1. The AI will seek to fill the civic slot with whatever it thinks will give decent benefits, which totally breaks the whole point of all these empires being thematic. Example: in my latest game the Cistrenthic Cybernetic Consensus, which I assume are supposed to be Mechanists, showed up with Rational Consensus and Reanimated Armies.
2. The AI usually seeks to fill the slot pretty early, so it will kneecap its own expansion by spending 250 influence to reform government early on.
Also, the Sacred Commonwealth of Earth humans have no traits. Not sure why.
From what I can tell (though you can correct me if I'm wrong), this mod was last updated when "Origins" were still civics. There's nothing actually BROKEN, the mod is playable, but there are quite a few empires that only have one civic. I assume this is because the other civic slot was once filled by Mechanists, Syncretic Evolution, or something similar. Aside from the fact that the content is missing, this also causes two minor gameplay issues:
Anyway, if you don't want to, I won't force you (obviously) to. In the end I started myself to update JME's origins in my own way so it's not a big deal. Do as you wish, life is too short to allow me to be mad toward you for this.
I can (and will) add a short guide how to transfer the mod files to the custom empire file later (today/tomorrow). You still need to subscribe to the "Required Items" even if you use them as custom empires and not via mod.
I would also prefer if you use my modpage for further discussion.
But you have all time, I'm not rushing you because here (in France) it's 3am right now and I'm going to bed just after having posted this.
Good night (or day whatever it is for you) and sweet times to you.
Anyway, thanks for your dedication.
Ed if you want it to be taken down... just let me know.
That being said, I see that DaTroll made it as it seems and I'd be curious to see if we selected the same origins for the same empires. BTW, Tarballs, feel free to ask him for his JME's version instead of mine since his is complete as he's told it.
One last time I assure you it's not as hard as it seems to do it alone. Sorry for not being able to upload a whole JME mod correction for now. At least I'm following this thread so I won't forget there's people interested in and I'll try to fullfil their attempts if I become able to do it one of these days.
If you decide to do it yourself, begin with the empires you like the more, play a game with them, do some more empires after, play another game with, etc. You'll see it can be fun.
One last thing: I'm not a modder myself and I won't officially publish anything based on EdFromEarth's work (or anyelse modder BTW) without his permission.
On a private basis maybe but that's all.
I'm going to make another "JME's origin selection" soon but once again I don't think I'll do all that remain at once. Let's say that if I'm done with all JME one day before you do it yourself, then, I'll look for a way to transmit it to anyone who could be interested but I'm tempted to tell you "Try to do it yourself". Honestly, just study a little the whole different origins and, one by one, read JME bios carefully. Each time (or almost) it's more or less evident to consider which origin fit the best.
BTW you'll see there is some of the JME which became unusable since Federations release, because one of their traits' cost has changed for example. In that cases just study how it is before changing anything, compare once again with its bio, and then correct the traits/ethics/etc... selection to stay as close as what it was before but legit in order to be usable.
To be honest I just started to update the JME's origin for myself since I'm aware of (excepted any change about) EdFromEarth being unavailable to do it by time lacking. Just started means I've done it for something like a dozen of JMEs or let's say 10% of them. I started a game and let the "JME's orgin definition" remaining work for later. That knowing I'm French and so, even if I translated a part of JME's bios in my language (a work I'm not done yet with), I have to read (and mentally translate) English bios carefully in order to select the most proper origin (always imo, EFE could consider it otherwise I don't know).
Would you mind uploading the changes you did as a mod on google docs or something, giving full credit to EdFromEarth of course, and just as a temporary band-aid while we wait for him to update the mod to better fit Federations' new playstyle?
To answer, in short, Federations compatible? I'd say: Yes.
In long: It seems yes but unless EdFromEarth could find the time to update his empires,
all of them have the same default origin.
In my case I'm using the alternative implementation method which allow to edit this mod's empires like "user empires" can be. That way you can edit them like if they are yours.
With Federations released, I started to edit JME origins, one by one. By reading their bio (since they are pretty well written), it's not so hard to decide which origin fit well with each empire.
BTW some traits/ethics from some empires (not all of them fortunately) must be reselected in order to allow the corresponding empire to be usable again.
That's what I do and like this all of the JME empires are considered like user empires by the game. And so you can edit spawn chances on JME empires exactly like you can do it with your own empires.
and i think that it works fine with the new update.
So, nothing to fix by now.
Anyway, Great mod! adds a lot of diversity and i quite enjoy it.
