For those who are using BNW, it's easy to go into the Mod folder and simply replace "SPECIALIST_ARTIST" with "SPECIALIST_ENGINEER."

Thank-you

Yeah, it's on the to-do list once I finish exams. I'm not sure, since the Seventeen-article constitution isn't actually at Horyu-ji, it was just done by the same guy. Wasn't it?

Since BNW changed the way artists work, I recommend you to update the wonder. Since Prince Shoutoku created the first constitution of japan, I think it should grant a free Great writer, 3 culture and a free great slot of writing. Or also could directly have the "Seventeen-article constitution" as a free Work of writing.

I went last year, but sadly was only able to go to Todai-ji while in Nara

Nice wonder. Is it compatible with BNW?

Good mod, good balance, good picture description. Thumbs up.

To be exact, it was a religious college.
Pouakai  [author] 22 Dec, 2012 @ 9:47am
Todai-ji did? Hrm, didn't know that. That could work, although I'd like to do something to signify the huge bronze Daibutsu inside
neokai 22 Dec, 2012 @ 1:05am
Hmmm, maybe + 2 Happiness? Or +2/+4 Science since it also served as a library - that would make a nice break from the +faith/+culture paradigm most religious wonders follow.
Pouakai  [author] 22 Dec, 2012 @ 12:52am
Yeah, but the Mausoleum also has the 100 gold from each expended GP
neokai 22 Dec, 2012 @ 12:44am
True, all the wonders with a situational benefit always give a base effect (Mausouleum comes to mind readily). I was thinking its +2 culture, +1 faith with + 2 faith for each deer worked. A moderate boost with no deer, a monster if your city has 2-3 deer (which is not easy since it's found mainly in temperate, arctic zones)
Pouakai  [author] 22 Dec, 2012 @ 12:31am
That could work, but it'll result in a very situational wonder - you could have no deer, or three deer. It'll still need another effect on top of that
neokai 22 Dec, 2012 @ 12:30am
Another way is that it will modify deer resources to generate faith or culture when worked, similar to how Mausoleum upgrades stone and marble.

Sweet, cheers. Can't wait to check it out
framedarchitecture 12 Dec, 2012 @ 10:09pm
Okay, I'll write up the code and send you a link by tomorrow (assuming I can make it work, which I think i can). best, FA
Pouakai  [author] 12 Dec, 2012 @ 5:46pm
If you would be able to write the code for the Building_ResourceHappiness that'd be awesome. If you had time, it would be great for a bit of lua to add Culture and Faith to the Building_YieldChangesPerPop code for the Florence Cathedral
framedarchitecture 12 Dec, 2012 @ 5:43pm
I think you could do the first in any number of ways, for example if that city has a majority X religiontype followers, then the building unlocks. Or simply convert all followers to X religion upon building completion. Problem is that X religion must have been previously founded... and that could be quite rare depending on game size. I also think the second option is possible with a new table type like Building_ResourceHappiness, though it would involve a bit of lua. If you've decided on taking either route I can write code.

I can do belief bonuses, a la Borobudur, but I'm not sure if I could tie it to a specific religion (Buddhism, for instance). I wonder if it would be possible to make it a happiness boost from deer?
framedarchitecture 12 Dec, 2012 @ 3:39pm
I guess you could write a small script that tried to place a deer resource somewhere in the radius of the city that builds that wonder. Then you'd probably also want to make a forest feature in the city radius a requirement for building the Wonder....
synulia 12 Dec, 2012 @ 3:37pm
Now that I think of it, deer only serves as a source of food in Civ V, and that couldn't be further from the Buddhist morals that allow for Sika Deer to roam Todai-Ji. I do wonder though: You have wonders that give bonuses based on if you follow a certain Social Policy, but can you do the same with wonders that give bonuses based on if you are following a specific religion?
Pouakai  [author] 12 Dec, 2012 @ 3:23pm
Yeah, I saw the deer when I was there. Todai-ji will also be using one of my own photos as a splash screen if all goes to plan. I'm not sure what the free deer source would give - they don't have many benefits beyond tile enhancements
synulia 12 Dec, 2012 @ 11:37am
Brilliant. And I can see that Todai-Ji is on the way as well. Looking forward to it. If it were possible do you think Todai-Ji could provide a free source of deer? One of the interesting things about it is that Sika Deer are allowed to roam all around the grounds, without any fear of being poached. It's hardly a powerful bonus but it would be a nice touch.
