Not that I know of, but it is an interesting idea to have an in-game key. You could always just write them out on a notepad?
The ones I know of (default colours pulled from configs);
- Green = free action
- Blue = 1AP
- Teal = 1AP last action/turn ending
- Yellow = 2AP
- Orange = 2AP+
- YellowOrange = 2AP last action/turn ending
- Orange = 2AP turn ending
- Grey = N/A
- Red = HPCost (BloodMagics)
- Purple = Free Psionic (Clarity)
- White = Hack Protected (Failsafe)

~ Hope that helps ;)

Is there a version of this (either a fork, modception, or just another mod that does a similar job) that just adds a bit of text or something when the ability is selected/hovered over instead? It's minor but as someone who sorta just spontaneously comes back to playing xcom every now and again I can never remember the color codes reliably. It's minor sure, and this mod is certainly still better than nothing, but a lotta times I've just wanted the game to tell me "this will use X AP" or "this requires 2 AP and ends your turn" or "this is a free action" rather than needing to remember/decipher the ability colors.

Skill issue? Sure, but we're all here mod because we can't remember the costs of abilities in the first place so back atcha.

Plus, I dunno the fact that The Commander is using a HUD designed by Fisher Price where he needs to remember all of his colors so his units don't die horrifically and become a 5 foot tall murder Taranchula's nursery just sits wrong to me. :conwayshrug:

Oh I forgot about that mod. I have used it in the past and unsubbed quite a while ago to trouble shoot performance issues. I'll give it a try again. Thanks!

@PatientLandBeaver
Not that I've noticed, no. Have you installed "Tactical HUD Lag Fixes"?
PatientLandBeaver 28 Aug, 2024 @ 1:07pm
Anyone else getting random lag spikes while using this mod?
Haite 4 Jul, 2024 @ 11:29am
I feel this is the most essential mod ever. So much nicer to know why a skill is turning ending at glance

I'm not sure if it's possible to be fixed but there's a bug when using this with Skillful Skirmishing. If your Skirmisher has Full Throttle and kills an enemy, your abilities will still show up as blue instead of light blue indicating you will still have another action afterwards, which isn't true.

@Dragon32
The Alternative Mod Launcher worked, thank you
RustyDios 3 Apr, 2024 @ 1:13pm
Mod works fine for myself, streamers, youtubers and about 145,000 other people
100% something wrong on your end ...

Just bought WOTC, fresh install, added only a couple of basic mods (Evac all, Stop wasting time, male & female haircuts)... Enabled this mod, this mod doesn't work
NVG | JGvI 6 Feb, 2024 @ 2:02pm
killzone costs 2 actions, but it says it only costs 1.
apart from that, i have used this mod for years and it's great
MrMister 6 Feb, 2024 @ 12:18pm
Feature request: add a parameter that makes it as if the action cost is the same as iTypicalActionCost from the weapon template.
Dragon32 18 Nov, 2023 @ 9:51am
@copyrite
But as it does we can conclude that it needs to. No?
copyrite 18 Nov, 2023 @ 8:25am
@Dragon32 Therefore CBAC shouldn't need to force it.
Dragon32 18 Nov, 2023 @ 8:21am
@copyrite
It's a free action in the base game though.
copyrite 18 Nov, 2023 @ 8:13am
Hello. Could you please remove +AbilityCostColorOverrides=(AbilityName=Whiplash, bIsFreeAction=true) from the default config? Whiplash is not a free action in LWOTC, and a sizable playerbase of LWOTC use CBAC, so it's causing confusion.
Blueslime 2 Aug, 2023 @ 8:59am
I don't find "USE_ACTION_ICON_COLORS" in XComLW_Overhaul.ini and "Use Base-Game Tactical Ability HUD" in options ,but the mod is work in LWOTC
OxCD 16 Jul, 2023 @ 10:21am
Should be Vanilla. Real QoL must have. Thanks for this jewel 👍
Kawapatch 25 Jun, 2023 @ 10:53pm
Hey I was wondering if it would be possible to turn off the thicker coloured borders when setting bFULL_COLOR_MODE = true, such that the icons will have the same look as vanilla (thin borders) whilst also being coloured based on action cost?
RustyDios 20 Jun, 2023 @ 12:30pm
Weird place for a compliment, on someone else's mod.. but thank you, appreciated!
G~ 20 Jun, 2023 @ 11:33am
Hey Rusty, just dropping by to say I appreciate how you keep helping the community with both efficiency AND kindness. Wish there were more mod authors like you. Thanks!
RustyDios 5 Jun, 2023 @ 4:31pm
Well, not MY mod.. but yeah, the 2klauncher sucks .. the AML is much better!
Happy you got your issue solved :)
huntersorce20 5 Jun, 2023 @ 1:07pm
i'll check if i have framerate smoothing on to avoid future issues, but i actually managed to fix it. i downloaded the alternative mod launcher and now it works fine, both in main game and legacy. so apparently the crappy default mod launcher wasn't activating your mod properly.
RustyDios 5 Jun, 2023 @ 12:51pm
If all you are using is the Core Collection, nothing in there should conflict with this. The more likely answer is that you have at some point turned on "Framerate Smoothing" in the games options menu. In which case, turn it off. It messes up UI mods. And THEN perform a user-config reset as per the instructions on the xcom2 wiki troubleshooting page.
huntersorce20 5 Jun, 2023 @ 12:48pm
so apparently it's not working in the main game either, so i guess something is conflicting with it. how do i know which mod it is? is there a scan i can run to check?
huntersorce20 5 Jun, 2023 @ 12:34pm
not 100%, i am relatively new to playing with mods, but all my other mods are from the core collection: https://steamhost.cn/steamcommunity_com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=2165341111 and this mod is included in that, so there shouldn't be any conflict. plus i haven't had any bugs yet. i actually haven't gotten to the main game yet, figured the legacy missions were like a prologue, so i'll go check the main game, see if it works there.
RustyDios 5 Jun, 2023 @ 7:56am
Are you sure you don't have something else conflicting?
huntersorce20 5 Jun, 2023 @ 6:46am
doesn't work in the tactical legacy pack.
nobita 23 May, 2023 @ 12:28pm
Still works just fine
NightKnight 25 Mar, 2023 @ 9:12pm
@dragon nvm i got it fixed... but now im curious, if you havnt played LWOTC then what are you playing? :p :)
Dragon32 25 Mar, 2023 @ 12:29pm
@NightKnight
I don't know I'm afraid, I've never played LWotC.
NightKnight 25 Mar, 2023 @ 12:01pm
Yes I have, Im playing it,
I am using this collection: https://steamhost.cn/steamcommunity_com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=2370003018

Says the same instruction in the description, but I dont have that menu, no idea why, why do think ? What do you think I should do?
Dragon32 25 Mar, 2023 @ 2:53am
@NightKnight
You haven't installed LWotC right.
NightKnight 25 Mar, 2023 @ 12:02am
I dont have an "abilities" menu in the options, any idea why?
That's where I'm supposed to turn off the option for this mod to work,
Phoenix 24 Mar, 2023 @ 5:21pm
I totally understand. Thank you so so much for your time and letting me know. It means a lot. I recently got into this game I really love it and it’s why I got obsessed over this one little detail since I plan on playing it for a really long time. Do you guys accept donations or is that not possible through the steam workshop?
RustyDios 24 Mar, 2023 @ 1:47pm
It will need an update to this mod from the mod author.
It will just be something you'll need to learn to live with until the update can be made. :)
A little patience, I've informed the mod author on discord... I am 100% certain he will get to it when he can, but, this is all volunteer 'work'.. it might take some time
Phoenix 24 Mar, 2023 @ 1:11pm
To turn it off should I change the code of the mod or the game itself? I can change the code of either with the XCOM 2 Development Tools right? I'm sorry that I don't know, I'm new to coding. (I took one class in college)
RustyDios 24 Mar, 2023 @ 11:15am
Yeah, that's the controller selection brackets helper, added with WOTC.
It CAN be turned off, but needs to be done in the code.
Phoenix 24 Mar, 2023 @ 9:09am
I checked the .ini files but I didn’t see an option to change it. I also tried the vanilla version of this mod on WOTC and the brackets still show up weirdly enough.
Phoenix 24 Mar, 2023 @ 8:59am
Here’s a screenshot with it enabled: https://imgur.io/a/Z6nwIAE
And one without it enabled: https://imgur.io/a/ezFOm8O
Sorry I didn’t mean crosshair, I didn’t know how to explain it. I guess it’s the selection brackets.
RustyDios 24 Mar, 2023 @ 3:49am
Can you screenshot what you mean ?
I can't recall a crosshair coming up when you hover over abilities/perks .. unless you mean the selection brackets helpers that exist for people using controllers?
Phoenix 24 Mar, 2023 @ 3:35am
I know it’s not a big deal, but if you could at least tell me if it’s possible or not. I have OCD and I keep obsessing over it. I don’t mean to bother you, I’d just really like to know.
Phoenix 18 Mar, 2023 @ 6:20am
Is it possible to disable the 4 small lines/crosshair that shows up when you hover over the ability icons? I used the base game version of this mod when doing a vanilla playthrough and it didn't have that. Weirdly enough, I tested the base game version in WOTC and it has the 4 small lines too once I enable the mod.
RustyDios 24 Feb, 2023 @ 3:33pm
Did you... follow the LWotC troubleshooting steps to avoid the conflict and put LWotC in compatibility mode for this mod?

As described a few posts down?
nlapalo1 24 Feb, 2023 @ 2:41pm
FYI, I played xcom 2 WOTC a couple years back and really enjoyed it, so I decided to come back for another round but do LWOTC this time. Strangely, I was only getting 20fps after installing a bunch of mods and I have an RTX 3080 and an i7 10700 so that shouldnt be happening. After googling a ton I stumbled across a few forum posts that mention that this mod could cause major performance issues. After unsubscribing from this mod, I can confirm that im consistently hitting 120fps on max settings now. Hope this helps someone else out

One Steam tag should be sufficient!

War of the Chosen

NOT war of the chosen!
NOT WotC!
shiremct  [author] 21 Oct, 2022 @ 2:35pm
You may need the Mod Config Menu mod, and I assume the setting is somewhere in the Mod Options button (which is on the bottom of the options panel with MCM). I'm not 100% sure as I don't run LWOTC, but if you don't have MCM or are not looking in its Mod Options menu, try that.
e.ashif 21 Oct, 2022 @ 12:31pm
CAN anybody help me, I am trying to use this mod with longwar2(wotc) i dont have any other dlc..
I did change the activty to false in longwar's .ini file. but can not find ability menu in the game.
shiremct  [author] 9 Oct, 2022 @ 7:09pm
ModifyingActionName is for a specific action point type - this is a modifier that's only really useful for modders where new action point types are used to modify ability activation requirements.
