Yes, you are supposed to spawn at the bottom, you can see the spawnpoints designated by colored squares above.

It takes a lot longer to make a map detailed, but it can be done with the basic editor tools

You cant make maps that look round if you are using snap

Nope, snap just snaps blocks and crates edge to edge

Great work, theres not really much in the editor right now but it seems you have managed to make your own sort of hill-like shapes, with the ground, plus, its very creative of you to make something as large like this.
