fun map

Man I'm glad I made it. That first chamber had me concerned. The Cobalt room was intense until I remembered what to do. The final one was fairly easy for me. I figured out that you could jump off the other angled panel to get the right momentum for the cube button. I can see how hard you worked building and testing this one. Thank you.
Here's one you'll like I'm sure. Smoke and Mirrors

That was a very good test chamber.

Re-reading my initial comment, I see that I misremembered my method and for some reason I included "the cube" as one of the things I did not use. Duh. Of course, that was wrong... as you said, you can only activate the funnel with the cube! I must've been thinking about something else. I just played all your "elements" chambers, and my brain is addled. Hehe.

Perfect, thanks, that's pretty crafty, I remember it kind of annoyed me that I couldn't close that gap between the laser grids but I didn't think it affected the solution. Unfortunately, I still can't close that gap but there's an easier fix which I've now added as for a hint; one of your portals in the video is in the right place, the other isn't and the first move is a rather speedy jump.

Okay, here:

To be perfectly honest I initially spent about 5 minutes trying to work out the proper way to complete this, before giving up and just forcing my way through! I tend to break chambers a lot that way :)
Perhaps you could advise the correct way.
EuroSong 14 Oct, 2013 @ 1:57pm
I'll try and make a video.. but you'll have to give me a bit of time, as I have work! :)
nicklonium  [author] 13 Oct, 2013 @ 3:57pm
I don't see how you could use the funnel at all without the cube given that the cube is the only item that can activate it. The player also shouldn't have access to that level of vertical momentum without the cube either as the same cube button also activates the only white surface at the right height to reach the funnel. Could you elaborate a bit? Screenshots, more detailed descriptions, a video would be best, any way of demonstrating exactly what ninja skills were used.
EuroSong 13 Oct, 2013 @ 7:27am
I could not find a use for the laser; the cube; or the moving platform in the first room. After a few minutes trying to work out how to get the cube (and myself) up to the platform, I eventually managed it by ninja skills: avoiding the red laser fields and just get to the button on the far side of the room. Therefore was able to fling myself up to the blue funnel without use of the cube & platform etc.
nicklonium  [author] 30 Sep, 2013 @ 2:26am
Fixed it so that your method is no longer possible. The speed gel jump is most definitely possible just difficult. If you really did the flings right, you would land squarely on the pressure button. Thanks for playing, and particularly for finding that alternative jump in the first room.
presto668 29 Sep, 2013 @ 9:03pm
Didn't bother with the speed gel in the first room because I really think the jump is impossible. Just set up portals on the ceiling and floor, build up some speed and move the ceiling portal back to the floor and time it so you fly up to the moving platform. Then just portal the cube up to you. . I also gave up in the last room because even when I think I did the flings right I still smacked into the cube dropper. Way too fiddly.
MachManX 22 Sep, 2013 @ 12:05pm
So this was a decent chamber that required some ninja skills. Different I suppose. The first room had puzzle-solving, but then the second room was about skill than puzzle solving. The third room went back to puzzle-solving with a tad of ninja. Because all rooms varied in element I think this multi-layered chamber came out good.
wildgoosespeeder 19 Sep, 2013 @ 3:03pm
This was a bit finicky at times, especially the momentum control puzzle. I had difficulty hitting the button to drop the final cube. It's hard in the wrong sense of the word. It doesn't challenge my mind but rather my ninja reflexes.

Try my map?

ANOTHER GREAT JOB
DropTheDodongo 26 Aug, 2013 @ 8:16pm
I honestly didn't even see the antline until like 5 minutes after I posted that. Chalk it up to trouble keeping up. It's a surprise I managed to beat all of these chambers.
nicklonium  [author] 26 Aug, 2013 @ 3:02am
Added a light to make sure the player knows the angled panel is white, I hoped the antline would've been a clear enough indication but a light is no bother to add if it makes the chamber a little smoother.
DropTheDodongo 24 Aug, 2013 @ 6:58pm
Wow, this is one case where I have to agree about the lighting. If it weren't for diafield's comment (I only go 10 minutes before looking for hints) I wouldn't have realized that such a dark surface was portalable.
kwyjibo 1981 24 Jul, 2013 @ 6:32pm
You're right, that was an unintended solution. I've changed the map to make it harder to do that. Would you mind trying again and giving feedback? Thanks.
nicklonium  [author] 24 Jul, 2013 @ 6:47am
Step by step: lined up the laser cube with the receiver/relay, walked to the other side of the room, placed the ball on the sphere button, placed the cube on the resulting white angled panel, walked around to the square nearest the faith plate adjacent to the cube, placed a portal beneath the cube, dropped down onto the fizzler deployer bar, jumped across to the adjacent square, jumped carefully down to the lower area to avoid the laser grid, placed a portal on the white wall at the bottom, received the cube, portalled myself and the cube to the entrance side of the room and the rest should be obvious.
kwyjibo 1981 22 Jul, 2013 @ 3:44pm
How did you solve it?
nicklonium  [author] 22 Jul, 2013 @ 8:11am
Glad you enjoyed it, unfortunately I'm right on the item limit in here so if I were to add a light it would be by moving it from somewhere else in the chamber. I'll see what I can come up with.
I played through your chamber, it was certainly interesting, a lot of fizzlers to dodge/navigate although I don't think I solved it the way you intended. The only thing I didn't use was the laser set up that turns off the fizzler to get to the lower area, it's possible for the player to get down to that area by using the sides of the fizzlers and dodging the laser grid mid jump.
kwyjibo 1981 21 Jul, 2013 @ 8:50am
Great map. The only criticism I would make is to put a bit more lighting in the first room. When the ledge first comes out after shooting a lazer into the receiver, it was so dark, that it was hard to tell that the ledge was portalable. Other than that, fantastic map.

like Prototype said "nice map fairly straightforward" i personaly didnt find any bugs it was done well, loved the bounce jell room XD
Prototype 1 Jul, 2013 @ 5:49am
Nice map, fairly straightforward, didn't work out the use for the moving platform in the first room. I also didn't use any of the angled panels in the last room. Not too difficult, but still entertaining. Perhaps you could try my map: Geltastic
Iron Yeti 30 Jun, 2013 @ 9:56pm
Well, I've made some headway on the last chamber, I think. I can hit the wall right above or right below the button, depending on what height I fall from before portaling through to the pop-out angled panel. I haven't found a way to meaningfully use the other two angled panels that lets me use the first one before it vanishes. Not sure what permutation I'm missing to hit the button itself.
Iron Yeti 30 Jun, 2013 @ 8:16pm
I've played the whole collection -- loved it overall! I just commented on the two that gave me trouble. Thanks for the maps and for the quick responses!
nicklonium  [author] 30 Jun, 2013 @ 2:03am
Not at all without adding a sign in the room with custom textures and I don't like using mods, even very minor ones. The technique is taught and used effectively in the single player campaign, much like a lot of the methods used in community chambers, so there isn't much of an excuse to not know about it. The jump in the last chamber isn't your typical angled panel portal jump, it looks like one but I've designed it so that there's a slight twist. Without spoiling it too much, it combines horizontal and vertical portal jumps into 1 manoeuvre.
I would encourage you to play other chambers in this collection, Cobalt and Sulphur are my least forgiving, longest and most challenging chambers so it's unfortunate that you've picked those 2 to play through first (assuming you're yet to play any other chambers in the collection).
Iron Yeti 29 Jun, 2013 @ 8:27pm
Not enough people know to hold Ctrl to stop bouncing. The game often has a popup note about it, can you add that to the level?

I gave up on a room that seems to have a really tricky shoot-while-flying maneuver. I'm not much on the FPS twitch reflexes. Either I'm missing a think-it-through solution, or I'm not up to the task.
nicklonium  [author] 13 Jun, 2013 @ 7:40am
I beg to differ on the difficulty of the bounce room, I'm surprised at how few people know which button to hold to make that small, very aggravating room much easier. If I remember rightly, the single player devotes part of an early level to teaching you which button it is...
Thanks for playing and the feedback, it's all appreciated and taken on board for future chambers.
Whiterock 13 Jun, 2013 @ 7:29am
I managed to finish this in a decent amount of time. It took one or two tries for certain things such as the cube/lift and the companion cube grab, but not bad. However, the bounce room, while a neat idea, is implemented badly. You ricochet around so fast, and because of the walls you cannot predict where you will end up making it more of a frustration than a challenge. Especially if the turret hits you, because you go off bouncing again and there's nothing you can do about it. I like the ties to the blue - cobolt, but that room makes it not fun.
Blue 9 Jun, 2013 @ 2:52pm
I noticed it is possible. Managed to get myself op on the elevator once. But The water makes you die alot. You might consider removing the water or atleast a part of it.
nicklonium  [author] 9 Jun, 2013 @ 2:37pm
You're definitely doing it right, I appreciate that it can be a tricky manoeuvre and it's a slightly more advanced jump technique but it's possible. It caught me out a couple of times while I was testing but I assure you, it's definitely possible with the right timing and patience. Thanks for playing and for the feedback, this is one of my harder chambers so I'm thankful that you gave it a try.
Also, the observation room in the floor worked perfectly, I'll certainly add it in one of my next chambers, thanks.
Blue 9 Jun, 2013 @ 1:58pm
Messy chamber. I have no idea what to do and where to begin... If aperture made this chamber, they would be out of testsubjects soon it think, i died over 10 times now already. I think i have to launch myself with the cube on the elevator, which i managed to do once. Even when you time it right you mostly bump to the elevator and fall down instead of landing upon it. By doing this you have to jump over the water, i die alot this way. Maybe i do it the wrong way, but i have no idea how i should start any other way. Couldn't finish the chamber coz it bored me too much after dieing so many times and not making any progress :(
Kitt3ns 8 Jun, 2013 @ 2:56pm
This was a neat level, although the blue room was infuriating.
