also, on a serious note, if this is not a Ringworld, nor a Halo, it might be an Orbital!

It's been nearly a year now... Is the new ring out yet or is it abandonned?
useless  [author] 31 Aug, 2020 @ 5:44pm
The new ring will not use any mods or DLC in case anyone were wondering. Unless if I mess up and add a DLC texture to a block somewhere by accident.

I am also working on the 1.25km long ship from one of the screenshots. I've had to restart it many times because it keep breaking the game, which eventually killed most of my interest in SE. I've probably wasted 200 hours on this damned thing, no joke.

This summer I began working on an updated version. It will have updated textures, more details, slightly different biomes, and possibly a network of corridors and secret rooms hidden underground. I have an exceptionally bad record of not finishing things I start working on (I have almost a thousand hours in this game and barely anything on the workshop to show for it) so I can't promise anything, but feel free to yell at me in the comments if it's not out by the end of October.
RMazer 31 Aug, 2020 @ 11:52am
wow amazing also how did you place 1,000,000 blocks in your world without it crashing or becoming extremly laggy

I love this. I am really curious if anyone could help, especially the creator. I was hoping to export it so I could play with it in Blender (just for personal use because I love the concept) but the export process fails every time. Is there any way I could get someone to send me the exported files of this? Specifically the obj files .zip? Either way, cool work, creator, thanks!

The Halo Rings are a group of fictional megastructures and superweapons in the Halo science fiction franchise, consisting of ring-shaped worlds known as Halos and a control station called the Ark. They are referred to as "Installations" by their AI monitors, and were created by an ancient race known as the Forerunners. The series' alien antagonists, the Covenant, refer to the Halos as the "Sacred Rings", believing them to form part of a greater religious prophecy known as "The Great Journey". According to Halo's fiction, the Forerunners built the Halo Array to contain and study the Flood, an infectious alien parasite. The rings act together as a weapon of last resort; when fired, they kill any sentient life capable of falling prey to the Flood, starving the parasite of its food. The installations are at the crux of the plot progression for the Halo series.

@Sinner_D I did actually make a tunnel boring machine like ship a few years ago. That one however was really small. Only somewhere between 100 and 150 blocks long I think (250-375m). I never published it though.

Thank you, and good luck with your project too.

It will probably take a while before I finish any of my SE projects, because right now I have other things to do and other games to play.
Sinner_D 1 Mar, 2018 @ 2:14pm
Ironic, I recently had come up with an idea for a TBM machine aswell, although my concept I want it to be as functionally accurate as possible so I'm going to try using shock absorbsion mounted wheels mounted on pistons to keep the device stationary in the center of its boring hole. Still in concept phase though ;)

GL with yours :)
useless  [author] 1 Mar, 2018 @ 6:20am
@ Sinner_D The miner will look and function sorta like a tunnel boring machine.
It cannot fly in an atmosphere. In fact, it will probably be almost stationary due to its enormous weight and how few thrusters I can fit on it. I mean, its exterior will be covered in thrusters, but that won't do much due to the square cube law. And I can not do thruster stacking on the sides because that would take up far too much volume. I will be stacing the forward and reverse thrusters though.

LOL@overnight shipping deliveries. ConquestOnDemand... AmaZONEbeMine. Only two companies I know of that'll do caapital ships overnight ;)

this 1km miner atmo capable or no? Planning on designing a atmo capable mobile deep drilling miner, got a mod that makes mining a bit more challenging
useless  [author] 28 Feb, 2018 @ 11:23am
@ Sinner_D wtf could you possibly NOT need a 1km long cargo bay for? The question is not why, it is why not.

Maybe you could use it to transport ring habitat sections, giant space stations, wrecks from a giant space battle, or maybe some warlord ordered overnight shipping of 20 capital ships and your shipping company only have one employee.

I'm pretty sure if it were oxygen sealed, pressurising and depressurising it would be able to fry a supercomputer. And I would have to invent some clever mechanism with merge blocks, pistons and rotors to make it work. (I'm pretty sure I could make that work, actually.)

If you want something a bit more practical: I've also been working on a 1km+ long mining ship with an on-board ship printer. Theoretically it could make giant war fleets in survival. It could even make something like the giant ship I rammed into the ring at one of the pictures if I decide to make the printer large enough.
Sinner_D 28 Feb, 2018 @ 9:56am
wtf could you possibly need a 1km long cargobay for...oxygen sealed or just structural?

awe thats disappointing, your last made me want to go kidnap some wolves...lol ;)
useless  [author] 28 Feb, 2018 @ 5:54am
@ Sinner_D: I have actually been working on a freighter ship with a 1km long cargo bay. Standing inside it will truly make you feel tiny.
Spawning wildlife on the ring would be awesome, but I don't think they can exist anywhere outside planets. I think Laststandgamers on youtube tried to bring some sabiroids to space once, and they just despawned when they reached a certain altitude.
Planewalker 27 Feb, 2018 @ 7:26pm
"Ringworld Engineers" (book #2) adresses the "impossible" issues.

I just find it awesome that Larry Niven has sparked so much creativity through his "invention".

Both are good books btw. =D

Also, nice mod! :D
Sinner_D 27 Feb, 2018 @ 6:37pm
Just seen the new screenshot... adding the redship in really gives a sense of scale all can quickily visualise. Now gotta make an airstrip cargohold...now that would be impressive. ;)

A halo ring is quite unspecific as to it requirements(aside from the obvious), could be argued simply that this is outside the halo universe and thusly not a halo ring. but a ringworld as described by the books author, does have distiguishing characteristics for which are both impossible, and if so, likely take you a lifetime to construct ingame, so again not that.

Think ring habitat was a good way to go ;) do you know if its possible to spawn SE creatures on its surface?
useless  [author] 27 Feb, 2018 @ 6:18pm
I don't really know for sure what a halo ring is, besides a ring-shaped planet-like megastructure. I've never played any of the games in the halo series.
This was mainly inspired by the ringworld, which I first learned of from stellaris. I obviously couldn't make one large enough to be classified as an actual ringworld, so its more of a ring-shaped habitat station; a space station built to serve as land to build houses on or as a wildlife preserve. So in conclusion: technically it is neither a ringworld nor a halo ring, but it can be either of them if you want it to.

The reason I haven't made this clear until now is because I found the arguing in the comments to be way too entertaining.
Planewalker 21 Feb, 2018 @ 9:31pm
Larry Niven approves. =D
(original author of the book "Ringworld", fhimc).

Kudos

i am here to get you life
Sinner_D 14 Feb, 2018 @ 4:05pm
@ ncaa|Seawolf: Hate to point out that the ring world schematic requires a centrally located Sun, and roughly 100 million times larger scale diameter. So technically this is a Halo ring or other. Unless you crash a Giant capital ship into it, then it becomes a high Pacman.

Looks cool on the surface either way. I'd maybe touch up the perimeter edges of the ring, maybe give it some character, would definitely boost its appearance at range.

@ OP: 40hrs? construction time? that not bad if it was done by hand not printed ;)
P.S. the airtight enclosure alone on that scale would probably crash any system...yeah woulda been way too ambitious for SE current. Nice job though

AWESOME! testing nooow!

A ringworld is a typical fictional and sci-fi creation that apperas a lot in sci-fi movies, novels and romans. As well as being a fictional creation, the possibility to make a ringword is quite likely in the future, as well as a rotating habitat, my personal favorite.

So simply said, the ringword is NOT created by the creators of the Halo games, even though they're hella cool in game.
ncaa|Seawolf 17 Jan, 2018 @ 10:06pm
This is not a halo, this is a ringworld.
Also, Preview Text, your name and profile picture remind me of a edgy middleschooler.
Please shut your mouth and go back to CoD, thank you.
