Separate reskin only version please?

Can you update it to be compatible with 2x unit size?
Arbiter Thel 16 Mar, 2022 @ 11:07am
any update on IB3?
Lmao Zedong 7 May, 2021 @ 7:49pm
Just started a new campaign to check again, and yeah same issue, can only recruit it in Constantinople.
Lmao Zedong 7 May, 2021 @ 7:31pm
Yeah I've got that DLC
Alaric  [author] 7 May, 2021 @ 7:21pm
@Lmao Zedong

No problem!
Hmm.. maybe I enabled them only in larger towns and cities. Do you have the last roman dlc?
Lmao Zedong 7 May, 2021 @ 6:58pm
Thanks for the reply, just got a bit further in my campaign and conquered Constantinople as the WRE. For some reason this seems to be the only place from which I can recruit the Equites Taifali.
Alaric  [author] 7 May, 2021 @ 9:26am
@Everyone

Hello! Sorry to bother you, just a friendly reminder/tip:

Ok, so I just updated a list of required items - DLC and mods - that you should really subscribe to if you want to enjoy this mod at it's fullest potential.
I should have done this from the beginning, sorry for that, my bad!

There's more recommendations in the description, they won't make much difference to the features of this mod but (like any mod) they bring their own changes and are also worth it.

Please consider that each person has their own mod list and load orders and I can't guarantee absolute compatibility if you use more mods besides the recommended ones alongside this mod. So please bear that in mind and always read the descriptions of every mod you subscribe to.

Reskin only mods all work fine with this, but if some of those mods cover the same units as this then it's a matter of adjusting the load order to get the skins you want to overwrite the others.

Thank you for your time!

Alaric  [author] 7 May, 2021 @ 9:00am
@Lmao Zedong

Heck, now that I think about it I might have even done the same for some vanilla units...
In fact, one of the mods I recommend to be used alongside mine (the links are in the description), is a mod that gets rid of the upgrade system (sort of).
And also, due to laziness and practical reasons, the new units in this mod are just units from the last Roman DLC brought over to the vanilla campaign - so you'll need that DLC. Avoid playing the Last Roman campaign with this mod active, in fact while using this mod just stick to the grand campaign (the DLC's made for the grand campaign work fine too).
Alaric  [author] 7 May, 2021 @ 8:53am
@Lmao Zedong

Tbh my friend I can't recall for sure cause I've made the mod about 3 and a half years ago :steammocking:

But, since I hate the units unlocking by tech system and the upgrade system too, I think I made all these new units recruitable from the beginning on certain buildings (no matter the level of those buildings).
I just can't recall for sure where I put the equites taifali or if I accidentally missed them. I'll check the DB of my mod soon and I'll let you know where to find them, or if I skipped them I'll correct that.

Cheers, and have a nice weekend! :steamhappy:
Lmao Zedong 7 May, 2021 @ 6:30am
So how do I recruit the equites taifali?
Lmao Zedong 5 May, 2021 @ 11:50am
Yes that one, I cant seem to recruit it at all in the campaign, is it locked behind a tech? This and two other reskin mods (they arent for the romans) are the only ones I have enabled.
Alaric  [author] 5 May, 2021 @ 10:40am
@Lmao Zedong
The Equites Taifali?
Lmao Zedong 4 May, 2021 @ 1:38pm
In custom battles for the WRE theres a archer cav unit (forgot the name) but how do you recruit it in campaigns?
Alaric  [author] 13 Apr, 2021 @ 2:38pm
@Nerovar

Thanks again for your feedback! :steamhappy:
Indeed the cav does seem to be OP, I'll have to adress that. In terms of formations sadly CA gave very few choices and varieties of formations to Roman units, and in this mod I made it so that all infantry Romans have the formations that would make sense for them to know (besides editing the stats).
Nerovar 13 Apr, 2021 @ 11:26am
Great to hear that there's still so much going on in Attila's modding community. Looking forward to IB3.
Nerovar 13 Apr, 2021 @ 11:25am
I don't necessarily disagree. However, I think the Romans are in a pretty good spot in the vanilla game already. What they lack in melee attack and raw damage they often make up for with their good armor and strong formations (like Testudo). Units like Comitatensis remain viable for pretty much the entire span of a campaign.

I was just comparing the best T2 Roman shock cavalry (Clibanarii) with the best T3 Sassanid shock cavalry and the Romans outmatch them in terms of charge bonus, melee attack and melee defense.

Similarly, the Roman T1 general bodyguard outmatches T3 Saxon bodyguards in terms of melee attack, melee damage and melee defense (compared to other T1 bodyguards it's not even close).

I did some testing and found that just one unit of Palatina Herculiani (T2) and the T1 bodyguard will easily butcher a Saxon force consisting of a Nordic Warlord (T1 general), Chosen Warriors (T3) and Gesithas (T3) even without using formations and abilities. It's a bit much.
Alaric  [author] 13 Apr, 2021 @ 8:25am
@Nerovar
And sorry again for the huge essay and all the comments, I had to split it in parts cause of the chracter limit.
Alaric  [author] 13 Apr, 2021 @ 8:24am
@Nerovar

I don't know if this will change your mind, and sorry for the huge essay here :steamhappy:
but I really believe the mod is well balanced for the other vanilla factions since CA made the vanilla Romans total crap to raise artificially the challenge of playing as the Romans, especially WRE. And not to mention the ridiculous cheats the AI has over the players and the criminal buffs the Huns are given also. I think this mod alongside some others that address these issues make for a more reallistic and organic vanilla campaign. And if we look back, had WRE managed to stabilise their economy and stop the greed and corruption of high ranking politicians, nobles and generals they would not have fallen so soon or even at all.

Thanks for reading and cheers my friend! :steamhappy:
Alaric  [author] 13 Apr, 2021 @ 8:24am
@Nerovar And only then I could mount a proper expansion campaign. (The Celts and Berbers at the begging don't count cause they are just really too fragile and isolated to not take advantage of wiping them out from the beginning and getting a few extra towns and income).

Alaric  [author] 13 Apr, 2021 @ 8:23am
@Nerovar Once some of the Germanic kingdoms were conquered or pressed in allying with me I finally declared war on the Huns and got sweet sweet revenge (It was still hard to fight their cavalry armies in the open even with my improved Roman units) and eventually killed Attila and won the Campaign. I could have continued forwards with the same strategy and possibly conquered the whole map, but I was getting tired and had many turns in already so I stopped. I had a decent challenge in my opinion, even with the buffed Romans I could not steamroll medium or strong factions, and military might alone would not have worked so well. I really had to stabilise the economy, secure loyalties of nobles and do a lot of diplomacy all of this whilst fending off attacks and dealing with raiding hordes.
Alaric  [author] 13 Apr, 2021 @ 8:22am
@Nerovar Regarding the Roman units I wanted them to be the best infantry in the game as I believe this is how it actually was back then. To defeat the Romans you must try to overwhelm them and try to outsmart/outmanoeuvre them. And to survive as the Romans you must not fight to many wars at once and try to take out your enemies in smaller groups.
For example on my first campaign with this mod, playing as WRE, I immediately dealt with the Celtic peoples and the Berbers in northwest Africa. After that I dealt with some horde nations on my territory and fended off some Germanic attacks on my cities. I never ever went to war with ERE and left the Huns for absolutely last - always at peace with them even though they spent the entire campaign raiding me.
Alaric  [author] 13 Apr, 2021 @ 8:20am
@Nerovar Hello! How are you doing? Thank you very much for your feedback and kind words!
I'm very happy and surprised to see I still get comments on this mod and still have people using it and enjoying it after all this time :steamhappy:

The update is indeed in the works. I'm part of the Invasio Barbarorvm III - IB3 team. It's going to be a historically accurate overhaul focused on Aetivs and Atiila. We are still in WIP phase and since I joined them back in mid 2018 I've learned a lot of new military history knowledge of this time period - so hopefully after IB3 is out I'll be able to update this one as well with the knowledge and experience I've been accumulating from working in IB3.

Nerovar 13 Apr, 2021 @ 6:08am
This one of the coolest reskins for Attila's grand campaign. The textures all look very clean and fit in with vanilla models. Sadly, the stat changes make the Roman units pretty OP which takes away from the challenge of the game.

Looking forward to the update you mentioned in the comments (assuming it's still in the works).
Alaric  [author] 24 Jan, 2021 @ 11:40am
@Solstice

Yup Rome (WRE and ERE) plus the Goths (Visi and Ostro) are also my favourite factions in this game :) And the period between Aurelian and Justinian is my favourite in History.

I'm glad to know you found this mod out and I hope you enjoy using it!
Cheers :)
145/240V 23 Jan, 2021 @ 9:45pm
Just stumbled upon this mod out of the blue. The Romans and the Goths are my favourite factions too, and while Romans obviously get a large amount of attention, the goths are severely lacking when it comes to representation in vanilla and mods. I'm keen to try this out and settle the boys in Hispania and Illyria!
Alaric  [author] 18 Jan, 2021 @ 9:26am
@Arbiter Thel

A follow up on my previous comment:

The vanilla Romans are so bad, many of the units lack missile weapons, formations like even basic shield-wall or testudo.
I guess CA did this do make the factions more "balanced" between each other, but to me it makes the Romans a joke.

While this mod is far from being a super historically accurate overhaul, I wanted to show the Romans some love, cause I really do believe in the 5th century they still had the best "all rounded" army and the best infantry in the world.
It was mostly politics, bad administration, lack of manpower, the troops being spread thin, out manned and outnumbered that led to the gradual fall of the empire's western territories.
Alaric  [author] 18 Jan, 2021 @ 9:25am
@Arbiter Thel

Hello! Thank you for your feedback. I'm super happy to know that even 3 years later my mod is still being used and enjoyed :) :) :)

To answer your question: I have an update for this mod in the works, with even better skins (I have been busy with other projects and IRL so I don't know when I'll finish it). When the new one is out I may consider a re-skin only version.

However I can assure you the stat changes in this mod are fairly balanced and reflect the quality of the professional Roman army units without making them OP.
Arbiter Thel 17 Jan, 2021 @ 10:41pm
this is simply incredible. i do have to ask one question, are you able to make another upload of this without any stat changes? like a simple reskin? the textures are just so amazing
Alaric  [author] 27 Sep, 2020 @ 6:20am
@Juanplay Hello! How’s it going?
The crests were made by the “Battle of Adrianople” mod team, if I’m not mistaken they are adapted from the “Constantine Rise of Christianity” mod.

Cheers :)
Juanplay 26 Sep, 2020 @ 11:12pm
Did you make those new feather crests?. They look great

Good work mate.
Alaric  [author] 18 Aug, 2019 @ 6:15am
@Evangelos Seleucos

It probably will. I am currently on a team that's working on a major overhaul for attila, so when that comes out it will be a very historically accurate mod ;)

Cheers!

@Alaric

In the new version this model will be included?
Alaric  [author] 17 Aug, 2019 @ 5:36am
@Evangelos Seleucos

Ah yes the intercisa IV helmet :)
It already is in the mod, but the current model is not as accurate as the real one is. In the future there shall be an uptaded version of the mod with better models.
Flavius Evangelos 17 Aug, 2019 @ 1:55am
Is it possible add this helmet ?

Well said my friend ;)
I'll keep you and my subscribers up to date on any changes or new stuff by commenting here and on my other mods!
twilightgraphix15 20 Jul, 2019 @ 10:52am
@Alaric

agreed, atilla imo is the best game in the series unmodded and needs the least amount of modding to be enjoyable, rome 2 with dive et impera is unmatched, Med 2 will always hold a special place for me but there are definately things the newer games do better, even if i miss some things about the older games
Alaric  [author] 19 Jul, 2019 @ 8:19am
@twilightgraphix15

Yes both the classical period and the "byzantine" east romans are great settings too ;)
And to me Atilla and Rome 2 with mods are right up there with medieval 2 as my favourite TW games so far :)
twilightgraphix15 19 Jul, 2019 @ 7:50am
@Alaric

My favorite will always be the classical period, but after that dark ages for sure esp East rome. for me its the nikephorus phokus and basil era armys. The theme system and subsequent tagmata armies are one of the most well functioning and interesting armys in history almost like feudalism done right. just imagine if the east didnt have so much inner turmoil following the fall of the west.
twilightgraphix15 19 Jul, 2019 @ 7:02am
i look foward to it i tried getting into warhammer but i cant get into the fantasy setting. i keep coming back to atilla, imo despite its reputation i feel that its one of the best titles in the franchise.
Alaric  [author] 18 Jul, 2019 @ 3:44am
@twilightgraphix15

Oh my friend how I understand you! I was doing the same, not settling on any reskins, and I decided to make my own, and I still couldn't settle on this version too. At some point this mod had the stealth shields but then I reverted back to aveti's byzantine shields because of clipping issues. Now I just said to myself, better have the correct models and some clipping than to avoid clipping at all costs. So yeah in the future I'll update this :)
Stay tuned too cause like I told @Bubble there's a major historical overhaul on the works and I'm part of the team (very talented modders they are!!)

Definetly underated the early dark ages. My favourite period of Roman and European history is definetly from Constantine to Justinian and Belisarius ;)

Thanks for your feedback and cheers :)
twilightgraphix15 17 Jul, 2019 @ 11:40pm
@Alaric Yess! stealth 4 healths shield models would honestly make this mod perfect. im constantly switchin between roman reskins because the historian in me battles the realist in me. i cant settle on one. i always find the one thing that bothers me, im currently between this and roman hd. but i find ur models and unit changes so pleasing esp from the perspective of the empire surviving and gaining lost strength. your mod is amazing and glad to see people still modding in atillia, the fall of rome and early dark ages are so underated.
Alaric  [author] 10 Jul, 2019 @ 3:41pm
@Bubble

No problem! The ones I'll use are stealth 4 health's late roman oval scuta ;)
Bubble PP-Bizon 10 Jul, 2019 @ 2:30pm
Thanks also to you, and for historical correctness, I made a grammatical error: 8-12 mm, not cm thick, obviously.
Alaric  [author] 10 Jul, 2019 @ 10:14am
@Bubble

Hello! First of all thanks for your feedback and compliments :)
I'm currently working with a team on a major historical overhaul for attila, but I also intend at some point to update this mod or make a new version of it. The bigger shields and the correct deir-el-medineh will be feautured in this future update/new version.

Cheers!
Bubble PP-Bizon 10 Jul, 2019 @ 9:16am
What happened to the different version of the mod with the historical shields? However I would put them in the official mod because in every mod with historical shields there is clipping and therefore you shouldn't worry so much. The current size is not so bad and it doesn't have to be huge but according to the findings and the late antique reports the shields were both circular that ovoid, plates with a slight concavity and a height around 100- 118 cm (respectively for the two types), with a width of 95 cm and a thickness between 8 and 12 cm. I'm not a modder so I don't know what proportions you used.
Except this, although I'd like to see a properly worn a Der el medineh helmet, the skins are really very, very beautiful.
Tiberius 22 Mar, 2019 @ 4:45pm
Alaric  [author] 4 Aug, 2018 @ 9:00am
@Jabril

I can't say for sure as it changes some unit stats and faction availability for some units. But apart from that it's mostly a reskin. I would play on the safe side and start a new game, but please let me know how it goes ;)

Sorry if I couldn't help you better!
