Trust me, I can undersatnd your frustration.

I would suggest to look for a clan/unit in your timezone that hosts public games that corresponds to your preferred mode of play. Check units.arma3.com , and filter for Realism or semi-realism, and you will find quite a lot there.

In theory, you can play it single player, there's a high command module to control the other teams, but in practice, it probably won't work that well alone
