@gnometorule ; Nope, that is how the mod is supposed to work. The ghost still will vanish if you use all the focus and each rend costs focus. But you can regain focus through channel and overcharge. So never use rend unless your ghost has two focus available.
gnometorule 6. nov. 2023 kl. 8:02
Mod doesn't work for me. Ghost vanished after a few attacks. The exact moment was killing a trooper which also exploded a (6 dmg) explosive canister (that the ghost should be immune to bc the templar has fortress - and he was anyway at full health before, so it must have just expired).

I installed the mod mid-campaign for a commander/I run. Maybe that is the issue, but the mod description says "works mid campaign."

Hi, I love the mod, but I was just wondering if it’s compatible with the Templar overhaul mod ‘Proficiency Class Plugin: Templar’?

@GargakOfTheEast Templars can’t use the Wraith Suit. Do you use a mod to allow them to do that?
ssomchay85 18. apr. 2020 kl. 11:34
LOL I was hoping one of you guys would blame GggghOOOST!
GargakOfTheEast 31. mar. 2020 kl. 21:14
also, thank u :) mystery solved! :)
GargakOfTheEast 31. mar. 2020 kl. 21:14
Ohhhhhhhhhhhhh dude I think that's what going on then Udaya.

I usually give my Templar an armor with the Wraith ability (either Wraith Suit, or the Fortress Armor from the Chosen Reward Variety mod).

Come to think of it, I don't think this bug pops up when she has Grand Titan Armor equipped instead, because that doesn't have Wraith on it.
Udaya  [ophavsmand] 31. mar. 2020 kl. 16:10
@GargakOfTheEast Not that I've ever had something like that happen to me before, but I think I can guess why that happens. Have you ever used the Wraith ability before? It applies a "transparency texture" to a certain unit, in the same way that Ghost makes Templars look engulfed in psionic energy. Applying one while another is active, however, causes the other to disappear (or at least that's what happens to me during testing).

To visualize this, imagine a Ghost that phases through a wall and comes out as a regular Templar.

If you have any other mod that causes Ghosts to use the WallPhasing ability (or any similar mod that utilizes "character textures"), or you're using my Powered Armor Rebalance mod and enabled Ghost armor bonuses, that may be causing it.
GargakOfTheEast 31. mar. 2020 kl. 13:34
Hi Udaya,

I am not sure if it is this mod, but this minor problem only appeared after I installed A Better Chost.

It's a great mod, but there is a graphical glitch. The "blue fluidy ghostly look" of a summoned ghost disappears on the following turn, and the summoned ghost looks exactly like the Templar that summoned it.

I had two Tifa Lockharts running loose!

It's only a minor inconvenience, but it can be confusing and possibly very bad if you mistakenly send "your ghost" on a suicide run, but was actually the real Templar :(

LWOTC?
Udaya  [ophavsmand] 9. feb. 2020 kl. 18:26
@Not Thanatos Yeah, Ghost can be confusing if you don’t know all the ins-and-outs of it. Rend using Focus, dying at 0 Focus/using an Ionic Storm, not having full Focus levels at spawn, etc makes it a lot different than the average Templar. Still, I hope this mod helps you mitigate issues like that, since you still have the chance to gather Channel/Overcharge Focus levels.
Slice of Thanatoast 9. feb. 2020 kl. 10:13
Sorry, wasn't aware of that mechanic, I've only ever used Ghost with full focus and that was the first time I used it with only 2 focus. Just assumed it was a bug because I never had the Ghost have less than 3 focus.
Udaya  [ophavsmand] 9. feb. 2020 kl. 8:03
@Not Thanatos I thought you said that you had a Templar with 4 Focus spawn the Ghost that died. If it's a Templar with only 2 Focus, of course the Ghost will spawn with 1 Focus and die after the first attack it uses. That's how Ghost works; it always spawns with one less Focus than the Templar who created it (+1 with Meditation).
Slice of Thanatoast 8. feb. 2020 kl. 23:44
It only happened when I used it with 2 focus, when I have 4 focus the issue doesn't happen so I'll just stick with that. And no I haven't tried it again yet.
Udaya  [ophavsmand] 8. feb. 2020 kl. 22:26
@Not Thanatos I've also used Psionically Guided Bullets, so that shouldn't be an issue. Is this issue an isolated incident or have you been able to replicate it? A video might help show the problem.
Slice of Thanatoast 8. feb. 2020 kl. 11:07
I am using Psionically Guided Bullets and High Voltage Templar but those don't touch the focus bar itself. High Voltage Templar does change how the Overcharge ability works though, but the Ghost started with 1 focus before they hit anything
Udaya  [ophavsmand] 8. feb. 2020 kl. 9:10
@Not Thanatos I've never had that happen with Supreme Focus. All my mods should be compatible with each other, including Ghost. Do you use any other mods that affect Templar Focus?
Slice of Thanatoast 8. feb. 2020 kl. 1:56
This mod seems to have an issue with the Supreme Focus mod, I had a Templar with 4 focus spawn a Ghost and the Ghost only had 1 Focus when spawning and died immediately.

Udaya  [ophavsmand] 1. feb. 2020 kl. 20:59
@Adam Jensen 007 I haven't played XCOM 2 seriously in a pretty long time, so I don't know what weapon mods I'd choose nowadays. Regardless, here's my old mod list: https://pastebin.com/Mse20DT5
Adam Jensen 007 1. feb. 2020 kl. 10:21
True but I keep getting detected and I don't know how to re-enter concealement I am a noob xd. I will try this mod on the next playthrough. What mods do you use for weapons by the way?
Udaya  [ophavsmand] 1. feb. 2020 kl. 8:32
@Adam Jensen 007 I think the Wraith Suit already fulfills that purpose, even if they don't follow the exact same role. Besides, you have Reapers and Rangers for concealment.
Adam Jensen 007 1. feb. 2020 kl. 8:06
Great mod will you consider a ghost armor for the future as well like xcom 1?
Udaya  [ophavsmand] 11. mar. 2019 kl. 11:09
@Cúchulainn Yes, that mod should be compatible with this.
Cúchulainn 10. mar. 2019 kl. 17:26
Does this mod work with [Hero Rebalance : Templar] Mod?
Cake_Knight 7. mar. 2019 kl. 14:22
Yay! Now I won't feel forced to use the Ghost as a suicide bomber with Ionic Storm!
GUA 25. okt. 2018 kl. 18:58
Thanks, Udaya, it's probably a conflict with Puella class.
Udaya  [ophavsmand] 25. okt. 2018 kl. 10:50
@GUA The Templar Ghost already has the EVAC ability available with this mod enabled, so you shouldn't be having that issue. You can see all of the removed ability restrictions in this mod's XComGameData_SoldierSkills.ini, and EVAC is one of them. One of this mod's screenshots even shows that Templar Ghosts have the EVAC ability available to them now.
GUA 25. okt. 2018 kl. 10:03
Oh and to add, I was using the Ghost with the Puella Magic mod, f that makes a difference. The Ghost also didn't use half of its abilities.
GUA 25. okt. 2018 kl. 10:01
Is there a way to add an evacuation ability to the Ghost in order for it to be able to evacuate? I know they have one added to Zombies and Celetid turetts. I was in a mission where we had to evac a VIP, and the last 2 on the map were my Akimbo and the Ghost.
The Ghost coulnd't evac, so I had to send it into some fire and drop a nade on it's head.
Udaya  [ophavsmand] 29. sep. 2018 kl. 8:41
@SentySent I leave the idea of changing charges to cooldowns to this mod: https://steamhost.cn/steamcommunity_com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=1158755979
SentySent 29. sep. 2018 kl. 8:22
I got a suggestion to add: an option to toggle unlimited Ghost charges along with a configurable cooldown timer.
Schadenfreude 9. sep. 2018 kl. 12:09
@Udaya
This is why Domination and Mimic Becons are broken.
Udaya  [ophavsmand] 9. sep. 2018 kl. 11:25
@Schleicherfreund As for extreme value from taking 2 hits from an enemy, that's basically just spending two Focus for a Mimic Beacon instead of throwing it from another soldier. Better yet, if keep your Focus and don't use Ghost, your Templar can simply Rend + Arc Wave multiple enemies, Parry one hit, Deflect/Reflect many more with the 60% chance given by 3 Focus, and become an amazing tank unit and excellent returner of damage. Afterwards, they just kill every enemy with Ionic Storm and get all of that Focus back. Rinse and repeat.

None of this would be the case if Templar Ghosts could gain Focus, however. Gaining Focus would put the Templar Ghost above single, or even multiple units the Warlock spawned, and Domination would only equal it in strength since that ability is a risk-reward variable for XCOM.
Udaya  [ophavsmand] 9. sep. 2018 kl. 11:25
@Schleicherfreund The conditions you described here make the Templar Ghost a formidable unit, but not an exceptional one. In fact, the reason I described Invert/Exchange as being contradictory to your argument is because one ability making another ability better is the exact premise of this mod. The Ghost should be able to benefit as much from the overwhelming utility of Invert and Exchange as the original Templar benefits from Overcharge and Channel.

Risk management/utility is always important, but comparatively, you said it yourself: Ghost is just a subpar Domination. In addition, the Warlock's Spectral Army and Corress, the Gatekeeper's mass reanimation, and the Spectre's Shadowbind all do the job better. Permanent units without limitations, and in most cases, no charges. Even Void Rift is arguably better.
Schadenfreude 9. sep. 2018 kl. 10:36
One addition, that I completely forgot to mention, that is closing my case.

The reason why domination effects are so powerful is not only because it removes enemies and gives you actions, it also makes enemies waste actions on the dominated enemy.

Ghosts are the latter, without the former, at the expense of a small damage increase. Let's be charitable and say the ghosts inverts with an enemy (making that enemy a free kill) and the enemies then use 2 of their actions to kill the ghosts, that's an extreme gain in value.

Using one of your actions to stun an enemy is already worth it, you paid an action, to deny the enemy an action. The ghost is the value of a stun (action denial) on steroids.
Schadenfreude 9. sep. 2018 kl. 10:31
@Udaya
It is, because it's an action increase, with action being the best economy in the game, and on top it's got great utility and risk management (and the entire game IS about managing risks). I am not contradicting myself, I am adding to how it can be even better your other soldiers, making the ghost, in fact, better, if not invaluable.

I will leave it at that.
Udaya  [ophavsmand] 9. sep. 2018 kl. 10:02
@Schliecherfreund And yet that relies on two other abilities being purchased to bring out a Templar Ghost's effectiveness. Invert/Exchange is another good ability to keep the Templar Ghost around for, but it's literally the only scenario where the Templar Ghost is advantageous over the original Templar.

Using that as an argument is contradictory to your premise, though. I thought you were arguing that Ghost as an ability is good by itself, not due to other abilties being available. If you need Invert, Exchange, Bladestorm, etc. to make it useful, why exclude Channel and Overcharge in the first place?
Schadenfreude 9. sep. 2018 kl. 9:52
@Udaya
The ghost can safely utilize invert to save soldiers, or draw enemies out for a guaranteed kill.

Let's say a tough enemy, high defense, is on full cover, you're not easily reaching it and it poses a great threat to you. Let's say you use a Grenadier to blow up the cover, that's already an action used to make the enemy more accessible, now you've done even better than a grenadier, you are not only flanking, but point blanking the enemy. Your own Templar would potentially be at threat by teleporting behind enemy lines, your ghost is disposable.

Utility is underrated.
Udaya  [ophavsmand] 9. sep. 2018 kl. 9:48
@Schleicherfreund The extra body only lasts for 1-2 more turns, though. 2 extra turns of a weaker Templar is good, but not good enough to justify as a Colonel perk. Ionic Storm has proven to be far more effective in both providing damage and Focus return after kills. Void Conduit restores health and completely immobilizes any visible unit for only one Focus.

Another good use for the Templar Ghost would be Ghost bombing with Meditation + Ionic Storm, but that just makes Ionic Storm look like an even better ability than before.
Schadenfreude 9. sep. 2018 kl. 9:42
@Udaya
That's not a turn loss, you are creating a body with an action for an action, it's net 0 gain/loss of action, next turn you capitalize on that extra body.
Udaya  [ophavsmand] 9. sep. 2018 kl. 9:39
@Schleicherfreund The Templar Ghost doesn't lose a turn. The creator does.
Schadenfreude 9. sep. 2018 kl. 9:36
@Udaya
You don't lose a turn.
Udaya  [ophavsmand] 9. sep. 2018 kl. 9:32
@Schleicherfreund It isn't, if you use the Templar effectively. As for the Templar Ghost's immediate actions, you now only have a weaker Templar with 2 Focus left to attack the enemy. Given that you use an attack that turn to make up for your original Templar's action loss, it remains with 1 Focus on the next turn. That's only one more weaker Templar action before it disappears.

You'll get an extra one with the Meditation GTS upgrade, but it still isn't enough extra action economy to justify losing out on a turn where you could've just used Arc Wave + Parry with a full-strength Templar. Hence why I said Ghost is good for situations where you have extra time.
Schadenfreude 9. sep. 2018 kl. 9:22
@Udaya
I don't know why it would be hard to get 3 focus before spawning a ghost. And since the ghost immediately acts you're only sacrificing dps for future action gains, you don't lose actions on the same turn.
Udaya  [ophavsmand] 9. sep. 2018 kl. 9:20
@Schleicherfreund Action economy > damage is true for bondmates, Psi Operatives, and Skirmishers. They have the actions to spare, but in this case, you sacrifice both a unit's strength and actions to create another unit. Unless you also have the Meditation GTS perk, they also come out even weaker than your original Templar at -1 Focus.

You can only really justify using Ghost if you either have Bladestorm or both spare time and the extra Focus to spawn one in case of an emergency.
Schadenfreude 9. sep. 2018 kl. 9:08
@Udaya
It's a momentary dmg nerf, at the benefit of action increases, with actions being the single most important economy in the game. Dmg < Actions

Just throwing that out there
Udaya  [ophavsmand] 11. aug. 2018 kl. 8:22
@Aegelweard It makes Templar Ghosts more powerful. Not too sure about overpowered, though. Using Ghost is a heavy investment in Focus, forcing your Templar to fall back momentarily. If you're strapped for time and need a unit with just as much power as the Templar to back you up in a moment's notice, the Templar Ghost may disappoint you. After all, it only lasts so long.

Don't get me wrong, I love the Templar and all of their Colonel abilities, I just made this mod since I like the idea of Templar Ghosts picking up psionic loot to regain Focus.
Aegelweard 11. aug. 2018 kl. 0:28
Wouldn't it make Templars way too OP though ? I mean, Templars are great as they are. Do they really need more power?
I Darkstar X 23. juli 2018 kl. 11:29
That's OK, I can stick with Ghostbombing for now XD I look forward to seeing what your next project is too! ^^
