The shelves is a nice touch, but aren't all the books supposed to be black without titles? I had thought that wouldd be some of the reason people'd go mad. They no the answer's there but they will almost certainly never find it.

For the new version I removed wooden shelves, and replaced with books at right angles to create artificial shelving that keeps the feeling that books are stuffed into every nook and cranny (and also looks better when tiled on ceilings) but still gives a feeling of accessibility. I feel that this strikes the best balance according to my own tastes.

Also improved the texture normal maps to get rid of some visual glitches and improve depth and lighting.

New version now uploaded to Steam Workshop - if you've already subscribed you'll be updated to the new version automatically. If you preferred the style of the older version you can still download that version (alongside the new version) at the Skyrim Nexus - http://skyrim.nexusmods.com/mods/36222/?

@GamerRangerX - it's already on the Nexus - and updated to a newer version than currently on Steam - http://skyrim.nexusmods.com/mods/36222/?
Will be updating the Steam Workshop version soon.

@PBrissiaud - Thanks! I think the newer version (already on the Nexus, coming soon to Steam) is much better.

Awesome mod. We don't have to be bookworms to have it on, but having it on will make it far more realistic.

@Illusive Otter Thats why I said it was complete bullshit...
Authun 24 May, 2013 @ 3:56pm
@SkyLynxify I know why it was banned, I just don't understand the thought process behind it, that's like banning Stephen King's It because someone is afraid of clowns. Crazy people don't need to read books to get crazy ideas.

@Ryke - Steam had deleted my description without my knowledge - thanks for letting me know, I've now put the description back online again.
Raxeuz 23 May, 2013 @ 10:45pm
So what the hell is this? No Description...
SkyLynxify 23 May, 2013 @ 9:07am
@Illusive Otter Catcher in the Rye was made 'forbidden' because a psycho claimed that there was a submiminal message, causing him to murder John Lennon. I find that to be complete bullshit seeing as how the book was nothing more then whiney teenage bullshit.
Authun 21 May, 2013 @ 4:47pm
@jackstarr - Fine and dandy, I'm only referring to the fact that the word used to name the place is pulled from Apocryphal books, IE forbidden tomes, all of which in real life, are very old (unless you count catcher in the rye for whatever reason)
jackstarr  [author] 21 May, 2013 @ 10:44am
@Illusive Otter - Hermaeus Mora, as Daedric Prince of knowledge and memory, is the counterpoint to Julianos - all knowledge is represented in his library, including but not limited to the apocryphal tomes...it's the very fact that all knowledge is represented that turns Morian Zenas mad in "On Oblivion". There are indeed very old and dangerous tomes in Apocrypha (as it is so named), but there are also many new books - even the vanilla game places new books around the place. Apocrypha is the library of everything that is known.

Thanks for the comparison pics. I always prefer being able to see what a mod is changing before subscribing. Nice work! :-)
Authun 20 May, 2013 @ 4:10pm
Actually Apocrypha refers to excised or forbidden books, so the books in question would -not- be new, they would most likely be very old and very dangerous tomes that haven't been read by many for many many years
jackstarr  [author] 20 May, 2013 @ 6:50am
@Genebris - you are wrong. The bookshelves are completely lore-friendly - the description in "The Doors of Oblivion" in-game book is that of a library with shelves stacked high, a vast library where all the knowledge in the world is at your fingertips, enough to turn a person mad. This book first appeared in Oblivion, and I was expecting this library in-game - and was disappointed with the style as provided. Why should all the books look old? The books represent knowledge, and new knowledge is being discovered all the time, so the library is ever-expanding with new books - plus there are still many old books seen elsewhere in the realm.
Genebris 20 May, 2013 @ 5:36am
There anyway shouldn't be bookshelves. And books should look more old.
This is unlore, i think.

Would it be possible to have a few before/after screenshots?
Nogamertag0666 19 May, 2013 @ 9:41pm
will this be pointless after you beat that part of the game even though i subscribed to it already

Apocrypha - The Library of Forbidden Knowledge

According to lore, Apocrypha is "an endless library, shelves stretching on in every direction, stacks on top of stacks."

Unfortunately, in-game, I feel that the walls of books are a pixellated mess.

This first release includes new textures with bookshelves containing books along the walls (and ceilings), and upscales (bicubic smoothing) the fish-man statue textures.

The textures themselves are based on "Buchregal mit Musikschriften" - the original image is in the public domain.

Technical Details:

- 4096 textures. May need decent graphics card. May not be optimized for best performance, but I don't see any frame rate hit on my own system.
- As with all retextures, the visuals may not be to everyone's taste - the walls differ quite radically fro the original textures, while (I believe) still remaining lore-friendly.
