how about turbine props with variable diameter? To don't have square "engines" with 4 subgrids for airliners. But to have one 9.5-10 small blocks prop, placed inside the round "engine". Or to be able to place smaller "engines" for regional jets / fighter jets / etc. Could do it by myself, but I don't have any opportunity to scale the original model. The only way to scale it afaik is scaling the model before processing into .mwm

i can understand that it's intended, but in reality it's kind of a balancing issue.
because if you use a large balloon, you end up having to add a lot of weight / mass in order to even be able to land it, which in turn increases the total mass, and you need bigger / more steam engines to even propel it, which in turn makes it even heavier and slower again, and so on.

and at those sizes it starts afflicting the sim speed on servers.

nevertheless, it's still an awesome mod!

You mean with the heat panel closed? This is intended. Not all heat is blocked so the balloon still has some lift. I think its like 25% of max lift

the balloons never have 0 lift when they're turned on.
i always need a crate full of ore to even be able to land with the big balloon. otherwise i'd be stuck at a height of 450 metres on minimal lift, which makes these even more expensive in survival :D

The balloon "breaks" without noise or animation: just disappears with the rope and its eye plate.
I've considered to place the balloon directly on the grid, however I was never able to do it but once, and just for a small grid attached to a large grid standing on the ground. Adding the balloon to a free grid seemed to be impossible for me, but I'll keep trying.

I see, it breaks the balloon when the rope breaks? Or does the balloon just fly off into near space? :D
I suggest not using ropes. Just attach the balloon directly to your grid. Place it above center of mass then all should be stable

:mystpirate:Cause: the problem seems to be in the rope as large balloons can lift more than how a rope can sustain (so it's not a mod issue).
The balloon's disappears together with the rope and its eye block because of excessive stress on the rope side.

:cogwheel:Solution: it's possible to attach some timbers to the large balloon's chest, then add eye blocks to them and, finally, connect these ones with ropes to an equal number of eye blocks on the airship's gondola.

it has fixes for the download problem and some other minor fixes. Just download those files and overwrite the files in this folder: steamapps\common\MedievalEngineers\Bin64

its not a unity game. they made their own engine. Only the physics engine is not custom made.
The "refusing to shut down" problem happens a lot. I always check taskmanager (details tab) to see if its not running when I shutdown

I've been at this #$% trying to figure out why it refuses to shut down some times. It's a Unity game. shame they left it is such disarray. I really like the game.
I'm in this for the propeller.

I tried subscribing to it and it sits there trying to download mod 15 of 15. Then I subscribed to the remote rope component and that seems to have another depend. too but I can't get that.

oh you need the research for it, and the huge propeller is not added to it (need to fix).

ok, understood - 0.7 The Great Mod Destroyer Update! never seen the rope eye plate taken away like that... any idea why the fire bucket wouldnt be placeable?

I don't know why but since 0.7 attaching the balloons to a rope causes it to vibrate like that. I suggest placing it directly on your grid, or add some blocks to the balloon and then attach it by rope

playing admin in ds survival mp server and the Balloon Fire Bucket can be put into inventory from SHFT F10 but does not allow itself to be placed, also it does not show as a craftable thing in the furnace... FYI; i tied a charcoal lit balloon to a rope hook and it vibrated for half a minute then the balloon, rope and rope hook all vanished...

I was also experiencing it on two different ships, one had a large steam engine and medium bronze prop, the other was a huge steam engine with a large bronze prop

Are you aware that there are phantom forces on both the bronze water propellers and the wooden propellers in this mod? There seems to be some kind of weird runaway effect especially when the mass is low; they instantly spin up to max speed and either don't slow down or takes ages to do so.

hey man i'm having the same issue with the large balloon as spock, with massive lag when to move around near terrain. its fine when their stuck to the ground or very high up, its just when there about 5-6 meters from the ground that my game speed chugs like hell.

they increased the weight of coal by like 1000%, I will probably change the mass of coal in this mod and some others that use it as fuel

Has the lift of the balloon been radically decreased, I am finding that an unattached balloon cant lift off even with half inventory filled with coal. Prior to 0.7 a fully fueled balloon could lift a fair amount.

I love making floating watchtowers with this mod. Great way to mimic flying in survival mode for planning out the layout of a new castle/city

I also had an issue with the large balloons. The world would start to lag like crazy. This is a beast of a PC with a 12gb titan gpu, so its weird for anything to make it run slow. It was slow enough to make the game stutter and glitch out. Immediately returned to normal when I deleted the large balloon

There seems to be a bug in the game with dependency mods. It seems to break the use. Will see what I can do but if it can't be fixed will have to remove the keybinding control of the paddle

Even if the torch bit is highlighted I just get Access Inventory, Drag, Connect Rope, and connect rope channel for lift. Everything but lighting it

I can't seem to get the option to light the fuel anymore. I don't know what I'm doing wrong. Maybe an issue with .7? Or just my own issues? lol
