@IhmeHihhuli - I've been out of things for a bit, but CSL2 has me pretty hyped, and I'm hoping to bring the spirit of these original maps to that game when I get the opportunity! Thank you for the kind words :D And I'll check out BonBonB's review, those were always a joy :)

Just watched BonBonB's recent re-review of this map and oh boy, the screenshots do not do justice to the map! The map is a work of art, absolutely stunning tree placement. Sure, it's a heavy map but it is a true marvel to look at!

That being said, I think all of your work is of incredible quality (maps & assets alike). Just thought I'd leave a comment to remind you and possibly brighten your day :)

@jesserockwell26 oops I thought I replied, must have forgot to send it! Anyway, awesome :D I really like how you used the Japanese themed assets to create a very different city than some of the others I've seen on this map.

Probably the best map available. Decided to play this one with budgeting on for a real challenge. Coming along nicely. Well done on the map!

@djtim_3000 That's great! I'm really glad the map worked for you. Your city has a very authentic look to it. I especially like the harbor and the suburbs reaching into the hills behind it :)

Your maps are amazing! I've just finished a city using Gonti Bay. The detailing in the map made an amazing setting for a medium sized city.

@djoes I learned that lesson when I tried to play it myself (learned it with Cannon Cape too). I usually take a more minimalist approach with my newer maps, but I figured I'd leave the detailing on my old ones for those who enjoy that style.

seems like a good map but its destroying my framerate beyond playable

too many trees. too many grass, too many rocks

you should let people places them at their own freewill rather then overload the map with existing trees in the 50 000+ and some much grass and rock everywhere

let people do their own things and add them by themselves

This maps looks amazing, like this is probably the one of the best looking maps I've found.

A bit of a dumb question though, is there a way to get rid of the grass props? They seem to stay when building roads and structures on them which makes it so the grass covers everything in the town.

I'm just getting back into C:S, and as a Victorian who misses Oregon and wants to make the perfect Oregon Coast city, this made my day. Good to see more lovingly crafted PNW stuff on the workshop.

25 or 81 tiles view from above please? :)

This map is perfect for my next build. For me personally I was looking for something like this, but with less sea and more building area. However, it looks too good to pass. Thank you for uploading it.

Great job, Im trying to create a good map for the city ive already planned on paper and im using yours as a big inspiration because... Damn it's looking so good! Especially the details!

Thank you! and thank you for your feedback @lukegrossmiller. Reducing the tree count in the outer areas is certainly in the cards, especially if I do a performance minded map revision with fewer dependencies.
lukegrossmiller 20 Sep, 2018 @ 11:48am
I'm guessing I'll need to turn down settings a lot on my low-end computer to play this map with even a small-sized city. I think that an improvement would be to turn a lot of the far out terrain into bigger mountains with less trees because that would probably improve performance on my machine. Also, uising some of the higher peaks with snow and snow-covered trees would look very cool without affecting performance so much I'm guessing.

At first, I also found that the surface rock LODs looked boxy unless I zoomed way in close. I fixed that by adjusting settings using the 'adaptive prop visibility' mod.

Dear Greyflame, I love the detailed realism of this Gonti Bay map! Very impressive!! In fact, I think this is the best map i've ever come across in CS! Nice work with the different texture choices and blending I see happening especially along the coastline.

I live in Eugene, so nice to see the PNW represented. Fantastic job. This is a model for all CS map-makers to look at for an example.
