Further, in the case of this MCN variant, they are almost redundant, since HIP already providers a lot of such localisations itself.
Yes, there are no sources available for 100% of the locations present in the game unfortunately
e.g. Thessaloniki is "Solunŭ" in Old Church Slavonic, and as such will show up as "Solunü" (with ü instead of ŭ because of CK2's font limitations) for the south slavic cultures, which spoke that language during the middle ages.
Other names that you mentioned: (OCS=Old Church Slavonic, OES=Old East Slavic)
- Serbia is Srbija in modern spelling, but Srĭbіja in OCS
- Kiev is Kyiv in modern spelling, but Kyjevŭ in OES and OCS
- Novgorod is Novgorod in modern spelling but Novŭgorodŭ in OES
There are many names like that for those languages, but also for other non-slavic languages. Wherever the period-accurate names have survived, I've used them if I found them. For the places where they weren't available, later variants, or even modern variants, have been used.
for example 'Solunü' should be just 'Solun' or 'Kijevü' and 'Novgorodü' should all be without ü.
also the kingdom of serbia is spelled as 'Srbija' and not 'Srïbija'.
these are all spelling mistakes i could think of. naturally there would be more errors than i said here which are mostly made in serbian, russian, bulgarian, bosnian and croatian.
Any mod/submod on top of that will work if they don't change the landed_titles file provided by SWMH (a HIP module)
Wessex is localised in MCN as Westseaxe for Old English (saxon culture ID). Though, for the english culture ID it's unlocalised so it will default to the modern Wessex variant. I will have to do some research and see what localisation to add.
Is it possible that Wesseax is not displayed correctly or not yetr implemented? As far as I can tell, the Old English terms are used even after Nordic invasion. In the case of Wesseax, according to Wikidata, it is Westseaxna [wikidata.org]. It's quite similar with Mercia (I haven't conquered it yet as a Viking, so it's just a guess). There it would be Miercna [wikidata.org] in Old English. I hope this is helpful.
Also, as far as I can see Cultural Bonuses should be compatible. Looking at the files I see no reason why it wouldn't work, but I didn't test it in-game.
There are of course valid reasons to have it that way though. There's always advantages and disadvantages, and with this mod I try to address the issue of choice for this particular aspect of the game.
Besides the historical accuracy, for me personally, it's important that if a kingdom (or whatever tier realm) is conquered and "colonised" by a different culture, it should actually feel like that culture. I found it hard to role-play a romanian character/realm when a lot of the names in and around their lands were using foreign lands, even after changing their culture.
Some mods should have slowly been added in the base game by PDS via their many DLC's - Petrum Scuta or Cultural Cities Remix come to mid.
Some mods just bring this old game into modern times - In heaven's Graphic overhaul.
Then we have the mods that seek to add something novel to ones gameplay experience. Mods like the GoT, LotR or Mythos mods. Ironically enough, your mod fits in this final category. Because most people will play this game in english the incredible depth that this mod adds (with just a few name and title changes) would make it harder for most new players to get into the game, but also learn the base game mechanics in the first place. And yet, this is for History nerds what the maps that put you in Westeros are for that particular fandom. Actually, I take that back. People might like to dip their toe in those worlds once in a while, but we history buffs are ok with playing with your mod all the time.
Do you have any other mods besides this one and HIP? Something could be overwriting the file.
As a last resort you could also try manual installation from the latest release on GitHub (link in the description) but that way you won't benefit from automatic updates.

Landsberg -> the region could be "Górzyce", town "Górzyca" or "Górzyc"
Mittlemark -> it's in fact "Middle March" not "Middle Mark", but as in CK3 MCN thread, it would be unhandy to try to translate it. you'd have to do some deeper search for slavic tribes in those region and maybe start with that.
Querfurt -> if you want to go that way, it should be Kwergród or maybe even Kwergrod.
If the community wishes to have such names they are free to make a sister mode, which in fact is exactly what already happened in CK3 as someone created a submod for MCN that only adds made up names.
I allow and in fact encourage such mods. But I cannot commit to do this myself as even in the current form this mod is already *very* time consuming.

About my issue, as it seems it's a HIP-SWMH (even without MCN) feature, but only affected Magyars and that's very weird since I haven't seen it before. Any ideas why it's happening? Could you please check if it's happening to you too? I'm testing it atm with only HIP-SWMH, latest version.

One quick question, have you changed anything to the Magyar setup lately?
I'm using the latest SWMH version and I think that in the previous versions they're using the standard name-surname format, but now they're using surname-name. Are they the only ones that using this specific format?

I am trying - the issue mostly is that I cannot test the changes as I am unable to run any 3D game currently - my laptop's GPU is half dead (even the web browser is artifacting some times)
In the mean time you can use the version on GitHub (download the master branch itself, not the latest release). But I will try to upload this version as is as I'm not really able to buy a new PC for at least another month and I can't pospone the update for so long.
