Hi, I have SOS2, which means. that I can travel and generate new planets. Do the moons will show up then? (In a Savegame?)

I think this is a really neat idea! My partner was looking at doing some modding for this game, but has only ever modded other games, so if he ends up wanting to I'll send him your way and he may be able to help you with this if you're still working on it. I'm an artist and have been itching to do some designs for a mod but don't have a clue how to code. I'd love to see this mod become its own playable biome etc :D

@Kolljak I thought about that as well, but I also wanna try my hand at seeing what can be done w the resources that the game has to offer atm. Mostly cuz who really knows when 64bit support is gonna happen, ykno? Plus, completing this before 1.0 means that I know exactly what to change from a known baseline. But hey, this is moving at near snail-pace as it is, so I may end up having to wait anyway :P

You will most likly need to wait till tynan upgrades the game to 64 bit. if he does at all. simply having 2 colonies eats up 3.4gb of the 4.0 gb that its using atm. and thats vanilla. might be whats taking 1.0 so long. can only hope.

@luis.mendez6 I wouldn't say NO hope. I've been working on it for a while now but I'm pretty much still a beginner at this sort of thing. Plus, as of 2 months ago, I'm currently working on it without help :| So inch by inch, I'm figuring out how to get this to you guys, but ykno... any and all help would be GREATLY appreciated. you could just add an incompatabile mod that add terrain so when worldgen is operating you get the error code to why it's not genertaing. after that just fix the code so the area generates and use it to add your moons as terrain and landing points.

take what im saying with a massive pillar of salt because I'm a C/C++ guy and know nothing about C# or rimworld's systems.

But, you can look into how maps are generated via caravans and debug menu new-map thing. One would assume it goes by the tile info, getting the set biome and terrain. Perhaps you could make your own version. So, instead of it being generated by world creation, it would be manually set by your mod. By having the biome info not part of rimworld's biome system, it wouldn't appear naturally.

Default rimworld, along with the prepare landing mod, should contain a lot of the code you need to attempt something like this.

Thanks for the great ideas you guys! I'm still trying to figure out how to get the map gen to work as an alternate option when launching a ship. I'll be honest, tho. I'm stumped :P Any and all info and help with regards to on-demand map gen is extremely welcomed!

great mod! and scince everyone else has left advice, here's some of my own! you should add events based off of each moon, like a eclipse for the gas dwarf that gives off more light and heat, but, slowly poisions colonists over time. as for the destroyed moon, you could have peices of the moon fall down somewhere on your map. and for the normal moon, you could add a tidal event that raises water levels and attracts fish like creatures to your area for a few days. It's just an idea, but i think it would be neat!

Why would we have constant amount of damage? That doesn't make any sense, I mean even in space suits they don't degrade super quickly or anything because of space (https://pubs.acs.org/cen/science/89/8919sci1.html) . I think that it should cause us constant damage, and the astroid thing is okay only if we have some way of knwoing before hand, pawns die quick enough as is.

Idea: In space, moons (our very own is an example) tend to not have enough material to create a large enough atmosphere to protect themselves from even the tiniest of space debris. This is why our moon has giant craters everywhere that are also unable to be removed or eroded without wind (Which atmospheres provide regardless of composition). You should have constant weather on the moon climate be "Metorite" which means if you are outside, you take tiny amounts of damage from space fragments peppering you, and occasionally (more often than not) a larger rock will hit somewhere nearby, leaving behind useful resources and or a few dead people.

@Official| The White Hatted Gamer It spawns naturally when you start a new game. Zoom out all the way and start panning across the planet and it should show up. If not, comment again and I'll look into it.

@Dr@g0n hope you like it :) i was playing w the idea of adding a meteor showers event but with the B18 update bringing a meteorite update I decided against it. So nah, no events. Just a moon or two (or more) to take up some of that empty space.
