@HeMeK It defaults to setting the languages for the countries whose languages the dub has already covered, but all other nations default to the players' default language.

This mod is not needed as it is part of the game

@SmoliFemboi There is, but it only applies to certain nations where there has been localization for the audio (such as French for both France and Belgium, Spanish for Spain and Mexico, etc). All other nations use the user's default language (for most people, this means American English). This makes it so that many more nations use other languages, even if they don't quite make sense.

There's literally an option in the settings for this.

Good idea for a mod but I was riddled to see the Netherlands had French set as their "new" language (I had expected we would get German as it is close related to Dutch). But 95% of us speak/understand English here though and at most, maybe 10% remember a bit of school French (which is not so close related to Dutch at all).
Though I use a lot of extra Nationalities and Language mods (including Dutch/Chinese/Japanese/Russian etc.) so I can set the mod to use those instead, so thank you for that.

@cthulhuftw It shows. Just open the INI files with notepad. Then you'll see which country has which language it will use upon creating a new soldier for each country. By default it just goes to American English without the mod. With the mod I've made it use various other languages, but you can change them to your liking accordingly.

@RainingMetal I don't know anything about code, I'm a total noob to this, is it possible to have step by step instructions?
RainingMetal  [author] 14 Jan, 2021 @ 6:32pm
@cthulhuftw Then all you need to do is change the string in the +Language variable to whatever you want it to be whenever you make new recruits under each nation. It's not hard.
cthulhuftw 14 Jan, 2021 @ 6:04pm
@RainingMetal I got to that part already, its exactly how you do the changes exactly
RainingMetal  [author] 14 Jan, 2021 @ 4:34am
@cthulhuftw Go into your steam directory. Under steamapps/workshop/content/268500, go into the folder 1137646645. Inside the Config folder open up XComGameBoard.ini. You can adjust the default languages from there.
cthulhuftw 13 Jan, 2021 @ 10:12pm
how do I actually change the settings in the INI files? I'm totally lost at what to do to make this actually work
RainingMetal  [author] 4 May, 2020 @ 1:03pm
@dandop It merely configures random soldiers to use existing language packs for different nations. You can configure them to use any added voice packs should you have them installed as well. It's jarring to see Brazilian, Danish, and Greek soldiers talk like yankees by default.
dandop 4 May, 2020 @ 1:00pm
What does this Mod actually do? does it add new languages and voices to the game?
RainingMetal  [author] 11 Aug, 2019 @ 2:41pm
@Star¤Dagger At least in terms of vocal patterns. Not that there's much to replace it with, but yes, you'll start to see less South Americans, Africans, Asians, and Europeans sounding like they were raised in the US of A.
Star¤Dagger 11 Aug, 2019 @ 1:25pm
OMFG thank you!!!

Now is there a way to LOWER the amount of times Amis show up in your recruits?!
MjoelnerGG 5 Jun, 2019 @ 9:43am
ok i will do that thanks
RainingMetal  [author] 2 Jun, 2019 @ 7:48am
@TRONBJERG Odd. I thought I included all base game nations. Oh well, you can still add it in the INI files and mod it as you please.
MjoelnerGG 2 Jun, 2019 @ 6:58am
I do not see my nation Denmark
RainingMetal  [author] 10 May, 2019 @ 10:56am
Go into your workshop files and open up the INI file. From there you can set up whatever language each nation gets.
SheTheTDE 9 May, 2019 @ 8:42pm
how does this work? is there a setting I need to edit? I'm still getting characters with wrong voices
ElectricBlue 9 Oct, 2018 @ 8:02am
There was only one really good international voices pack for LW that hasn't been updated in a year, does not work with WotC :(
Compo The Smoggie 22 Aug, 2018 @ 6:10am
@RainingMetal

What the game needs is a whole host of other foreign languages other than 3 versions of english, focussing mainly on portuguese, russian, mandarin chinese, japanese. Maybe a few scandinavian languages, a few arabic languages. Greek? Polish? South African? Swahili?
Chiquitetas 18 Feb, 2018 @ 11:16am
thats kinda racist mate....been looking for a brazilian voice pack...its nice to hear yer language (might have misspeled that) every once in a while...CONTRARY TO EL BRADFORDIO
RainingMetal  [author] 9 Jan, 2018 @ 12:09pm
If anyone makes any language voice packs, they can easily use this mod to apply them as a default setting.
yappy118 9 Jan, 2018 @ 11:19am
I feel it is unfair to all the nations listed in this game that appropriate sound files haven't been included. Would it really have been so difficult or expensive to add Chinese, Arabic, Swedish, etc. voice clips?
yappy118 9 Jan, 2018 @ 11:13am
@Cardinal My mother tongue is French and I speak English fluently. No, Swedes have a very distinctive accent and Swedish sounds very different from German, even though I recognize some words, here and there because of my knowledge of English and my German studies (and the context, too). Words like 'man', for example; their pronunciation is different, though. I happen to love a Swedish accent, by the way :)
Cardboards 24 Nov, 2017 @ 8:46pm
@Cardinal No they don't to the average english speaker. The accents sound very different.
RainingMetal  [author] 18 Nov, 2017 @ 4:19pm
Yeah, it was a pretty sterotypical assumption, hence the change. You can always change the language setups to whatever you wish via the INI files.
Cardinal 18 Nov, 2017 @ 3:55pm
While some words in swedish and german are somewhat alike but they sound very different from one another, at least for me who is a swede.

But do the two languages sound alike to englishspeakers?

Not trying to be a smart ass or anything, I'm just curious since many swedes in tv-shows are portrayed with a somewhat german accent.
Dr. Cargo 24 Oct, 2017 @ 11:48pm
Just what I was looking for, thank you.
