Canned Food

For a canned food recipe, I suggest using the nutritional value rather than the quantity of raw materials.
The Vanilla Plants Expanded mod contains Chickpeas. It has the lowest nutritional value, but the largest yield.

Update to B19 please. Thanks
Xsile  [author] 5 Oct, 2018 @ 6:47am
@Ranger what version of rimworld are you running? This mod has not been updated to b19 and that may cause the issues you are having. Another solution is maybe one of the mods you are using is enabling canned goods to be used for canning so disablling the checkmark for canned goods in the bill will solve that.

@MacEriu I currently have no plans to update this to b19, however if someone wants to they can its a simple matter of xml format updating and that is all that is needed to fix it.
Genet 4 Oct, 2018 @ 7:33pm
I've encountered an issue where my colonist finishes canning, takes it to the stockpile, then takes it back and cans it again, resulting in a situation where I'm losing 10 cans and 50 food. Any advice?
MacEriu 14 Sep, 2018 @ 8:57pm
B19?
kopmar 17 Jun, 2018 @ 1:03pm
You should make an entirely different type of canned meat then because that would be a great way to get rid of excess human meat.
Xsile  [author] 16 Jun, 2018 @ 10:47pm
@kapmar Because it would not keep the debuff associated with human meat so therefore it is just disabled. Though it isn't a eligant solution it is the only one i can think of aside from making another item just for canned human meat.
kopmar 16 Jun, 2018 @ 4:57pm
Is there any reason that you can't put human meat into the canned meat?
Xsile  [author] 23 Mar, 2018 @ 9:16am
@Swarx the can goods count as one aweful meal, unless its canned fruit which gives a postive mood buff. I don't recommend using the canned goods as a replacement for food just to use to preserve your meats veggies and fruits for long periods of time or for emergencies.
Quilboar 23 Mar, 2018 @ 9:06am
so, does one can count as a meal, or do colonists generally eat multiple cans in one sitting?
Xsile  [author] 14 Mar, 2018 @ 11:14pm
I've considered making canned meals before, however with the addition of survival meals im not sure it would really be any better then just making a survival meal. I might add this if its requested enough and it would be simple to add. Also for the purposes of automated cooking it should work with anything modded perfectly fine.
SirVivel 14 Mar, 2018 @ 2:11pm
I'm using an automation mod that lets machines cook for me. Can I just "feed" cans to that thing instead for raw ingredians and it works just the same? Another question, can you make canned MEALS, like creating a lavish meal and THEN put it in a can? That would be so nice.
Dr. Ben Carson 1 Mar, 2018 @ 12:50am
@Xsile ok great thank you!
Xsile  [author] 28 Feb, 2018 @ 6:33am
@Dr. Ben Carson You make empty cans with the smithy and you make canned goods at a stove where you would make meals.
Dr. Ben Carson 27 Feb, 2018 @ 11:17pm
For some reason I can't find the canning machine. its not in the production tab. even after I research it I can not find this worktable.
Xsile  [author] 12 Feb, 2018 @ 6:41pm
The canned goods give debufs as there just the canned fruits, vegetables or meats and are not meals. Currently there are no canned meals in this mod but i may add that in the future but felt with the addition of survival meal it wasn't needed. The current use for the mod is to canned your meats fruits or vegetables and store them for times when you may need them. Canned goods don't expire and deteriorate very slowly if left outside. Canned goods can be used for anything that it could have been used for before hand. So 1 can of veggies and 1 can of meat can make a simple meal.
Vakaria 12 Feb, 2018 @ 6:30pm
This sounds great. But, is there any way to remove the penalty for eating from the can? Maybe a toggle? Also, can you cook the cans? Like, if they take it traveling, build a campfire, can they cook the food in the can to remove the debuff, if the toggle isn't possible?

Thank you for the update Xsile. I hope the author do not mind. :steamhappy:
KrysisMode 28 Dec, 2017 @ 6:05am
Sub'd just beacuse now that I think about it why the HELL isn't this already a vanilla feature? Jarring and canning our foodstuffs is one of the most common things humans do with their stuff.

Plus it'll save food during a solar eclipse/flare. God the number of times I've lost all my damn meat to those events alone..
Xsile  [author] 28 Dec, 2017 @ 12:00am
@Kyron currently they can be used to make meals, its a good way to store goods for long periods of times for harder times yes. Currently consuming the can in anyways does not return a can so 1 steel currently makes 5 cans. At the point i get empty cans retured after goods being used it will return to 1 steel is 1 can. Currently I am still looking into trying to make cans be returned but it requires making a custom class which I have very limited skill in c# so it could take me awhile but I am looking into it (:
Kyron 27 Dec, 2017 @ 2:28pm
This seems like an amazing mod to make rations for traveling caravans or stockpile some food for hardtimes.
I'd suggest letting cans be used as food for cooking (a source of meat or vegetables) so people can still cook with it if they have a stove or similar available.

Of course, the "empty cans after being used" is kinda mandatory here, otherwise people are eating steel right out of your deposits everytime they take a bite...:steammocking:

i wonder if you put a simple meals in cans doses it saw they didn't eat raw food if the simple worn't rooting

Thank for you!
BeanSlinger419 21 Dec, 2017 @ 5:01am
even though theres a mod that "Recycles" as in dismantles the thing or part into its materials it used to make it or things that cant be crafted like say a gun it just gets dismantled into metal
BeanSlinger419 21 Dec, 2017 @ 4:58am
and this is the first mod i have ever seen that allows you to recycle your damn modded shit xd
Xsile  [author] 20 Dec, 2017 @ 1:52pm
@Miamil-lurricane you can smelt them back down into ore yes.
MiamiHurricane 20 Dec, 2017 @ 12:52pm
can you recycle the cans?
Xsile  [author] 19 Dec, 2017 @ 10:32am
@WilliamGreywind Cans already make considerably faster then canning. Also im in the processes of trying to make canned goods give empty cans back when used. Though that still isn't something neccesarliy bad to add so I will probably still add it.
WMG 19 Dec, 2017 @ 12:55am
Alright then, I see your point. Still, is there any possibility of having cans be made at a larger rate at least? Like a bulk option of 50 cans would be nice since we have a x10 bulk option for making canned foods. Otherwise I feel like can making bottle necks how quickly you can make canned foods when using the bulk recipe.
Xsile  [author] 19 Dec, 2017 @ 12:52am
@WilliamGreywin i could but its would be unnecessary it did it for the same reasont he original mod author did. Simply put the machining table has way to many crafting option already in its list, and the smithing table is perfectly able to make cans and makes it much easier to see and add. It's nothing major buts simplifies things. If it was requested enough i could add it but i don't think its a neccesary change.
WMG 19 Dec, 2017 @ 12:41am
Hey, tried this mod and I am quite liking it a lot, though I was wondering, is there any possibility of adding the ability to make cans in the machining table as well? And perhaps also adding a bulk recipe to the machining table too? It feels odd to be able to make cans from a smithing table but not a machining table.

Implemented feedback, try it ingame.
sigmaMGE 2.0 17 Dec, 2017 @ 12:11pm
well, well)
Xsile  [author] 17 Dec, 2017 @ 12:03pm
@Denchick457 A canned good is 5 raw ingredients at .05 nurtrition so a canned good at .25 is the equivelant to that. I don't intend to increase the amount of igredients per can as to not waste material when making meals. A fine meal takes .25 raw meat and vegetables so a can of each material, If i was to increase that each time you made a fine meal it would waste material thus i will not be changing that value.
sigmaMGE 2.0 17 Dec, 2017 @ 12:01pm
that's what I meant)
sigmaMGE 2.0 17 Dec, 2017 @ 12:00pm
to increase the number of food intended for canning, and then increase their nutritional value
Xsile  [author] 17 Dec, 2017 @ 11:32am
@Denchik I can add a x10 option but far as nutrition I don't think ill be increasing it. Also you are simply canning them not making a meal so the debuf will remain.

@Carly 2000 you have a point i will look into changing that in the next update. Thanks for the feedback.
Glamorpuss 17 Dec, 2017 @ 11:10am
The debuff for eating canned meat should be "ate terrible meal" instead of ""ate raw food". Canned food is actually cooked (otherwise it would spoil), so I don't think it should have the same penalty as completly raw food in the game.
sigmaMGE 2.0 17 Dec, 2017 @ 4:28am
and remove debuff with mood, after eating canned food
sigmaMGE 2.0 17 Dec, 2017 @ 4:09am
and make canned food more nutrition...
sigmaMGE 2.0 17 Dec, 2017 @ 4:06am
need to add an option to cook at once for 10 cans....
Xsile  [author] 15 Dec, 2017 @ 9:37pm
All idea are good idea no harm in asking for something (:
Redeye 15 Dec, 2017 @ 9:27pm
no worries. just an idea, I was thinking a more desirable pemmican replacement with higher joy/nutrient.
Xsile  [author] 15 Dec, 2017 @ 7:22pm
@Issah that would almost be redunt as some crops in the game last a year and half unfrozen already. If it was asked for enough i could make them expire after a period of time though.
Redeye 15 Dec, 2017 @ 7:12pm
anyway to make the canned food shelf life 2 years as it is in real life? It would basically be cheaper pemmican
