@可砸 Thanks a lot for playing! Your solution is slightly unintended, but only because the map is slightly broken - the spki-remake is definitely better than this one. Glad you enjoyed it though!
可砸 26 Feb @ 2:32am
I've played the spki remake before, so this one didn't feel too tough. Glad most parts stayed similar, hope I didn't miss any key steps. Both versions are super solid, thanks!

@mentallentil Amazing work!! There is a remake on its way now though (not by me!) that is shaping up to be quite cool... :D
mentallentil 6 Oct, 2024 @ 11:12pm
How on earth did this only take me two hours? What a fun map
Mikeastro  [author] 18 Dec, 2023 @ 12:06am
@Spider_,Dawg Hmm how strange, that should indeed work. Glad it's working now though
Spider_Dawg 17 Dec, 2023 @ 7:54pm
Well, it worked fine just now, perhaps the portals weren't placed just exactly perfect or something.
Spider_Dawg 17 Dec, 2023 @ 5:29pm
Is this normal? I can't even get past the first Moth portion, the grating is blocking the funnel.

Sorry if this is an obvious oversight.

@KatnBlack Amazing work solving this challenging puzzle :D Glad you enjoyed it!
KatnBlack 24 Sep, 2023 @ 10:41am
played a lot of puzzles at this point and this must be the best one so far, very satisfying and rewarding to solve!
Mikeastro  [author] 6 Aug, 2023 @ 5:08am
@莳韵 Thanks a lot for playing and great work solving it! Indeed, the impact of the reversed funnel was the main idea for this map :cozycrashfish: Glad you liked it!
莳韵 5 Aug, 2023 @ 6:56pm
Excellent pure logic puzzle! I was stuck here for a long time and watched playthrough. I like how the reversed funnel changed the first part.

@SpiderLucas15 Amazing work solving this very tough puzzle :D Glad you enjoyed!
SpL15 20 Jul, 2023 @ 4:07pm
I was so surprised I solved this one that I had to play it twice. Another fantastic map!

Upon watching the intended solution, I'm so mad that I did an unnecessary cube throw/drop (not that it was complicated to pull off, but really unnecessary).
Mikeastro  [author] 4 Mar, 2023 @ 3:58am
@Calimero I think you are correct; an oversight from my part indeed means that that button is completely unnecessary! Great work solving it :D If I'm correct, your solution should only be a tiny bit different from my intended route, as the button was supposed to be single use anyway
@E L Y T R O N Thank you so much for the high praise! Admittedly I got really lucky with the way this map turned out; everything just happened to fall into place for me. Excellent work solving it though! It's unfortunate that you couldn't get your map to work but I'm certain that you've learnt a lot from the experience :cozycrashfish:
E L Y T R O N 4 Mar, 2023 @ 12:31am
I know I said "Oof" earlier, but I couldn't get this set-up out of my head so I have tried to tackle this as my entry for your remake contest. Don't think I can come up with a way to add more beyond the Moth room, but I just wanted to say this is a VERY challenging and very incredible map. After trying and failing to make something like Butterfly myself, I have immense respect for you.
小狗不许叫! 25 Feb, 2023 @ 6:21pm
Hi,Mike.I solved it and then became confused when think of the button cancelled the laser block.I didn‘t use it at all,and I didn’t use any wacky moves.Really confused about how it works in the intended solution.(as my area can‘t get access to those sites)
E L Y T R O N 10 Feb, 2023 @ 9:22pm
Oof
Mr Fab 14 Apr, 2022 @ 4:37am
Great logic and great moves ! The only thing bad was me :steamfacepalm: Favorited !
SunnyOst 23 Nov, 2021 @ 11:51am
I wouldn't call it broken. It's just options for any style of playthrough ;)
Mikeastro  [author] 23 Nov, 2021 @ 11:48am
@SunnyOst Thanks for playing! This map is indeed a little broken in some places, as has been recently and less resently discovered. Perhaps I should remake it some day, or simply update it to get rid of some unnecessary and unintended little thingies
SunnyOst 23 Nov, 2021 @ 7:26am
I also never used the laser field, except I sucked myself in after the reflector and jumped into one the raised walls in the middle to get back. I'm glad to see none of the nonsensical timing&rng solutions I used before that are intended :3
klaus.sfc01 13 Nov, 2021 @ 7:55am
awesome classic map :)
molecules du mal 5 Nov, 2021 @ 12:54pm
not exploits just slightly fickle
molecules du mal 5 Nov, 2021 @ 12:50pm
I did a few things I didn't see in other runs. don't know if they were cheating
Mikeastro  [author] 22 Oct, 2021 @ 12:33am
@PieCreeper12 Thanks! I composed this track myself; you can find it as part of my Portal 2 music package (see my profile for a link). Originally, this track was adapted from one of the tracks on my album "Irrational Points", called "Suspense". You can listen to that for free on either my bandcamp or, if you have it, on Spotify :]
PieCreeper 21 Oct, 2021 @ 7:24pm
Woah. What is the name of the music?
Mikeastro  [author] 4 Apr, 2021 @ 10:04am
@Towelie Clegane Wow! Indeed, you solved it perfectly clean without using that button! I can't believe nobody has found that in all the time this map has been up o_O Thanks a lot for sharing your video! I guess it would be better if the button be removed entirely then. I'm glad you liked the puzzle!
Towelie Clegane 4 Apr, 2021 @ 9:32am
While solving mirror symmetry, i realized the similarities with the logic in this one so i came back here and applied all the skills and knowledge mirror symmetry brought me :D
Its basically the same thing ; clever portal swaps
Towelie Clegane 4 Apr, 2021 @ 9:29am
Joric playthrough is outdated, the puzzle doesnt seem to be the same, theres an extra fizzler.
Libbybapa's one is basicly like mine but with extra steps
Towelie Clegane 4 Apr, 2021 @ 9:16am
wow ive just seen the lapidas solution you mentioned. its amazing to see people finding different routes like that to what seems at first to be an impossible puzzle. i think the solution i posted is free of exploit and elegant enough, what do you think ?
Mikeastro  [author] 4 Apr, 2021 @ 8:52am
@Towelie Clegane Hmm, interesting. Would it perchance be the same as the exploit found by lapicidas a few comments ago? If not, I would indeed be very interested to see it!
Towelie Clegane 4 Apr, 2021 @ 7:29am
I was messing up with that puzzle again and i realized there is a way to solve this easier than the play through posted on the puzzle description, without cheating. A way that does not make any use of the button that shuts down the red laser field. Im curious to know if you knew about it and if yes, why you chose to keep the button. If not, ill gladly show it.
Mikeastro  [author] 4 Feb, 2021 @ 10:15am
@Talisac Thank you so much :D I'm very happy to hear that you enjoyed it. Excellent work figuring everything out, it's quite a beast indeed :]
Talisac 4 Feb, 2021 @ 8:47am
Well, that was a hard puzzle! The first half is quite "easy", lot of steps but straight forward, but the second part was hard to figure (when I first get 2 cubes in top area, I really thought I was almost done... hahaha x_x) Nice test, where you use, re-use, use again same and same things; great design!
Mikeastro  [author] 2 Dec, 2020 @ 3:12pm
@lapicidas Thank you so much for the kind words :D It really means a lot, coming from such an amazing player like you.
And thank you very much for the video! Very sneaky, dropping down into those ''return path'' surfaces like that :P Clever - I should patch that some day, but oh well, I might be too lazy for that :]
lapicidas 2 Dec, 2020 @ 3:01pm
If you feel like doing an extraordinary puzzle again and there is currently nothing good in the workshop then you have to look at the collection of @Mikeastro. You can always find a jewel there. Like this one, It's a tough nut to crack, but everything is logical and it's also a lot of fun to figure it out. Big compliments, also to @Atom who provided the template version with "Moth".

I even found an alternative route in the last third of the map. A solution in which you only change the funnel once and the button that opens the laser field is also not required.
Here is the unintended path (video starts when you pull up the cube to the exit area):

@Burning You can't comment on my profile? Sorry about that, I must have messed up the settings... Anyway, thank you for your comment and congrats on solving Reverberate (I still haven't played it myself :p). I agree that generally time spent and difficulty are strongly correlated, but the "slope" of this correlation can vary quite a bit from person to person. Also, this summer I released a joint work with Leomievs, a map called Isotope, which I dare say is an order of magnitude more complex than this one. If this one is 9/10, that one would fly off the scale... but yeah, difficulty ratings are a pain because it is so subjective and people's scales are so different. At least it is an indication of what to expect, I suppose :]
Burning 26 Nov, 2020 @ 10:04pm
I was gonna make this comment on your profile, but that didn't seem possible, so it's here. Almost a year ago you suggested a way to find some hard maps, so, thanks for that, and since I don't like spending a long time on a single level it has taken a long time to have the motivation to complete one of them, that being Reverberate by HankyMueller. A couple hours spread over the year in about 30 minute increments. And I think I'd rate that one a 10/10 and this map maybe 9/10 then, or 9.5/10, since I prefer leaving a good amount of room for rating easy maps, really hard maps are much rarer. If essentially no map could be rated 10/10 then it's like reverse Spinal Tap, instead of going up to 11 you only go up to 9, haa. And yeah, sometimes maps take different lengths of time, but I find the correlation between time spent and difficulty to be a strong one.
bullfrog 26 Sep, 2020 @ 12:17am
Still an absolutely brilliant puzzle - on a par with 'Vector', imho.
Mikeastro  [author] 28 May, 2020 @ 1:08pm
I think you need the command sv_player_collide_with_laser 0
Towelie Clegane 28 May, 2020 @ 1:01pm
how is that done ?
Mikeastro  [author] 26 May, 2020 @ 12:54pm
@Towelie Clegane Excellent work! I'm glad you enjoyed it. And yeah, it used to be a little trickier than it is today to disable laser collision, sadly. You can always disable it using the console :]
Towelie Clegane 26 May, 2020 @ 7:44am
wow that was fun. finally found what seemed impossible to me. laser collision tho, ouch
Towelie Clegane 23 May, 2020 @ 5:50am
i tought so but since it has worked first shot at some point i was wondering if it wasnt some weird coded mechanism. anyway thanks for your quick answer
Mikeastro  [author] 23 May, 2020 @ 5:06am
@Towelie Clegane All the required moves are easy to execute and completely reliable. Moving the laser cube with the funnel and hoping it lands in such a way that it lines up with a receiver is quite unreliable, as you've experienced, so it is not necessary to do this to solve the puzzle :]
Towelie Clegane 23 May, 2020 @ 4:59am
does solution includes the trick of moving the cube in the tracktor beam, from the elevator side, to have it set into the eye catcher of the elevator, while always standing on the elevator side . sometimes it worked first shot and sometimes it doesnt work so im confused
Dark Rozen 9 May, 2020 @ 7:13pm
About 1/4 way I think, going to progress later, this map is fun :)
Mikeastro  [author] 28 Nov, 2019 @ 5:04pm
Personally, a 10/10 difficulty level would be any map that I can't solve, no matter how long I would think about it. Therefore any map that I have solved, I can only rate at most a 9/10. The well-known author Hanky Mueller has two maps of his rated 9/10, but I have not played those yet. Another known author of very hard maps is Libbybapa, whose 8/10 maps are generally real mind benders. Also I would always recommend the map Facade by stract and RedSilencer, because that is one of the best hard puzzles ever made. Also I would like to remark that different people can average very different solving times; everyone plays at their own pace, so it is hard to compare just by the time. It is also possible that one solves a harder map quicker than an easier map sometimes; that just happens. Also I think part of your, or anyone's, solving time on this map was due to the sheer length of the solution itself. Anyway, this is all I can say for now. Hopefully it makes some kind of sense
Burning 28 Nov, 2019 @ 2:02pm
Yeah I assume the difficulty rating doesn't go in a straight line, I only meant 20% of the scale, not 20% of the maps, but even still, that would be such a massively steep curve. Who is even making the hypothetical 9/10 or 10/10 difficulty levels? I wanna know even just to try it out (unless they're some precision move nonsense, but I'm assuming the scale is about the logic). I'm only new to your levels, not new in general since I already have about 700 chambers solved, going through many of the advanced levels that creators put out. Only a few have been harder this one. And if a 7/10 map means spending two hours on it do they spend 20 hours non-stop on a 10/10? And there being enough levels like that to earn a whole rating point just to themselves? It would be less puzzling if people were saying that they solved this is half an hour, but apparently they're taking much longer, or even needing hints. Although you of course didn't write those comments, I'm just wondering aloud.
