This mod is so effective I forgot my torch and kept stumbling into walls.
horsewhisperer2 23 Sep, 2020 @ 12:59pm

Is there amy way you can fix Markarth? The entire city interior is dark as hell.
krhfulcher 12 Aug, 2015 @ 4:56pm
Dungeons look nice I guess, but this mod also makes town building interiors way, way too dark. Taverns and shops are pitch black in the middle of the day.
C21H22N202 27 Apr, 2015 @ 1:17pm
its nice but still doesnt make night eye or torches useful enough :/
Helljumper ADB 5 Apr, 2015 @ 5:56am
will this affect pc performance?
Easterlyn 4 Jan, 2015 @ 11:43pm
Interior Lighting way too dark for my taste... but other than that it was perfecft.
Will subsribe if you ever fix it.

shep1phil 4 May, 2013 @ 10:49am
testing this mod now for a few hours... only comment but unfortunetly a big one is that homes and houses are super dark, almost blackout... this will make me uninstall.

if you could just make it so the other areas ie dungeons where only effected, this would be much better and would re install..

Overall, great mod... shame the house element runes it. :(
shep1phil 4 May, 2013 @ 9:26am
if i wish to make it just a touch brighter, how do i edit the mod in creation kit? or do i have to do something else..
YeOldeMurloc 5 Mar, 2013 @ 2:52am
Mod? Just simply lower the brightness level in options -_-
Alex 27 Jan, 2013 @ 5:22am
I love this mod, but please make house interiors lighter!
Mr.Owl 19 Oct, 2012 @ 12:29am
i love the mod but is thier any mods of yours were the darkness also works on enemy detection?
Mayan King 14 Sep, 2012 @ 9:02pm
a must have too, but some dungeons would be better without the blue fog and the bright floor
Drug Cyborg, FBI 20 Jul, 2012 @ 2:59pm
I love it when I'm in dungeons, but homes are WAAAAY too dark to see anything at all, realistic lighting placement or no. While it's true they shouldn't be lit like a lightbulb factory, it also makes sense for them to be well-lit enough for people to move around without worrying about falling down stairs or running into walls. Maybe you could tweak the lighting values for all the vanilla houses to be less insanely dark?
Skoll's_Venom 3 Jul, 2012 @ 4:11pm
I thought of an idea not sure if your still updating this mod or not but the Kajit night eyes in my opinion should be more effective in the dark dungeons as they are ment to light up the night I wouldn't say return it to the vanilla brightness but make it more around the level of a candle light spell or something to that effect.
zyl0x 19 Jun, 2012 @ 10:13pm
For some reason my graphics freak out if I view any kind of fire in first-person with this mod active. Any ideas?
Maysie 17 Jun, 2012 @ 8:10pm
This goes well with the equipable lantern mod (puts it on a belt instead of using up a hand + follower safe ;3)
Kharchos 17 Jun, 2012 @ 10:45am
@frohammer: you can also use spells (magelight, candlelight...) and you can find torches almost anywhere; in shops, on bandits, some you can take out of their sconces...
Frohammer 2 Jun, 2012 @ 9:23pm
It's cool, but it feels like i'm at a disadvantage, while i'm seeing nothing but black, the enemies see like theres a room full of light,

I would use this mod if i actually wanted to use torches but i can't seem to find any (other than consoling some in for myself)
Evolving Art 2 Jun, 2012 @ 6:52pm
i love it, yeah homes and shops are a bit of an inconvenience but.. its realistic.. thats pretty much how it would be. put a few candles iin one side of a large room and your not going to be able to see the dark corners 10 feet away .. this has huge immersion factor for me, and in homes and shops i like having to take the time to light up a torch so i can see whats there. it also allows me to get some really great lighting setups. I hated the vanilla nondarkness.. especially when i wanted to place lights in a home the default lights were always making it impossible to get any dramatic lighting going on.. awesome mod!!
GrlGrim 24 Apr, 2012 @ 2:52am
Why don't you just turn brightness a bit down and Contrast up?
Phil the Salt 19 Apr, 2012 @ 3:59pm
I'd been wishing for realistic darkness. So many games allow you to see where there is no light source and I hate that. Thanks a ton!!!
m00nsta 7 Apr, 2012 @ 6:27am
do this mod work with the SV the Outdoors mod? i hope so cuz SV doesnt change dungeon lightning.
Mike Fox  [author] 15 Mar, 2012 @ 1:33pm
I am working on an seperate project that will deal with this problem. I am going to change the light sources of all interior cells to my own light objects. These will be placed where the light sources are and will have a longer range. But this project will take some time, you find the current process at "Mike Foxs Correct Lighting"
Zombra 15 Mar, 2012 @ 12:56pm
Very cool idea. I had to unsubscribe. Homes and shops being pitch black even when filled with light sources is a little silly. You should ramp up the radii on in-world light sources. When I go into a shop with 30 candles placed around the room, I should be able to see the shopkeeper. I will stay tuned and hope for an improved version.
Gandalflobo 6 Mar, 2012 @ 9:26am
PS. I still give it a thumbs up...
Gandalflobo 6 Mar, 2012 @ 9:25am
i had to unsubscribe ... please fix night vision in the dungeons, its as if the tiny amount of light that shoould be enough for night vision is absorbed into thin air...would be VERY cool if you could alow night vision to work... pitch black not needed just very close, enough to make it very very hard to see without local light source, but enough to allow those who have nightvision to have it work, although maybe not as over bright as usual. just a suggestion so you get the same feel and lack of vision of almost no light, but you are also able to deal with it in various forms not just making torches and light spell spamming.
jimbob 6 Mar, 2012 @ 3:31am
In regards to fixing the light sources, i believe someone has started doing a mod like that called "Real Lights - Cities" on Skyrim Nexus. Mabey you could team up seeing as its a big job and im sure they could use the help. Plus, the real lights mod goes hand-in-hand with your Darker Nights mod.
Mike Fox  [author] 4 Mar, 2012 @ 10:15pm
Yeah, I know. But I actually like it that way. I think the root of the problem is the placings of the lights in these "not dungeons" (as well as IN the dungeons, but that is an other topic ;) ). I have another project in mind, that places all the light sources where they belong. Most lightsources are in the middle of the room, while the object itself that SHOULD emit that light stand on a whole different place.

I could start that project with the "not dungeons" first, but even if, this may take a while because of the amount of interior rooms and mass of lights in it. I am doing this as a hobby after all ^^
MysteriousJester 4 Mar, 2012 @ 5:09pm
I really love this mod, but there is quite a sacrifice that goes along with it. Homes, shops, and pretty much every interior space that IS NOT a dungeon is now very dark as well. For now i am going to have to turn off this plugin until there is a fix. I really like the idea of darker dungeons, but altogether dark interior spaces is quite annoying. PLEASE PLEASE FIX!!!

Awsome. Glad to see you figured out how to do the overidden ones. The best dark dungeons mod so far.
Mike Fox  [author] 3 Mar, 2012 @ 2:03am
UPDATE: Even the overriden dungeons are now darker. Enyoy :)
Mike Fox  [author] 27 Feb, 2012 @ 9:27am
I think only the creators of skyrim know :) Changes vary from only fog distance or ambience color to no template at all. Depends on the location and what the creators thought would fit the dungeon.
jimbob 27 Feb, 2012 @ 4:28am
looks promising. any idea why some are overiden?
Mike Fox  [author] 26 Feb, 2012 @ 9:51pm
I added 6 pictures to see the changes.
PsychoPsyops 26 Feb, 2012 @ 1:59pm
It would be easier to tell how much of a change this mod implimented if the screenshot was split vertically.
Maybe a video?
