This mod causes a CTD (crash to desktop) to launch the game.

They work right now, but weigh almost 1000kg for the small grid 1x1x1 gyroscope.

There is an alternative and much more popular "Encased Gyroscopes" mod, but it is similarly outdated and extremely off-spec

An alternative solution to both is the Gyroscope package 250%/500% etc mod, which also attaches on all sides, but does not have a cubic framed model. You will just have to use your imagination.

The mod is old, but so is the game.
Should play nice with most other mods since it only adds new block ,variants and groups.
I have not used it my self, but I use a personal modded version with plenty of other mods including Tiered Tech Blocks that touches a lot of blocks and variant groups.

Do these Still work? 2016 a long time ago. no edited or updates. aug 2019 for last author message... and its about someone stealing his work.. -- Love this.. found an old BP with this as requirement, but few old mods needed just woundered if this was working for others. - Works on own but seems to not play nice with other mods. IDK why.
No crashes just lockup and unloads the world.

The small grid 1x1x1 is almost 50% heavier than vanilla Gyros. Is that intended? It really drags up the weight of small ships.

Yeah the power consumption is constant... Would be more realistic if it consumed power based on the applied rotational torque with a set efficiency. Anyhow good luck!

@Mike Loeven I have already made the adjustments and it works. On top of that, I have made some force and power requirements adjustments to make the larger gryo feel like an upgrade by boosting the force torque by 25% (27 1x1 gyros that fit into the space of 1 3x3) and reducing the power demand by 25% on the 3x3 gyro (again 27 1x1 gyros that fit into the space of 1 3x3). There is a 2 watt power increase on the small grid 3x3 gyro because for whatever reason, Keen didn't follow a power scale ratio (somebody skipped electrical engineering at school). Right now I'm just waiting for Sandflakes permission to republish.

@Sandflakes I was hoping to get your permission to modify your Encased Gyros and republish it. I want to increased their Neuton Force output so that a 3x3 gyro is not just as powerful as it's 1x1 counter part multiplied 27 times, but to have the larger gyro actually feel and respond like an upgrade instead of just having the 27 1x1 gyros required to fill the same space that a 3x3 gyro takes up. And I would like to move the glass component above the computer component so that glass is not a required component for the gyro to work. Thanks.

Just wanted to point out a bit of a problem with the block build status. The Glass is not a Functional component but rather a structural component however because its listed below the computers it prevent's their installation and the block cannot be made functional without it I would suggest that the glass be moved to be above the computers and the functional mark be adjusted so that the glass is no longer required for the block to work

I really like these gyros; looks like there's real effort put into the model and it makes sense that a gyro would not be made with such a flawed design as to have only one mountable surface. However I think I either discovered a conflict or Keen has changed something that affects gyros. I installed a large ss gyro on my ship and lost flight control in some of the directions and the ship wouldn't stop rolling to Starboard. As soon as I stopped piloting, removed the gyro from my ship, and and stopped all grids, via admin controls, the ship was stationary. I removed the mod from my world and installed vanilla gyros and everything worked normally. The possible conflict might be with Nilat's Piston mod pack. Will do a test of the mods later when I have time.

Once (or twice) my gyros detached, bounced and blown a hole in the middle of my small grid ship, hope this is a better alternative!!

@Sandflakes, I have a Hulk of a Ship, (Small Block). Currently it needs around 240 gyros to allow it to move and react in a manner that is pleasing, Any chance you could make this same mod, but up the Gyro streangh.- PS: I would be happy to make the edit my self, but wont publish it without permissions :) - Would be shared only with Friends. :)
Tiered Gyros would be good, but with your models :D

Have to say, been using for a bit, just found out keen made a mod making gyros upradeable, any shot this works with that(or an updated version don't know how close they are to being the same)

The devs should seriously add this to the base game! Its so stupid that the stock gyros only have one attachment point, and that they only come in one size!

Good news! I just got home and have corrected the issue with the power being very high. Thank you FayDruh for testing it out and reporting it!

I also did some slight adjustments to the components so that the masses are a bit more realistic and the amount of bulletproof glass needed is reduced.

@FayDruh Yeah, I am sorry for this. Making a block does not really include programmering at all. It mostly a XML file (.sbc) that contains properties. I must have mixed the 3x3 and 1x1 while editing. Can not test it right now but I will as soon as possible. Thank you alot for digging in this issue. I appreciate it.

@Sandflakes I was assuming this was intentional, I'm glad to hear it wasn't.

-shorted for character limit-

If you make two ships, one with yours and one with vanilla, yours turns way harder.

I then started messing with putting both gyros on the same ship and setting yours and the vanilla to opposite override directions and found that after adding 25.55 vanilla gyros (one gyro was set to 55% strength) they were able to counter a single one of yours.

I then had the idea that maybe your gyro wasn't taking into account the weight of the ship so I made a two small ships that weighted about 56000kg each and added your gyro to one and 25 to the other and they felt the same as eachother. So I don't think your gyro is ignoring weight.

Perhaps by copying the code from the vanilla one it's running your code then seeing its a gyro and running the code again and messing up the math. While I do know some programming I don't know anything about modding in SE so idk lol.

@GopeCcope Thank you! The triangle count on these are very low as they are. At 5,10 and 50 there will be Low Level of Detail models that will greatly reduce the triangle count without you seeing it.

@FayDruh I need to check this when i get home. The stats are copied from the regular gyroscopes and should be the same. The only difference should be between 1x1 and 3x3 where the 3x3 is a little more than 27 times as powerful because 27 gyros would fit in a 3x3x3 volume.

I just did some testing and the 1x1 small gyro from this mod set to 3% strength is as strong as the vanilla one set to 93%. I doubt its 31 times as powerful.

I don't see why you increased it power over the vanilla one. Doing this is like making a colored thrusters mod that also happen to use 1/4 the power. The entire reason you would use the mod is to add variation or make a small change, but then you get a op balance change.

It wouldn't feel fair using this in survival, so I'm unsubbing for now, sorry.

I would recommend making a separate mod, either making one with vanilla strength or changing this one to have vanilla strength and a separate mod for your rebalacing, assuming this was intentional.

I would like to say I appreciate that you made this mod, I simply want it to be fair. :p2cube:

Great work Sandflakes! Something else I'd love to see is a gyro that is enclosed so that it looks like a light armor block (or heavy), and has the low triangle count that goes with that - but the 3x3 gyro you have helps a lot with that already.

this. so much of this, and so much, why Keen couldn't you have gyros with multiple mount points when we have drone gyros that have more than one already?

@Ulfsark It is actually a bit over 27x as powerful as the small one. 3^3 = 27. Using one 3x3 will reduce the strain on the server and client alot compared to 27 regular gyros.

You know what, after actually seeing this, and that the 3x version is 9x in strength, and the regular is LIGHTER than the vanilla.... i'd say its balanced already.

@Sandflakes: Thanks for the reply! These look great in game. I'll have a screen shot soonish of a build I'm working on using them. I don't care for those style of mods either, but I can find uses sometimes. I personally like the tiered mods that add odd components, like the tiered tools that have the upgrade chips you need for them and the cores as additional components to build them.

I've actually been wanting to develop a vanilla + sort of pack with actual progression, additional vanilla-like blocks like deco stuff and weapons that fit the SE style, maybe a few additional "Spacey" ores and w/e. I can do a decent amount of the coding to a degree, but modeling is another matter so its stayed on the back burner and I haven't done much with the idea. hmu if you'd want to hear more about it.
