the default distance value set to 3 hexes. I created mods for distance of 4,5 or 6 hexes, but I personally play at 4. Cheers.
