For CSS, I'd just get it on sale and if not, save for it when it's on sale next time if it's enough of a problem.

for HL2 I honestly can't wrap my mind around not wanting to purchase it if not save up for it if I couldn't afford it. Best game ever since Doom.

Yes. Half-Life: 2 ends on a cliffhanger, but there are two more games that extend it. Half-Life 2: Episode One, and Half-Life 2: Episode Two.
