Guys can you discuss somewhere else ._.
SPARKYWOLF123 1 Dec, 2017 @ 12:28pm
Except it does. The phrasing means that you classified them as two different entities while giving the title of "ancient greek soldier" to the Athenians.
overworked melancholy 1 Dec, 2017 @ 12:16pm
"looks different than an ancient greek soldier" doesn't really say "they are nothing like ancient greek soldiers"
SPARKYWOLF123 1 Dec, 2017 @ 12:15pm
"A spartan looks different than an ancient greek soldier." You did not say they looked different from any other ancient Greek soldier, you said they were different from ancient greek soldiers.

what the hell is going on here? xD Are you discussing about history under a star wars playermodel? :D

Firstly, I said they are not like any other Greek soldoer, they looked nothing like Athenians or any other Military. I never said they weren't Greek, but they were truelly theirnown indepentend country as it is, for them to attack Athens wouldn't make sense. Spartans made a deal with Persians to get boats, and then they invaded Athens through the port when the soldiers decided to leave from guarding it, and they destroyed the ships that were in Athens, and slowly they rotted. (People in Athens)
SPARKYWOLF123 1 Dec, 2017 @ 1:50am
Thats why when the Macedonians invaded the Spartans took the hit at Thermopole, because they had the strongest infantry, the Athenians were spending the time the Spartans were giving them to evacuate and ready their navy, for the next phase of their defence.
SPARKYWOLF123 1 Dec, 2017 @ 1:34am
Also real quick, a military is made up of segments, of branches. Spartans had a fantastic infantry, Athenians had a suberb naval presence, along with some ranged soldiers. Mainly because Athens was on a port. They were right by the ocean. Sparta was on a river. It does not make much sense to have an overbearing navy when you only have dry land and a river.
SPARKYWOLF123 1 Dec, 2017 @ 1:24am
You are acting as if "Greek" was an army. No. You had Athenians, you had Spartans, you had your Corinthians, so on so forth. They were all Greek. They all had militaries, ergo they all had soldiers. Saying that oh all greek soldiers looked like this citys army is a bit of a mental conundrum to attempt to wrap your head around. Making the argument to say Spartans are not Greek is like saying Floridians are not American, yeah they are rough around the edges and a bit of idiots but they are still counted.

Jim is my name in English as foreigners cannot pronounce it and it simply doesn't sound right.
Spartans are Greek, but they didn't look nothing like the soldiers in Athens. They are not "literally the same thing", Spartans didn't have boats until they made a deal, then they started training with them. Spartans didn't have archers, they only fought in brute force, and would circle around their enemies and then trap them, great example, the battle of Thermopile with the well known 300 Spartans.

Spartans are nothing like any other Greek soldier, get that in your head.
SPARKYWOLF123 30 Nov, 2017 @ 2:37pm
"Jim" eh. Nice conversing with you Jim.
SPARKYWOLF123 30 Nov, 2017 @ 2:37pm
You said they looked different, when they were litterally the same thing. Just a subsection. And the entire I'm from greece bit? I do not believe that for a second. Took a quick jaunt to your profile. I call bullshit. Anyhow, yeah, Spartans are Greek. Woo yeah history....
overworked melancholy 29 Nov, 2017 @ 1:34pm
Woah you don't say. I am from Greece, why do you think I said all that?
SPARKYWOLF123 29 Nov, 2017 @ 11:55am
Greece was made up of city states, two of which were, the Athenians, who lived in Athens, and the Spartans, who lived in Sparta. Athens was a place of thought and learning, Sparts was like "pshh fuck that those Athenians are nerds" and dedicated their time to throwing the weak babies off cliffs and training themselves for battle.
overworked melancholy 29 Nov, 2017 @ 8:59am
A spartan looks different than an ancient greek soldier.
