YAY
Omnificent Aspiration 16 Sep, 2022 @ 1:08am
Finally made some walking mechs from a prefab set of legs I made. Everything else I was able to get to work on my own but the staying up right while walking including the angles of the legs and the motions to walk. I did it a bit differently for triggering the sequence but it wouldn't have been possible without finding out in the tutorial about the overridden gyros for the staying up right. Thank you for the tutorial.
Omnificent Aspiration 3 Sep, 2022 @ 11:11pm
The original idea was to take the big mech I already made at one point and get it to walk. But yeah Maybe I should jut make a new one from scratch some time. I will add it to my To Make List. And I will use the tutorial to help make it.

Hopefully it will be around as cool as the ones in the tutorial. Or fit in with my other work. Maybe I'll focus on the hips and legs then use that as a base point to make many tops. Or do you guys think much of the upper parts have to be made with the walking legs to get them functional?

tummygoo mate, try down sizing and planning over for the new size. (somethings are just better small)
Omnificent Aspiration 1 Sep, 2022 @ 9:34am
I gave up on making my mech walk. I think it's maybe too big. I just re-uploaded it as a flying mech only.

Anyone ever hear of a movie called Robot Jox, or Robot Wars? Or played armored Core? These got me to love mecha/mechs. I even used have dreams I owned a secret one.

Though it is in my nature to try to figure out thing on my own. I have a feeling I am going to need this after I try my best to make a walking mech.

I already made a flying one which is super easy of course. If any one looked now they would see I don't have much on my workshop. I pulled everything to improve and update them. In a week I should have them back up including hopefully a walking version of my mech which is really big comparatively to the screen shot ones here. I hope it will be half as good as these ones look.

My mech already includes a modular weapon system that requires a carryall to put the weapons in place in the field if you want to switch them. I'd like to see how others do a modular weapon system for their mech some time (After I upload mine).

Good to hear it
Dewahll 24 Aug, 2022 @ 2:38pm
This is excellent! I've been toying around trying to make a mech and I feel a lot more confident about it now.
BlackArmor  [author] 1 Aug, 2022 @ 4:23pm
Trying to accomplish such a video but it may take quite a while
ScotishgoneHigh 31 Jul, 2022 @ 10:03pm
Do you have any videos that sort of explain how to do Bipedal timers as I am using your world but don't 100% understand it. I am going to keep working on it. But it would help if their is a video you could recommend that might explain it and show how its suppose to be set up.
BlackArmor  [author] 29 Jun, 2022 @ 4:48pm
For the leg setup you've got you should make the upper leg the part that moves twice (red). Put all the upper leg parts at the same angle (the lower one) and have them raise during the step then come back down. The lower part of the legs should be the leg movement group and only move once. It will be similar to the far right mech in picture 3 on this page

Hello, I am a bit stumped on how this may have happened to my mech : https://gyazo.com/9a17c05e47b3697700d89f70d4d48901

Still working on tweaking it, but I absolutely cant figure out what I can do for the right side sequence. The ankles on the FR and BL go completely inverted to how I want the FL and BR to be, and I cant figure out a way to possible invert it. Im a bit of a newbie when it comes to building in general, but yeah, any ideas?
BlackArmor  [author] 4 Jun, 2022 @ 1:44pm
Perfect, this is just the kind of thing I was hoping to hear
That Bro Dad 4 Jun, 2022 @ 9:26am
I have to say this is one of the coolest things I've ever seen in this game. Really mind blowing. I now understand how mechs work on a basic level. I feel like you've unlocked a whole new genre for me
BlackArmor  [author] 29 Apr, 2022 @ 10:19am
Usually you can reverse a few hinges/rotors to get the legs into a neutral position. Once you know which ones you need to move you can group them or put them in a timer and reverse all at once.

It's easier to just stop the legs where they are and have them in a frozen walking position which is what I used to do, but having the neutral stance looks better and I like to do that now.

I would like to explain it in more detail in a video when I get around to it.
ArcanePoro 27 Apr, 2022 @ 6:24pm
I noticed that with many of your walkers you have a "neutral" stance where the legs go back to just standing straight and in line with each other after deactivating walk mode. How do you do that?
BlackArmor  [author] 25 Apr, 2022 @ 9:53am
It won't be in your load game list you'll have to go to new game and load it from the workshop worlds
ninjawizard 17 Apr, 2022 @ 5:43pm
i sub to it and it wont show on my load game list.. i got exp enabled and i already use scripts, im i missing something :
PaperFox27 11 Apr, 2022 @ 10:35pm
I did build a mech using your guide and the only problems are that it is slower than a slug, and no matter what i do the override gyroscope wont work properly or it is that i am bad at building mechs
BlackArmor  [author] 3 Apr, 2022 @ 4:30pm
Weight is definitely a factor in that. Maybe try wheel suspension
Azathoth 23 Mar, 2022 @ 10:10pm
One thing though, I cant seem to not have my mechs feet explode under him on terrain. even with a solid sole of wheels the feet just pop. Could weight be a factor in that?
Azathoth 21 Mar, 2022 @ 10:02pm
Also having a whole world save to go into and see everything in action, perfection.
Azathoth 21 Mar, 2022 @ 10:02pm
Thank you so much. I've tried for so long to make working mechs and could never figure leg movement out. You're a Saint sir.
William Slayer 10 Mar, 2022 @ 2:18pm
hey how do i add piston suports
Blake 2 Mar, 2022 @ 10:09am
i can't see it on f10
BoltAshera 30 Oct, 2021 @ 2:59am
ah, alright. thanks, guess i'm just not very good at making mechs then. even with your world's tips, i still can't get one built that works properly, ill keep trying though. and i'll definitely post the finished prototype here, once i can get it moving.
BlackArmor  [author] 29 Oct, 2021 @ 11:37am
Hinges are set up the same, just weaker and more limited than rotors
BoltAshera 25 Oct, 2021 @ 7:32pm
Hey Black Armor, you wouldn't happen to have an update to this world with hinges instead of rotors? I'm trying to build a walker using hinges on the legs, but I'm not able to figure out how to set them up quite yet. Been working on it for the last hour, fiddling with the settings of the hinges
EvilNecroid 31 Aug, 2021 @ 6:53pm
i tried to make a spider looking thing kinda like urs but the feet just keep slipping and sliding everywhere and not gripping to the ground at all?
BlackArmor  [author] 19 May, 2021 @ 6:17am
Looks good man happy to hear that
Fyrstorm-the-Artist 18 May, 2021 @ 10:48pm
Thanks to this, I was able to make my first functional walker!
https://steamhost.cn/steamcommunity_com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=2491451695

It's ludicrously slow, very barebones, and could definitely see improvements, but it works! Definitely looking forward to making more mechs in the future!
droofty boi 1 May, 2021 @ 7:53pm
the ending tho, I learned how to build a "somewhat" build of a mech, 10/10 would reccoment (btw IK my commect is cringe)
BlackArmor  [author] 27 Mar, 2021 @ 2:12pm
Better would be to use 2 rotors for more torque
Leo_Draconus 27 Mar, 2021 @ 11:51am
Putting a piston between joints provides a lot of support, but what if you only need a little boost in support and don't to see pistons between your joints. Would putting hinges in parallel work?
BlackArmor  [author] 3 Mar, 2021 @ 8:56am
put a gyro on override
Myamsar from the game Patapon 3 3 Mar, 2021 @ 1:42am
Question: How do I make a lightweight bipedal mech not fall over when walking without adding an obscene amount of gyroscopes?
BlackArmor  [author] 24 Feb, 2021 @ 7:03pm
My methods remain the same
The Erubian Warlord 24 Feb, 2021 @ 7:04am
will you ever make and updated version of this world?
Fine Gentleman 31 Jan, 2021 @ 8:26am
thanks man
BlackArmor  [author] 30 Jan, 2021 @ 5:42pm
Check out the 3rd video, but when it says leave displacement at 4.5cm, make it 0cm
Fine Gentleman 30 Jan, 2021 @ 4:52pm
how do I connect a piston to another rotor on the same grid like one of those mechs?
BlackArmor  [author] 3 Dec, 2020 @ 7:05am
Added to the description
Creeased 2 Dec, 2020 @ 6:14am
Where do i get that script?
Mandrix 25 Oct, 2020 @ 12:27pm
Yeah I got backspace earlier trying random keys and it worked thx.
BlackArmor  [author] 25 Oct, 2020 @ 11:55am
Backspace should still work, or try space master and teleport there
Mandrix 25 Oct, 2020 @ 5:56am
never mind rolling my head on the keyboard I figured out.

great tutorial btw really helpful.
Mandrix 25 Oct, 2020 @ 3:33am
Hi, new player here.

I'm sure i'm doing something wrong but I can't reach the step of the tutorial on the planet.
I tried to kill myself by opening the elmet but it doesn't work unless i'm in survival mode but once in survival the screens go offline.
What should I do?
BlackArmor  [author] 10 Sep, 2020 @ 9:19am
They simplify things but are still very similar to rotors
Mythos 10 Sep, 2020 @ 7:59am
@BlackArmor have hinges changed your approach to building mechs?
