What you are seeing is separate subtools IE: The anchors are separate from the head and the ponytail / beard etc etc.... For instance, in order to "dangle" in game, the tentacles would have to be a separate object from the "main head piece".

I went a bit overboard with the amount of subtools I have on this helmet, but I was learning, so.. haha -- that's why you can see that backsides of alot of the pieces.

As far as being able to see both sides of it on Sketchfab (When you move the camera inside the head, etc...) -- That is a sketchfab option and yes it does use more resources as far as I know, but that has nothing to do with how the helmet would be rendered "in game"

Great question though! I wish I knew more so that I could give you a better, more concise answer! I hope this helped some though!

@Crackle2012 Why render polygons inside the head? Isn't that just a waste of resources? New to modeling myself so just kinda curious.

@Xilles37 ahh there you are!! Thanks so much for the feedback / compliment! What I had initially said to this was that the more I look at the helmet, the more I see that I could’ve improved / done differently. I was on the edge about the metal area around the mouth as well, but that is also exactly why I decided to leave it. I felt it was a bit different. I would rather have some people love it and some people hate it rather than have everyone think it’s “just ok” (if that makes any sense?!).

Ultimately I had to just call it finished, because sometimes you can fall into the never ending black hole of tweaking and tweaking things and just never finish it.

That said, your’s and everyone’s feedback is greatly appreciated / noted!

Not at all a bad helmet. The sides and back is great! I would love to see the front of it get worked up a litle bit. I think it's mostly the piece by his beard and mouth that doens't qutie sit right with me. The rest of the helmet is bomb though - Original Comment left here about a day ago.

@xilles37 urgh, I replied twice to a comment from you that was here but is now gone.

If you re-visit this, please let me know if you manually removed your comment or if I accidentally deleted it!? :-(

If you removed it, that is 100% fine. If I deleted it, I am very sorry and it was not intentional! I actually really appreciated the compliment and feedback!

I removed my two replies to it for now, so it doesn't look like I'm talking to myself XD.

@combustionsquirrel I just realized I had linked you the wrong finished high poly even -- This is actually the "finished" version that I'm using.

It has even more detail than the one below on many areas.

Sorry! I accidentally linked a previous WIP that was 1 step before the one in the above pic.
Crackle2012  [author] 28 Feb, 2018 @ 6:20pm
Ok! I was just curious! Thank you very much for the feedback! It's probably the way the light is hitting the metal -- but this gives me a good idea of how I can improve in the future! :-)

Thank you!
combustionsquirrel 28 Feb, 2018 @ 5:27pm
Hmm, I guess it's the light or something because it looks fine in that image.
Crackle2012  [author] 28 Feb, 2018 @ 5:18pm
Ah ok! -- It may just be the way the light is hitting it, or because they are a bit round or something?

Here is one angle of them in high poly form (before being textured to look metal) -

I'm curious if you still think they need more detail here, because I felt like much more would've been a bit overkill.

@Crackle2012 Ah, sorry for the misconception, I meant more detail in general with the lines, particularly on the metallic parts. As it is I think they make the helmet look smudgy.
Crackle2012  [author] 26 Feb, 2018 @ 7:48pm
@combustionsquirrel thank you! Can you be a bit more specific though? I’m not exactly sure how you mean. Texture = what makes the metal look metal / rough areas vs shiny areas and the dirt etc... so when you say more definition, do you mean smaller detail on the textures? (More grainy dirt / bumps on certain areas etc)? Or do you just mean more detail in general with the lines (sculpting wise) on the helmet?
combustionsquirrel 25 Feb, 2018 @ 9:16pm
I really like the general shape and design, but it looks unfinished. The textures need some polish (not literal polish, but more definition)
BOLDBLAKBRO 19 Feb, 2018 @ 4:37pm
It will look good as a inaros helm tho ,but not hydriod
Nikkity 19 Feb, 2018 @ 11:19am
I have a vac ban from 1989 days ago which is literally more than 5 years ago, But I can't upvote this, good looking hat
The Reaper 17 Feb, 2018 @ 11:43am
@crackle o love the design i would love to see it in warframe hope they put it in i can see you put alot of work into this hpe i find it inside warframe if they put it in
Punished Jeremy 16 Feb, 2018 @ 7:48pm
@Rekkou I would love to hear the stats, but I want the context you are putting those stats in. Like if they are your stat's or the entire stores stats.
I dont think you are going to disagree with me that from round 1 to round now, the quality standards for tennogen have increased. When people post thing's that are just reskins of regular skins, people go "wtf is this, did you even try". Im not saying that about this, but it's undeniably a better sale especially when it cost about the same as a skin that comes with a helmet.
I dont exactly know why you got all offended by what I said, but im not going to be one bit surprised when this good design get's buried by 30 other items that get published the day the next round get's announced.
Crackle2012  [author] 16 Feb, 2018 @ 7:41pm
Thank you @Archwizard_Drake ! I’m curious if you are comparing the light blue or dark blue of cheeks -> eyes. If it’s dark blue, there definitely are some different brush strokes between those two areas via S Painter, but the overall roughness of them should be the same as I used the same value in S painter for the entire dark blue area, but if the brush strokes are making it look bad I could probably fix easily!

I’m curious where you are seeing the unpleasant angles on the anchors though!? I’d love to try to fix but I can’t if I don’t know exactly! ;-). I put a bit of height and metal edge wear on them, some of that may be reflecting light oddly?

Please let me know if you are able! (Feel free to PM or reply here if you are able!). Thanks so much for the in-depth feedback!
Rekkou 16 Feb, 2018 @ 6:48pm
@Delta : People here really put unnecessary thoughts on tennogen when it's really just people making whatever they like, DE accepting whatever they like and people buying whatever they like. And do you really want to hear the stats or you're still just insisting the idea that people only want to buy a helmet with skin? Either way, I'm not here to convince or argue with you but to help the creator ease their mind. And I've done it, so i won't continue the discussion further because it will only derail the topic from OP's helmet
Archwizard_Drake 16 Feb, 2018 @ 5:46pm
I definitely like the general shape of the helmet, and I love that you integrated a metallic accent pathway for Prime users. However, the close-ups of it have a lot of discordant patches of textures (being tarp-like in its smoothness by the "eyes" but clay-like in roughness at the "cheeks") which should be more consistent, as well as some offputtingly angular segments on the metal sections which could be smoothed out.
Personally I think the "chin" also drops a little further than necessary as well.
Good start though! Some more polish and I could definitely see this in-game!
Jawxuah 16 Feb, 2018 @ 11:53am
Give it more of a water dragon/sea serpent kind of look. That would be really cool
Punished Jeremy 16 Feb, 2018 @ 11:11am
@Rekkou I know, but there are people out there that literally buy everything on tennogen, and it's not secret that tennogen is getting more cut throat and cramped lately. You can tell me how well a helmet sells, but can you tell me how much better s skin sells?
Crackle2012  [author] 16 Feb, 2018 @ 7:58am
@peku- thank you! Hydroid’s a fatty! :-)

The beard and the ponytail are supposed to be tentacles and no, the only “shiny metal” on the helmet are the side anchors. The dark blue areas are a bit softer and shinier than the light blue and brown. If you look at regular hydroid’s helmet, it should give you a better idea of what material each color is aside from the yellowish tint which is metal in this design. :-)
peku- 16 Feb, 2018 @ 4:03am
I love the things going back of the head water looking dragons or something. Nice idea! Can u see through it like water or is it metal parts? I'm looking at the 1st picture and the jaw/cheeks to me looks like it comes out too much like too bloated but other than that looks like a neat helmet.
Good Job!
Crackle2012  [author] 16 Feb, 2018 @ 2:07am
@Rekkou no worries! I’m flattered that you would come here and comment on this! I’m a big fan of your Rorqual helmet! I don’t feel pressured though. I only take it as a compliment if people would want to see a skin with it, really. If I had an idea for a skin when I thought of this I’d definitely have tried to do one!

Oh and I was totally kidding below when I said that no beard = not hydroid! Haha, I totally forgot that your design didn’t have a beard! You also didn’t have the luxury of knowing what hydroid prime would look like when Rorqual was released (if I recall?)

@tartarus_drawk thank you! - Hydroid isn’t too bad to get if he’s still on Earth? I know some frame drop locations got switched around in a recent patch. I’m super flattered that my design would make some one want Hydroid!

Also just to clarify, the screenshot I have with the darker / brown / grey colors are how the helmet would look on hydroid prime should you use his default colors.
Rekkou 16 Feb, 2018 @ 1:08am
@Delta : Details are confidential, but based on my revenue i can confidently say that you're wrong. Helmet sells well, my helmets sales including Hydroid saw huge spike whenever prime or deluxe skins were released even though the skins aren't aesthetically compatible. The conclusion is as long as people like it, they will overlook price or mismatch and will even prefer helmet rather than full skin.

@Crackle2012 : So no need to feel pressured to make a skin. As long as people like what you made, it would sell well regardless it comes with skin or not.
MadHatter 16 Feb, 2018 @ 12:22am
This is really nice, great work! I wish i had a Hydroid now.
Crackle2012  [author] 15 Feb, 2018 @ 10:04pm
Sure! That’s totally fair! ;-) skins are awesome for sure! I just really wanted to learn via making a helmet alone first. @Delta there is no skin with this - it is just an alternate helmet. I’m just advertising it with the base vanilla body.
Punished Jeremy 15 Feb, 2018 @ 9:59pm
@Crackle2012 I understand what you are saying, but if this skin is using the same textures as the base game hydroid then I dont think it's going to sell well when it's actually on the store.
One thing people love about tennogen skins are how much more detailed the skins are than the base game.
Crackle2012  [author] 15 Feb, 2018 @ 9:04pm
Thanks guys! One thing to note Delta - I made sure that this matched both regular and hydroid prime as closely as possible, thus the metal (which regular hydroid doesn’t have). One of the biggest challenges was making something that would fit both the prime and regular hydroid.

Frelling!!! Why you no like cheap quick crop!? Hahah :-/

I will add a sketchfab and some better pictures with the body ASAP!

Thank you Davy Jones!!!

Thanks to all for the compliments and critiques!!

Constructive criticism is 100% welcome here! ;-)
FrellingHazmot 15 Feb, 2018 @ 6:39pm
Crop your images better, presentation helps.
Drakonkrov 15 Feb, 2018 @ 5:57pm
I like the base idea, but needs some touching up. I would elongate the crest on his head a bit or something
primobrainlet 15 Feb, 2018 @ 5:56pm
how about yes
Punished Jeremy 15 Feb, 2018 @ 4:29pm
It's a fine helmet, but I dont think anyone at this stage in the game (tennogen) is going to want to buy just a helmet without an skin to go along with it.
Especially hydroid, because the Rorqual skin's textures dont fit base game hydroid textures when you try different colors
Crackle2012  [author] 15 Feb, 2018 @ 3:03pm
Noted! Thanks for the feedback guys! ;-) My initial thought was to switch it up from the rest of his bearded designs but, I came to the realization that no beard = not hydroid ;-)
Bing Chilling 15 Feb, 2018 @ 2:53pm
make the tentacles on the chin a bit longer, and it will be perfect :D
Cold Water 15 Feb, 2018 @ 2:51pm
If I could make one change, it would be to elongate the tentacles on the chin. Other than that fabulous helm
