can you make it so that Legions can build improvements after upgrading them?

TheCosmicHound the greek phalanx's purpose was not to block missiles it was to create a tight formation that kept enemies at bay and prevented them from pushing through. However the roman testudo's purpose was to protect missiles.

Escellent idea my dear boy, it's only fitting that the people who conquered just about the whole fucking world should get a buff to the military unit that in conjuction with the marian reforms and fantastic generals, made it all possible. Also this mod has great synergy with the ''Legions get Spear throw'' mod.

Barthor, you need to make a rome mod to replace the balista with something else, or buff the balista (cover 1 as well or something) The balista gets rekt in 1-2 hits anytime you try to use it XD)

Is there any way for the legion to retain their ability to build roads and forts after being upgraded?
Barrowulf  [author] 7 Oct, 2015 @ 6:55am
*sigh* (This is why I'm glad I don't mod Civ 5 anymore... everybody is a history expert and/or they want things to be over realistic and less abstract at the cost of gameplay and balance.)

Google "testudo formation". It's Roman.
The Roman testudo and the Greek phalanx are both famous types of shield wall formations. The testudo was a tactic primarily used against missle fire, hence the promotion in this mod.

Rome is underpowered considering how much of an impact it had on history. You should give the legion a "first strike" promotion like the impi because the roman legions were known for their use of the ranged "pilum" to devestate enemy shield formations.

If the legion was historically accurate then it would be the most OP unit in the game.
violator 25 Jan, 2015 @ 12:32am
I hate to say it but the legion should also have a ranged attack.
daniel1318 20 Oct, 2014 @ 4:20pm
were would you put <rangedfiresuppport>true </rangedfirsupport>?
JEELEN 27 Aug, 2013 @ 8:24am
@daniel: use search function, it should be there

So I take it your not going to then make it an alternate to the other two 'tankish' mods you have already done for the Roman Legion then? It would be a nice change to the other two, for a more offensive 'Tankish' unit, since Rome did conquer the Ancient world thru campaigns lead by their Legions. But if not, I'm not a modder, so I guess it won't happen then.

P.S. What do you mean a more offensive and/or mobile sort of unit (i.e. Cav)?
Barrowulf  [author] 26 Aug, 2013 @ 5:30pm
Flavor-wise, I prefer the legion as more of a tankish, juggernaut type of unit. If I were to utilize the impi's spear throw ability on something else, it would be on more of an offensive and/or agile sort of unit.

The impi's spear throw promotion is: PROMOTION_ANTI_GUNPOWDER

To add the special abiity to an existing promotion, I believe you just have to add: <RangedSupportFire>true</RangedSupportFire>

Barathor, any luck with getting the alternate ability (Zulu Impi Javelin's) intergrated for the Legions?
JEELEN 17 Aug, 2013 @ 12:50am
That is the LegionS mod from Kael. ;)

Barrowulf  [author] 12 Aug, 2013 @ 10:20am
Franko, I'll check it out. I'll release it as an alternate mod if it works out, for anybody that might be interested.

Barathor, with the release of BNW and the Zulu's Impi special unit's ability to throw javelins before charging into battle, is there any way for you to apply that to the Legion? The Roman did have Pilla that they would throw before battle at their enemies to 'soften' up the ranks of the enemy before they would charge or be charged.
