But seriously, its not the Swarm that's weird, so much as Worker Drones. If you take Worker Drones with either Defective Scanners or Energy Leaks, you're getting +10% to 2 base resources, with only a -5% penalty for a single trait point. Granted, one of those resource bonuses is food, but Rogue Servitors and Bio Reactors are a thing. Plus, once you get to tier 2 and 3 of the Worker Drones tree, It's only about +5% less of bonus than the specialized traits, at the same cost, and you get big bonuses to the other base resources as well. I don't like to do any balancing in these compatibility patches, but its a bit ridiculous.

hmm? did traits change somehow? nevermind, you can't put on the power drills and defective scanners at the same time. whoops. I take that back lol
Phoenixwarrior  [author] 22 Apr, 2020 @ 10:36pm
I see what you mean about worker drones. I'll leave 'em then. As far as the Swarm opposite traits, Rusty Antiques shouldn't be a problem (since its Robot only and Swarm is Machine only). I actually left Defective Scanners unblocked because both it and Swarm are part of the same mod. Think that was unintended behavior by the mod author?
Ridesdragons 22 Apr, 2020 @ 10:22pm
well, of course the swarm trait also includes a generalist trait (logic engines series) and is exclusive to science specialist traits (physicist, etc) but... really, the swarm trait is just weird. it makes sense that a swarm would be bad at science and that you can't make it better at any given field of research, but it doesn't make sense that they can't be made better at manual labour in general. don't worry about it too much lol.

it does need to be made incompatible with the negative traits, though. swarm's not incompatible with defective scanners (mineral series) or rusty antiques (unity series), though I don't think anyone would run those alongside swarm lol
Ridesdragons 22 Apr, 2020 @ 10:13pm
as for worker drones, it should function similar to the science trait for squishies - it isn't incompatible with any of the specialist science traits. so you can have a species that is generally better at everything, but still sucks at physics, or is even better at engineering. so the worker drone series should only block itself/generalist traits, and not specialist traits. that includes the swarm trait. the swarm trait is weird because it's a lot of specialist traits slapped together, which is why it's incompatible with most trees that aren't incompatible with each other. but it's still a specialist trait, so it shouldn't be incompatible with the worker drone traits.

looking at the files real quick. noticed some one-way blockers which can cause annoyances but don't specifically cause errors (defective scanners blocks the traits that boost mineral production, but those traits don't block defective scanners. if you try to equip both, which the game will let you, you'll get red traits preventing you from continuing, so it's not broken, but it's still annoying as it'll still show the negative trait as compatible when it isn't).

@Ridesdragons While you're at it, what is your opinion on the Worker Drones series of traits? They're kind of in a weird spot, especially when it comes to the Swarm trait. On the one hand, the Swarm trait blocks Power Drills, but on the other Power Drills and Worker Drones do not block each other. Do you think Worker Drone and Swarm should be mutually exclusive?

nice! I'm currently exhausted, but I'll check it out tomorrow after I wake up
Phoenixwarrior  [author] 22 Apr, 2020 @ 3:07am
Ok, went through the traits lists almost line by line. I did a few tests, and I think I got everything.
Ridesdragons 21 Apr, 2020 @ 1:58am
OHP. I take that back. someone made an unofficial update, apparently. https://steamhost.cn/steamcommunity_com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=2027195339

I can post my work to a pastebin link if you want, just note that it's old, and there are going to be parts that are wrong. I haven't done any maintenance since 2.5 and, frankly, I didn't know someone updated enhanced robomodding until just now. enhanced robomodding might have had some changes, and I know additional traits definitely had some changes. still, it might be helpful as a place to start.

as I stated previously (may 21 2018), you will need 3 files in this mod - two of them blank files that overwrite the AT and ER, and the 3rd one a merged patch file
Ridesdragons 21 Apr, 2020 @ 1:51am
so I had actually been maintaining updates for this mod for quite some time, the mod does have several issues, like duplicate and blank traits, as well as traits not properly excluding other traits. furthermore, at some point the way pop stats worked changed, and enhanced robomodding broke completely (as well as the compatibility patch). I fixed it again. that said, as enhanced robomodding hasn't updated in -two years-... I gave up for 2.6.

right now, this mod doesn't work with 2.6 at all. however, there is no 2.6 version of enhanced robomodding, so... I don't think it really matters that this mod doesn't work
Phoenixwarrior  [author] 20 Apr, 2020 @ 4:28pm
@President Justin Do you know what specifically is not compatible with the current versions of the mods? I just did a quick test, and I didn't see anything amiss (was a very quick test though), so I'm wondering if this patch is even necessary anymore.
Prometheus 4 Apr, 2020 @ 11:01pm
Can you make another one but for 2.6?
FiddleSticks96 2 Mar, 2019 @ 2:41pm
Any chance you'll update this to 2.2?
Ridesdragons 21 May, 2018 @ 2:56am
hey, noticed a bug. the traits are appearing twice. tried to figure out why and I saw that you have zz_patch_traits_er and zz_patch_traits_at. trait_robot_mass_produced, for example, appears twice - once in each of the files. in one, it has a speed boost of 20, the other, 25. this is causing it to show up twice in the list (once with a 20% boost, the other 25). in fact, I can actually have both on my species at the same time.

instead of listing every trait twice, I suggest just making a single file with all the traits and match them up.

as far as stats go, I suggest making the vanilla traits have the stats listed in enhanced robomodding rather than the additional traits stats (so a speed boost of 25, not 20), since enhanced robomodding deals specifically with robomodding, vs additional traits whose focus is mainly on adding new traits in general

Thank you for this mod
Baccalon 2 May, 2018 @ 12:22am
You should try xenology, one of the best trait mods in my opinion

Let me know how it works. I suspect there may need to be one or two tweaks, but I do not have the time to extensively test it right now. Especially since I have never used Xenology.
Baccalon 1 May, 2018 @ 6:02am
I would love to also have a patch for Enhanced Robomodding and Xenology
Ridesdragons 29 Apr, 2018 @ 6:05pm
minus ER*

for some reason I thought you were the ER mod creator lol
Phoenixwarrior  [author] 29 Apr, 2018 @ 4:20pm
Ok good. Honestly though, if either mod ever has the time to update to the newer method of overwriting files, then this patch will become unnecessary. Hmm, I already asked about it on the Additional Traits page, and it won't be possible for a while. I'll try contacting the enhanced robomodding guy.
Ridesdragons 29 Apr, 2018 @ 4:05pm
I don't think either mod has updated since I installed them (minus your mod with the 2.0 update, of course) so I don't know. I just merged the mod files together and am glad I don't actually have to do that now lol
Phoenixwarrior  [author] 29 Apr, 2018 @ 8:05am
@Ridesdragons
Which mod gets updated more often?
Ridesdragons 29 Apr, 2018 @ 3:51am
oh cool, now I don't have to modify the files every time there's an update lol. thanks @phoenixwarrior
