I'm not sure if lighting a book on fire is the best dea either. Besides, particles seem to be done by Valve for the most part.

this should be on fire with like odd color demon flames... becuase the warlock does use fire in his attacks. I dont see how the book could just magicly shoot fire haha but cool non the less

That's what I was trying to do with the animations, but the importer doesn't support them, and it doesn't look like it supports manually adding jigglebones. For something like that, it would have to be Valve's doing.

You should also make sure to give a floating effect and allow it to wobble around via jiggle bones or something. While the concept is really nice and has the possibility of being executed really well, you can end up throwing that all away with a stationary book that looks like it's static and simply stuck onto the staff.
The point I'm trying to get across is, do everything in your ability to make it so it doesn't appear unrealistic given the circumstances.
