Author has retired from SE modding and this mod is so old he didn't add that note to the top. I don't expect the critical error to be fixed.

THANK YOUI!!! I just realized the full potential of the voxel removal tool on the Concrete Tool for building roads. So, I need to survey the routes to calculate the correct slope. Going to be super important for railroads, too, if I'm going for hyperrealism (which I am.) Space? I have way too much engineering to do here "dirtside." Who has time to go to space? :-)

For the past couple of days, this mod has been throwing critical errors. this happens with other mods included, or in an empty world where only this mod is included.

why gps system is so buggy and heavy? every gps mods seem to have problem alteast for me, this crash my client randomly on use, not always, TEI version, loaded once, crashed once mid-game, and then CDT on startup; EZGPS seems more stable, it doesnt crash but from time to time after using chat commands the GPS tab in control panel glitch out, i cant edit/rename waypoints but i can still add and remove its; saving/reloading temporary fixes it

I am getting critical error messages with this mod installed. I have found that it also affects Aqd's QoL packs causing them to also have critical errors. The only way to stop this is to remove all mods that are showing as having an error. I don't understand coding so can't suggest any other way to fix it but wanted to share that I am having problems

Even the distance in description appears to only work sometimes, at least in MP.

@Sworddog, it can't simply do that because the description would constantly grow, as it'd just append the new distance to the existing description, which includes the previous distance.
Volnick 25 Mar, 2022 @ 4:42am
This mod worked perfectly before the last SE update. For finding the nearest ore, you need to follow the ore abbreviation with a comma, like /Nearest Fe,
Vrayl 13 Nov, 2021 @ 7:07am
This isn't working. The only thing it does is add the distance to the descriptions, but using Nearest or DisplayGPSWithin does nothing. All GPS markers stay off. So just FYI, this is only partially working.
akira 25 Sep, 2021 @ 12:34pm
As @Sworddog said. Plus, can't you just extract the description and paste it back after concatenate the value?
Sworddog 28 Oct, 2020 @ 1:01pm
Just wondering, why does it need to overwrite the descriptions? Couldn't it just calculate the distances when the commands are used? That way, the descriptions could still be used, and you don't need to update them constantly.
[MM] Toasterific 13 Oct, 2020 @ 12:21am
so uhhh, when is DisplayGPSWithin feature getting patched?
alley_cat 30 Jul, 2020 @ 11:28am
Hello I don't understand, I names all my GPS in space Asteroid with the ore name Fe, Mg and nothing work. I tried /Nearest Mg, /Nearest Fe and got only one Pt gps point all the time the same. /DisplayGPSWithin 5000 didn't show anything (I have some waypoint closer). /HideAllGPS and /ShowAllGPS works well. did I made some mistake ?
Captain828 6 Jun, 2020 @ 6:12pm
In regards to "/Nearest", I misunderstood the formatting: looks like simple "Fe" etc. markers are not supported. So if I do "Fe," it works as intended. A bit annoying that you need to have an extra char after it to work.

"DisplayGPSWithin" is definitely broken though.

Also, all the commands are case-sensitive.
May want to mention that as it's not clear.
Captain828 6 Jun, 2020 @ 10:54am
Got some issues with /DisplayGPSWithin X and /Nearest Fe
- if I type "/DisplayGPSWithin 1000" (or any number really) it gives me the message "Activated All Signals Within 1000m Of Player" but nothing happens
- for /Nearest, it doesn't work at all for "Fe" despite having two "Fe" entries
- also for /Nearest, it incorrectly shows the nearest "Si" deposit, giving me a combined "Si, Mg, Ice" deposit at 318m despite there being one "Si" GPS at 284m

The hideAll and showAll commands work fine though.
No errors or warnings in my SE log or the mod load log for this.

Happy to contribute with a PR if there's a repo somewhere.

This mod reminds me of an undeveloped idea I had, which was a GPS helper that would calculate and create a marker at X meters from your location to where the camera is pointing.
RandomKetchup 2 May, 2020 @ 12:48am
Hi Meridius / Lucas just wondering if you could add the Hide/Show all commands for the seperate ores? so you can show& hide each ore individually?
Love the mod and love your other work!
kandrinchae 2 Apr, 2020 @ 12:18pm
Reinstalled SE completely, problem solved. Sorry for the inconvenience.
Cheers!
kandrinchae 1 Apr, 2020 @ 7:36pm
Hrmm. ok thank you. With the amount of time it takes to start SE after deleting the mod folder it sure seems like its downloading everything again, at least the active mods. I set up a test world and installed all the mods i subscribe to and it appeared to download them all again. annopyed...
Thanks again
cheers!

Hmm, guess my last message didnt send. Cool, Steam...

I tried loading the mod myself and it got no errors at all. There's supposed to be another way to force steam to do a redownload, but I'm unfamiliar with the procedure. Might be worth checking on the Keen Discord to see if someone there knows.
kandrinchae 1 Apr, 2020 @ 7:26pm
Deleting the mod folder forces SE to download the mods again, yes? Still getting critical errors of the same type for this and many other mods. I dont know what keen broke but i find it odd that i am getting so many corrupt downloads- unless steams mod library became corrupted somehow?
anyways, i dont think it's just corrupt downloads.
kandrinchae 1 Apr, 2020 @ 6:39pm
i've downloaded the mod multiple times.... deleted the mod folder to force a redownload as well..... odd
Meridius_IX / Lucas  [author] 1 Apr, 2020 @ 6:06pm
Yeah, that type of Critical message is a corrupted mod download. Looks like cyberhounds are also having a similar issue too.
kandrinchae 1 Apr, 2020 @ 5:05pm
best way to send you the report?
Meridius_IX / Lucas  [author] 29 Mar, 2020 @ 4:30pm
Critical errors are 99% corrupted mod downloads. Try unsubbing, restarting steam, resubbing. If the mod still gets errors after that, send me the error messages/game log
kandrinchae 29 Mar, 2020 @ 3:53pm
Currently having critical errors since frostbite update
Simpson3k 19 Mar, 2020 @ 4:54am
Thanks for the fast answer Merdius, sounds really like the mod i always wanted to find the closest ore deposit in my list :)
Meridius_IX / Lucas  [author] 19 Mar, 2020 @ 4:50am
Usually no news is good news when it comes to mods. I haven't heard of issues
Simpson3k 19 Mar, 2020 @ 4:48am
Is this mod still working with the current game version?
DragonHeart 16 Nov, 2019 @ 2:31pm
Would it be possible to make the /nearest command search for the nearest GPS whose name contains the given string, if it is not a valid ore code? that way it can be useful for modded ores or other things you might name similarly. also could you allow using the ore codes with only spaces in the GPS name, such as "Fe Ni Co", if that is possible?
[DKS] Killaim 2 Oct, 2019 @ 1:03pm
awesome. I would love it if one day Folders for the GPS was a thing. so you could organize your waypoints into "ore, bases, crashes, etc, etc, etc"
lordaskym 17 Sep, 2019 @ 2:38am
is this up to date???
BlueMageS 25 Jul, 2019 @ 11:14am
I love this! However, I'm having difficulty getting "/DisplayGPSWithin" to work. The command says it has worked, but it won't turn on any coords at any distance. Help?
Fat7i Bonané 19 Jul, 2019 @ 3:36am
Great mod, thanks
lowell 22 Feb, 2019 @ 11:10am
Nice enhancement to the GPS system and very helpful. Can you allow the ore symbol to be followed by a space or at the end of the name? For example, 'A4000 - U Ni Fe' doesn't work and 'A4000 - U, Ni, Fe' works for uranium and nickel but not iron.
Arjan S 8 Nov, 2018 @ 1:29am
This is such a huge improvement on the GPS system for mining locations
Cannot understand basic vanilla doesn't contain the distance values anywhere
Rasip 15 Sep, 2018 @ 5:56pm
I just want to say thank you. This makes figuring out which asteroid is the closest source of whatever i'm looking for much easier.
Chief11 3 Jun, 2018 @ 1:38am
Major props Meridius! I cannot thank you enough for allowing us to enjoy your scripting prowess! :steamhappy:
Hanadon 15 Mar, 2018 @ 1:38pm
Would you know someone that can make a gps landing script? I can use one....
Meridius_IX / Lucas  [author] 15 Feb, 2018 @ 12:41pm
@Nekuroi - Thanks for the heads up. The fix should be live now.
Nekuroi 12 Feb, 2018 @ 9:27pm
Works fine in SP, but it doesnt work on dedicated+client. Both client and servers crashes to desktop.

I see!
Thank you very much for this info.
Seems to be a very very useful script. Can't wait to test this out!
Meridius_IX / Lucas  [author] 23 Jan, 2018 @ 6:54am
@Belfontan - There's no black/white lists for which ones get targeted, however it's not renaming the GPS itself, only the description field (which is only visible from the GPS menu)
Belfontan 23 Jan, 2018 @ 5:49am
Looks very interesting...
But what happens with GPS markers which represent f.e. my homebase? Is there some sort of blacklist/whitelist or what can I do to prevent changing its name?
Splitsie 11 Dec, 2017 @ 6:12am
Damnit you just keep producing absolute gold Meridius! Love it :)
