(I'm playing on Brave New World, if that makes a big difference; I did notice that trade routes were unaffected, but I guess it hasn't been updated for that)

Um, I might be a little bit late to the party, but I've been noticing an issue with the volus where when a spot gets pillaged, it loses its gold bonus: a barbarian horseman came through, pillaged my Customs House, and now it only makes 4 gold(as much as my Salt mine!) Since the volus are naturally vulnerable to barbarians anyway, this seems grossly unfair to make them even weaker.

OMG, Volus in game acted just like I expected them to. They made crazy demands and even accused me of breaking promises I never made. What a bunch of a-holes! lol

@MadlockFreak - They're designed to take on everyone in a team against them at once. If their science is reduced then they'll be overtaken, effectively nullifying the point in them.

Would it be possible to include a less OP version of the Reapers? Maybe cut their Science/Gold growth by a good 60%?

@MadlockFreak - I tend to get underpowered complaints about the Volus. That 50% combat nerf hits them hard, plus they have much higher military maintenance so the army they can sustain is comparable to the other races. If you spawn beside someone peaceful it's alright, but if you spawn beside someone like the Vorcha or Collectors then you'll be in for some serious hurt.

I love playing the Volus, but compared to the other races, (besides the OP Reapers), they have one of the strongest traits in the game. Spawn next to a gold producing resource? You can afford building in a few turns. Golden Age? You can buy an army.

UPDATE V.5 - Volus Land and Naval unit maintenance increased by 50%. This wont nullify their trait, it just means the size of the army they can sustain has been reduced slightly.

Remember not to update if you want to continue a saved game.

You know what would be awesome? Re-texture the units so they look like they belong to their civlization. It is kinda weird controlling Human-looking units while playing the turians.

Do their doubled Gold bonus apply to Trade Routes in Brave New World? If not, you should really change them to do so, because otherwise their advantage won't be that big, seeing as tiles adjacent to a river doesn't provide one Gold anymore.

the point is ai volus never makes it past like the first 100 turns and haveing ai volus is just a waste every game i played so far 50 ish turns in the unkown civ has lost its capital pops up and you know the dam volus got shit on by one of the aggresive ai its a fun civ to play but its is a civ only an actually person can play

Also- to survive the battles of early game, you need to abuse defensive bonuses from forts and citadels. I held off the Huns AND Krogan both attacking at the same time, but I had to adjust, and play a very very defensive style.

I LOVE playing as the volus. Forces a completely different style of play. I ended up financing proxy wars with each of the city-state allies, funneling them units, and at the end of the game, each city state had three of their very own Death Robots to fend off my foes. Thanks for all the work put into these mods!

Good civs, but there are some balance issues. So far I've played ten games with all the civs that are out now, and each one has had a similar theme. I did not meet the Volus civ in game until I got put right next to them one game, but as in the other games, the Volus were quickly eliminated, usually by the Rachni, but occasionally the Krogan. The unique traits, while indicative of their strengths and weaknesses, are simply too extreme in both directions. Maybe a 25% bonus and penalty instead. That is still significant, but you can at least overcome the combat deficiency instead.

Oi... that Civ Trait is quite overpowered. The massive gold bonus over the length of a full game is just a tad too massive, considering the 50% penalty can be offset by Ship / Artillery / City Defense. I would think a 50% bonus to gold sources would be more balanced, in my humble opinion.

I really like this mod- the Volus are a unique group to play, but perhaps im to inexperienced with the game to play them well- often their combat inability forces me to jump for siege tech early just to fend people off (that -50 to combat is such a killer, though i understand why it's there), and then when a fight DOES break out my enemy Civs just never.give.up. to even cut a remotely fair deal, which then results in me oft having to run a buncha catapults and a few easily killed guys in to stab their city... If i ever do win with these guys, im sure the victory will feel some kind of sweet.
