We played it a few times on DE. Just need to find the map and paste it in the DE directory for it to work.

Guys, if it has nothing to do with the balkans in the late 14th century or early 15th century its better you discuss it in private chat.

@jwj5787_Rook

And the American flag isn't a symbol of death and destruction for indigenous peoples, or the flag of the United Kingdom the same for African, Aboriginal, Boer, or other respective oppressed peoples? I've had this as my profile picture for years, and I will do as I wish. Many flags represent Imperialism and oppression, it just depends on if you're going to be a bitch about it: hence in my case, I'm an Ashkenazi Jew - but you won't see my whine and bitch whenever somebody carves a swastika into the bathroom stall or on a desk at school. I deal with it. So deal with it.

Makes sense! i can see you've put a lot of thought into it. Cheers!
Il Covenanti  [author] 21 Sep, 2018 @ 6:00am
@AEYYMAO: For balancing purposes that would be way more easy for me just to give everyone around the same strength. The problem is that this is a historical map. Making Wallachia the same strength as the Ottomans would just be very unhistorical. So the way i make the map is by giving better units, better locations, less enemies or easier objectives to weaker factions. I create incentives for players to not attack the weaker players till later in the game. You'll see that by attacking you, the Ottomans will have to do a 3 v 1 in east an almost unwinnable feat. When the Ottomans are fools and descide to attack you anyways you can just choose the hungarian side who will be more then happy to help you fight the Ottomans. Scorpions and skirmishers in the chokepoints can stall the Ottomans till help arrives.
Il Covenanti  [author] 21 Sep, 2018 @ 6:00am
The reason i put, against what was the case in that time, some Wallachian castles on the south bank of the danube is to make sure the Wallachians cant just enemy the Ottomans from the start and hold out and giving them an incentive to at least at the start seek Ottoman protection.
ÆYY 21 Sep, 2018 @ 5:43am
I'm sure it can be done, however it felt really unsatisfying to be immediately enemied by green, and forced to watch as red annihilated purp and grey to win. It might just be a personal preferance, but i like when all 8 players have around the same power level in a map that has victory conditions that involve conquering all the nearby players.
Il Covenanti  [author] 21 Sep, 2018 @ 3:40am
@AEYYMAO: Orange can be incredibly powerfull if you play it right. The best strategy with orange is to at first side with green and making him vassalise you. In most cases he will allow you for your help to take Temes. Then the only thing you need to do is sit back while yellow gets attacked by green, teal or grey and then take his minor forts from him. When all is done some petards will do the tick destroying the green castle. Orange is forced to play a good diplo game and to guard his chokepoints well. Given your kingmaker position between the hungarians and the ottomans and your access to many chokepoints, extra scorpions and all fully upgraded counters against the both factions orange is a real threat to be be reckoned with. If you want more proof i can give you the names of players who already won games with orange including myselve ;)
ÆYY 20 Sep, 2018 @ 6:19pm
Orange seems really underpowered. Even if you wall up and mass scorpions, green can basically force you to stay in your base the whole game by pushing you early.

The profile picture you are using is the Rising Sun Flag. You must never use or represent this flag under any circumstances! This flag symbolizes Japanese imperialism during World War 2 and carries a similar meaning as Nazi's Swastika. Using this flag is disrespectful to the countries and people who have suffered a devastating loss by the Japanese soldiers (ex. The rape of Nanking). I urge you to change your profile picture to something else.

Is this a reference to the Treaty of Westphalia skit?
Il Covenanti  [author] 19 Sep, 2018 @ 6:05pm
@Danwar: Like i say before, the map zooms in on the Balkans and the kingdom of Hungary and fact of the matter is that the ERE had no influence on the politics of the area during this time period. When the Byzantines lost Sofia and later all of Bulgaria in 1385 to the Ottomans they stopped having an impact on the politics of the Balkans. Bosnia on the other hand was at his greatest extent in 1396 and was located quite central in the region. The king of Bosnia at that time was family of Sigismund and a tributary of the Ottomans they also got involved a lot in internal Hungarian politics, by supporting an Angevin candidate for the throne or by invading Slavonia.
Il Covenanti  [author] 19 Sep, 2018 @ 6:05pm
Natural defences are basicly the main reason Bosnia managed to remain independent for all this time since they were basicly surrounded by the Dinaric Alps. The siege of Constantinople would only find place about 55 years later so i dont quite see how this is relevant for the argument.

I think that if you look at who was the most influencial in that time period and in that region the answer has to be the Bosnian Kingdom
Danwar 19 Sep, 2018 @ 5:46pm
I would be inclined to agree with you except that, had the Hungarians won against the Ottomans, the Eastern Roman Empire would certainly have been strengthened by the resulting peace, perhaps even back into a local power with a good Emperor - and, plus, the city of Constantinople was still a crucial, naturally well-defended area - and one of the Empire's hopes during the siege of Constantinople was for a Hungarian force to smash the Ottoman camp from behind.

Also, I fail to see how Bosnia was somehow more important than the ERE. It held barely more territory than the Empire and had none of the natural defensive advantages that the Empire's remaining territories did. In addition, both Venice and Genoa sent a good amount of help in the Siege of Constantinople in a last-dich effort to stop Ottoman dominance of the region, so I find the ERE just as important as if not more important than Bosnia. Correct me if I'm wrong, of course.
Il Covenanti  [author] 19 Sep, 2018 @ 5:34pm
@Danwar: First off the map or the number of allowed players dont allow for the inclusion of the Eastern Roman Empire. Second this map is about the political balance of the Balkans and more specific the kingdom of Hungaria. The Byzantines had in 1400 no influence in the Balkans anymore and for historical and practical reasons i left them out. I was of the opinion it was way more important to include nations like Venice and Austria who had at that time a strong influence on politics in the region. If you wanna continue this discussion feel free to message me in chat. I can assure you i am quite 'educated' about the subject. ;)
Il Covenanti  [author] 19 Sep, 2018 @ 5:19pm
@Metal Arms: The map is crafted to lean on both villagers and castle tributes to get an eco. This is for balancing purposes and makes the map more strategical to play. If you want more info about this mechanic you can always add me and i'll happely elaborate.
Danwar 19 Sep, 2018 @ 4:52pm
Why is the ERE (Or Byzantium for the uneducated) not in this scenario? Yes, they suffered severely at the hands of the Ottomans but still held Thessalonica and Constantinople, both major cities, and Constantinople's Theodosian Walls were a force to be reckoned with.
Metal Arms 19 Sep, 2018 @ 4:02pm
How do you increase villager amounts without the spam of "you have 26 villagers delete some". You need a decent amount to get any sort of eco going.
Il Covenanti  [author] 19 Sep, 2018 @ 5:22am
Playing it in singleplayer is not recomended but i guess its possible. Make sure to lock teams then or all the AI will declare war on you. You can also manualy swap the teams if you want a different experience. AI will go crazy though so on your own risk ;)
egonzalez.ieu2013 19 Sep, 2018 @ 4:02am
Can you play this single player? Because it looks great

Finally someone making a Diplo map about the balkans... I thought the world didn't even acknowledge our existence 11

As a Bosnian myself, looking forward to trying it out when my uni exams end
Il Covenanti  [author] 15 Sep, 2018 @ 8:02pm
Well not after the Battle at Kosovo. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Battle_of_Kosovo
While Serbia indeed has an impressive past this era was probably their lowest point being first divided in several smal states and the annexed by the Ottoman Empire. Giving them a place in this scenario would just not be accurate.

Well its history. i didnt include de Kingdom of Serbia because well first there werent enough player slots and second because the Kingdom of Bosnia at that time reached his highest point. In 1496 it was a powerplayer in the Balkans and while still under great Ottoman influence a force to be reconed with. I recomend you read more on this interesting topic here: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kingdom_of_Bosnia

gemsoccer.

Go to singleplayer, change maptype from random or deathmatch to scenario. Pick this scenario, change your colour, adjust the civs or load the scenario again and then you can singleplay with everyone. Although the map isnt meant to be played in singleplayer. Try and join a multiplayer lobby hosting this map.

francibigio,

The AI attack you because the teams are not locked and they find no other enemies. Its an AI code from aoe2. That should not be a problem though since the map is a multiplayer scenario and is not meant to be played singleplayer. If you wanna play it singleplayer though you should change the diplo status of the AI players in editor so they all have an enemy to fight or lock the diplo. Although i must say the map wont be very fun without other human players. Try and join a session in the lobby if you wanna play or host one.

I am not able to choose any other civ other than #1.
2 - 8 don't give me an option to play them.
What am I doing wrong?
francibigio 13 Sep, 2018 @ 5:39pm
i have a problem with diplomacy. After the battle, orange, red, prple and grey become my enemies and if i pay tribute to them they come allies and then again enemies. If i buy electors i should become an ally of grey. It's not happens and if I pay tributes they become ally and then enemy again

fantastic map!
Il Covenanti  [author] 12 Sep, 2018 @ 12:16pm
In lieu of answering all your grievances:

- The original castle in the first 15 minutes of the game is named only Buda Castle. The model of the castle was based on the old castle standing in 1396 of Stephen of Anjou and the church was based on Székesfehérvár Basilica. The City of Pest (with the towncenter named City of Pest aswell) was based on the old city plan during the reign of Bela IV. The name Budapest is given after 15 minutes ingame to remove confusion under the players and make players able to build a resource castle inside the walls of Pest aswell.
Il Covenanti  [author] 12 Sep, 2018 @ 12:16pm
- Szeged castle was an imortant castle guarding the way to Buda and Pest. I wanted to recreate that ingame. If you compare the lay of Szeged with Belgrade and Temes you will see thats its quite accurately situated, although sometimes the shape of the castle can give the impression that the castle is located more north. If you ever tried to make a historically accurate map you will see that making the game playable and preserving the exact location of historical castles is quite hard. Sometimes you will have to compromise a little, although i feel that in the case of Szeget the location is still quite accurate.
Il Covenanti  [author] 12 Sep, 2018 @ 12:15pm
- Same argument as above. Zagreb ingame is a large city making it almost consume all of northern Croatia. Again i must point out that placement and functionality are mostely a compromise. But again i must insist that the placement is as accurate as i could get it.
Il Covenanti  [author] 12 Sep, 2018 @ 12:15pm
- I dont get your point here. If we take a standard map of the balkans you'll see that Budapest, Szeged and Belgrade are almost on the same south axis. With Szeged a little bit more to the east. I tried to preserve that axis as well as i could. Dividing Belgrade, for historical accuracy and gameplay, made it a little broader then it actualy was but the layout of the city and the citadel of Nándorfehérvár was based on historical maps of the city in 1382. The city was fortified by Sigismund but those fortifications would only be completed after the failed crusade of Nicopolis. The name is Belgrade ingame because the Hungarian name (Nándorfehérvár) is just to difficult for players to pronounce or write in chat. I went here for clarity over historical accuracy. One of the reasons also many of the names aren't written in the original archaic language. Like Sofija, Zágráb, ... . As a map creator i need to think about convenience of the player aswell.
Il Covenanti  [author] 12 Sep, 2018 @ 12:15pm
In summary: I thank you for your reply but i think these 'incorrect things' can easely be explained by the few compromises necessary to make the map enjoyable and playable for all players.

Greetings Covenanti

Leninova 12 Sep, 2018 @ 10:23am
There are a few things which are incorrect:

-Budapest didn't exist until 1873. There were 3 parts which fusion: Buda, Pest, and Óbuda

-Szeged is pretty far from Budapest, down to the south. We are talking about more than 150 kilometers... the 2 cites were never next to or even close to each other. The position of Szeged rather refers to Jászberény's

- Zagreb is too close to Budapest

- Belgrad's place is incorrect, too close to Szeged as well the direction. Also, Belgrad was called Nándorfehérvár at that time
