@Fruitgeris used to provide culture-specific localisation for titles (King, Duke, etc) but this was discontinued somtime around 2020. Since then, this mod only aims to covers location names.
What was available until that point was kept in place due to users' requests but no further development takes place in that area.

Further, in the case of this MCN variant, they are almost redundant, since HIP already providers a lot of such localisations itself.

Also isn't this mod supposed to add native names for cultures? maybe thats the reason why some titles are in english while others are in their own languages.

hi, alot of royal titles for me in game are still in english. By titles I mean the King, Duke, and Count titles. Everything else is fine I think, but for me I have the english titles for the castillian, portugese, leonese, Navarrese, Franconian, Georgian, Armenian, titles there. Please tell me if this a glitch, because I honestly think if you maid a mod for this you would add the titles for these cultures

And again, do note CK2's very limited font set. There are countless diacritics out there accross many languages, and CK2 supports only a small handful. They had to be approximated to supported ones that look "similar enough" or in some cases transliterated to plain latin (e.g. ř to rz)

@golamen as already mentioned by @ メッセンジャー those are either Old Church Slavonic or Old East Slavic names, not modern ones.

e.g. Thessaloniki is "Solunŭ" in Old Church Slavonic, and as such will show up as "Solunü" (with ü instead of ŭ because of CK2's font limitations) for the south slavic cultures, which spoke that language during the middle ages.

Other names that you mentioned: (OCS=Old Church Slavonic, OES=Old East Slavic)
- Serbia is Srbija in modern spelling, but Srĭbіja in OCS
- Kiev is Kyiv in modern spelling, but Kyjevŭ in OES and OCS
- Novgorod is Novgorod in modern spelling but Novŭgorodŭ in OES

There are many names like that for those languages, but also for other non-slavic languages. Wherever the period-accurate names have survived, I've used them if I found them. For the places where they weren't available, later variants, or even modern variants, have been used.

why do some south slavic and russian title/county names have that weird letter ü at the end of each letter?
for example 'Solunü' should be just 'Solun' or 'Kijevü' and 'Novgorodü' should all be without ü.
also the kingdom of serbia is spelled as 'Srbija' and not 'Srïbija'.
these are all spelling mistakes i could think of. naturally there would be more errors than i said here which are mostly made in serbian, russian, bulgarian, bosnian and croatian.

I'm not familiar with that mod. This version of MCN is officially only compatible with any default non-custom installation of HIP.
Any mod/submod on top of that will work if they don't change the landed_titles file provided by SWMH (a HIP module)

Wessex is localised in MCN as Westseaxe for Old English (saxon culture ID). Though, for the english culture ID it's unlocalised so it will default to the modern Wessex variant. I will have to do some research and see what localisation to add.

Is it possible that Wesseax is not displayed correctly or not yetr implemented? As far as I can tell, the Old English terms are used even after Nordic invasion. In the case of Wesseax, according to Wikidata, it is Westseaxna [wikidata.org]. It's quite similar with Mercia (I haven't conquered it yet as a Viking, so it's just a guess). There it would be Miercna [wikidata.org] in Old English. I hope this is helpful.

@ofMontes Full SWMH is required and Mini-SWMH will not work.

Also, as far as I can see Cultural Bonuses should be compatible. Looking at the files I see no reason why it wouldn't work, but I didn't test it in-game.

To me having a map fully in english, is like having it in monochrome.
There are of course valid reasons to have it that way though. There's always advantages and disadvantages, and with this mod I try to address the issue of choice for this particular aspect of the game.

Thanks for the kind words :D Improving the historical accuracy (as much as possible, period-accurate names and spelling variants are hard to find) is certainly a big aim for this mod, as well as improving the immersion in general.

Besides the historical accuracy, for me personally, it's important that if a kingdom (or whatever tier realm) is conquered and "colonised" by a different culture, it should actually feel like that culture. I found it hard to role-play a romanian character/realm when a lot of the names in and around their lands were using foreign lands, even after changing their culture.

Some mods are nice to have - MNR, Auto builder, color buttons.

Some mods should have slowly been added in the base game by PDS via their many DLC's - Petrum Scuta or Cultural Cities Remix come to mid.

Some mods just bring this old game into modern times - In heaven's Graphic overhaul.

Then we have the mods that seek to add something novel to ones gameplay experience. Mods like the GoT, LotR or Mythos mods. Ironically enough, your mod fits in this final category. Because most people will play this game in english the incredible depth that this mod adds (with just a few name and title changes) would make it harder for most new players to get into the game, but also learn the base game mechanics in the first place. And yet, this is for History nerds what the maps that put you in Westeros are for that particular fandom. Actually, I take that back. People might like to dip their toe in those worlds once in a while, but we history buffs are ok with playing with your mod all the time.

Hmm that's weird. You could try to unsubscribe, run the launcher and confirm it's gone, check the files to confirm there too, and then resubscribe and see if it's ok. Sometimes either Steam or the launcher (I'm not sure which one) is not downloading mods correctly.

As a last resort you could also try manual installation from the latest release on GitHub (link in the description) but that way you won't benefit from automatic updates.

@RAC Did you install MCN by subscribing to this Workshop page, or by manually downloading it? Also, please note that this version is for HIP+SWMH. Do you have HIP installed and enabled? If so, does HIP have the *full* SWMH (not mini-SWMH) module installed?

Hey, sorry if this is a dumb question, I'm not much of a modder, but when I use this mod, only the changes in the excel files in the localisation folder actually seem to happen, but not the ones in the txt files in the common folder - e.g. if I'm playing as a Roman character, Kingdoms will become Regnums, Emperors will be Imperators, etc, but Denmark ruled by a Roman ruler doesn't become Dania, as the swmh_landed_titles.txt would seem to indicate it should? Do I need to move the file somewhere else within the mod folder? Much thanks for your help.

Landsberg -> the region could be "Górzyce", town "Górzyca" or "Górzyc"

Mittlemark -> it's in fact "Middle March" not "Middle Mark", but as in CK3 MCN thread, it would be unhandy to try to translate it. you'd have to do some deeper search for slavic tribes in those region and maybe start with that.

Querfurt -> if you want to go that way, it should be Kwergród or maybe even Kwergrod.

Creating new names is out of the scope of this mod. The scope is historical names. Names that are out of period (within reason) are fine, but made-up names not really. This has been the idea and scope of the mod from the beginning.

If the community wishes to have such names they are free to make a sister mode, which in fact is exactly what already happened in CK3 as someone created a submod for MCN that only adds made up names.

I allow and in fact encourage such mods. But I cannot commit to do this myself as even in the current form this mod is already *very* time consuming.

I'm a bit hesitant to include translations of names. Usually I add them when it's names of saints (e.g. Saint Martin) which are fine, or names that are based on cardinal points (e.g. Osterland) which are sometimes ok, but others like Landsberg are a bit too much IMO - and especially the Mansfeld one

Ok so this is a HIP feature. I've looked in the culture files for HIP and hungarian has "dynasty_name_first = yes". I can confirm that changing it to "no" switches his name to "Kiraly Salamon of Magyarorszag"

In case you want to make that change for your game, the file is "mod/Historical_Immersion_Project/common/cultures/00_cultures.txt", line number 4459.

@G.Strategos Yes, I can confirm that little Salamon's name is the same for me as well on a new 1066 start with just HIP enabled. "Kiraly Arpad Salamon of Magyarorszag" (with some diacritics here and there)

About my issue, as it seems it's a HIP-SWMH (even without MCN) feature, but only affected Magyars and that's very weird since I haven't seen it before. Any ideas why it's happening? Could you please check if it's happening to you too? I'm testing it atm with only HIP-SWMH, latest version.

@G.Strategos Unfortunately not :( I'm still on my stone-age laptop and have to use GFN to stream my games... I really wanted to buy a new PC but everything is *still* out of stock.

And in regards to the naming format, nope. That area is not covered by MCN. Is this problem still happening when MCN is turned off?

One quick question, have you changed anything to the Magyar setup lately?
I'm using the latest SWMH version and I think that in the previous versions they're using the standard name-surname format, but now they're using surname-name. Are they the only ones that using this specific format?

@G.Strategos I was going to update it but there are many real-life and PC issues that prevented me from doing it :(

I am trying - the issue mostly is that I cannot test the changes as I am unable to run any 3D game currently - my laptop's GPU is half dead (even the web browser is artifacting some times)

In the mean time you can use the version on GitHub (download the master branch itself, not the latest release). But I will try to upload this version as is as I'm not really able to buy a new PC for at least another month and I can't pospone the update for so long.
