1. Alt and Space are nearer WASD keys than pad 4 and pad 6. As a result you can use two hands to control it (Left for moving and Right for rotating camera and shooting). If turret rotates by using those keys you will have problems with rotating camera and shooting by mouse.

2. I built it 4 years ago and then I didn't know how to make it in wiremod ( not using vanilla )

3. I can agree that space in most games is handbrake. But you can use reverse moving (S) for braking so I decided not making it.

If you really want version with pad controls I can build it for you but you will have to wait because I haven't much time for few weeks.
