Foxes Aren't Suicidal

For anyone who still wants this, but wants it working with 1.5, you need to change how it applies the patch.

Select the mod in the mod list, and then Advanced > Open Folder. In here route to Patches and open the .xml in your text editor of choice

Locate and change the following:
Class="PatchOperationInsert" to Class="PatchOperationReplace" (line 5)
/Defs/ThingDef[@Name="ThingBaseFox"]/race/predator to /Defs/ThingDef[@Name="ThingBaseFox"]/race/maxPreyBodySize (line 6)

Save this file. Then go to the root folder for the mod > About and edit about.xml to include
<supportedVersions><li>1.5</li></supportedVersions> under the <url></url> elements.

The previous version simply added the element onto foxes, but it seems they now already have it (set to 0.5 by default), and this mod was adding the element again, causing the exception.

@Thundercraft, let me know if you ever want to take this over again.

Please help all the foxes are dying and this hasn't updated
Sasha Fox #SaveTF2 24 Mar, 2020 @ 6:24am
Same as AlyFox I must have non-suicidal foxes!
Slinger 18 Mar, 2020 @ 8:44am
Also wondering if a 1.1 update is planned.
nhatanh0475 17 Mar, 2020 @ 9:17am
In Rimworld, every thing can be manhunting.
NamelessArcuve 27 Feb, 2020 @ 5:09pm
Now my foxes are dying in a battle with a rat. XD
Alyfox 27 Feb, 2020 @ 2:08am
Will this work for 1.1? As a fox myself, I must have non-suicidal foxes :O

I just pushed a very minor update to correct a yellow error. This should have no impact on games, either way. It just removes a harmless error. Specifically, I changed <targetVersion> to <supportedVersions>:
<targetVersion> in mod About.xml is deprecated! Use <supportedVersions> tag instead. (example: <supportedVersions><li>1.0</li></supportedVersions>)

Nice mod and realistic mod but I always found it funny the things that people will pick to consider unreal in Rimworld.
Canyon 29 Dec, 2019 @ 11:03pm
heh, thats rimworld for ya
McDonald's Triple Cheese Burger 23 Aug, 2019 @ 8:15pm
I saw this mod before, and thought that I didn't need it.

But that SOON changed after one of my best melee colonist with a knife lost (Colonist was fully healed and had nothing wrong) got completely destroyed but a single fox (Who was also fully healed and had nothing wrong) after the fox hunted him for food.

Thank you for creating this mod!

Probably the best mod I didn't know I wanted. It goes great with my 187 red foxes as I've had plenty of them die trying to hunt things like bears or whatever they have no chance of fighting. :fhappy::dwarven:
Samir Al-Hayjid 18 Apr, 2019 @ 4:37am
if possible, could there could be an event where foxes break open kitchens or rooms with farm animals/eggs as foxes are notorious for doing this. of course im not sure if it is possible as i am by no means a modder but it would be pretty cool. Thanks!
AmbiguousMonk 28 Dec, 2018 @ 9:02am
Oh, awesome! I really like that change and I'm pretty sure Vanilla Animals Overhaul Reloaded doesn't change the fox's diet, so that's awesome. Thank you for getting back to me!
Thundercraft  [author] 28 Dec, 2018 @ 3:43am
@AmbiguousMonk It also changes foxes so that, instead of being strict meat-eaters, they are omnivores and egg-eaters like they are in real life. Though, admittedly, adjusting the maxPreyBodySize to something realistic was this mod's main purpose.

"Vanilla Animals Overhaul Reloaded" sounds interesting. I'll have to give it a closer look.
AmbiguousMonk 21 Dec, 2018 @ 12:14pm
Is this mod made redundant by "Vanilla Animals Overhaul Reloaded" since it decreases the {maxPreyBodySize} of foxes to their own body size ("All Foxes have now a "maxPreyBodySize" attribute up to their relative own body size attribute") or does this mod take it even further/do something different?
Mr.Muffin 13 Nov, 2018 @ 8:25am
great name XD
Nakeela 11 Nov, 2018 @ 11:18am
@Dr@ag0n They should be able to considered Turtles, Rabbits and even Chinchillas can go on manhunting rampages. Mahunting is an entirely different command string
404 GLaDOS 11 Nov, 2018 @ 1:37am
@Give me medic bag
There are reports of squirrels attacking humans though -_-
Dr@g0n 10 Nov, 2018 @ 1:03pm
before i use this, they still can go on manhunting rages like all the other critters on the rim?
ATR 10 Nov, 2018 @ 12:09pm
The "manhunter" events are random Rim-based psychic phenomena; foxes rarely *hunt*, yet alone anything the same size or bigger than them.

I'd appreciate it if this mod could be made for the lynx too, as they never hunt people (they are even more inclined to give people a wide berth than foxes do) and also suffer the same AI quirk in Rimworld.
GunPingu 10 Nov, 2018 @ 10:59am
oh no, the squirrels are attacking, whatever shall i do
Spacer 10 Nov, 2018 @ 10:39am
Manhunt animals exist for a reason. They are made when a psychic frequency of their type drives them insane. No one reads in-game pop-ups? :-I
Inconspicuous Man 10 Nov, 2018 @ 8:44am
@ POPPO Manhunt is a mental freak of nature basically. They are not right in the head and will ignore everything to kill humans for some reason. Same reasoning as Pyros; why the fuck would you endanger yourself and others? Cause you's a dummy.
SRandom 10 Nov, 2018 @ 4:42am
but manhunt rabbits still exist)))
Tim 10 Nov, 2018 @ 4:03am
After rimworld I feel like they let a good meal get away.
WolfofArc 10 Nov, 2018 @ 2:11am
i did note that in the vanilla, foxes dont just target any human, they opt for weak old frail or already injured people. anytime i got someone with asthma, at some point in time a fox will attack them. appreciate the mod, hope the note helps with making it any better if it can
Barick 9 Nov, 2018 @ 9:52pm
The only Fox in my current game has slaughterd the local wolf population that was located around my base. I might need to tame or kill her now that I know they can attack Humans.
Zee Adolf 9 Nov, 2018 @ 8:38pm
"For the sake of realism" Boi, that fox is trying to "kill himself" on a gallows post, those are for hanging OTHER creatures, you can't hang yourself on that without somebody to pull the lever and open the trapdoor.
Vanwood 9 Nov, 2018 @ 6:42pm
If any animal is cornered they will attack, but in the game they were going out to hunt the bigger animals which is why it was weird
Daemon 9 Nov, 2018 @ 5:58pm
Great mod! Just wanted to point out that the fox in the video is still a pup. A cornered or injured adult fox can do a bit of damage and will attack prey larger than them. :steamhappy:
DonSwanson 9 Nov, 2018 @ 5:57pm
haha this is a hoot
WetSocks 9 Nov, 2018 @ 5:45pm
WA-PA-PA-PA-PA-PA-POW!
炎文宇 9 Nov, 2018 @ 5:34pm
But this story does not happen on the earth.
p3st|cIdE 9 Nov, 2018 @ 5:30pm
But now where will I get all my free meat and hide? Stupid predators provide opportunities!
Touch Fluffy Tail 9 Nov, 2018 @ 4:38pm
10 out of 10.
Would use again, fo Fox's sake.
Wolfram 9 Nov, 2018 @ 4:24pm
omg thank you so much for the link to that video, the fox still visits them! <3
Ashdroid 9 Nov, 2018 @ 4:22pm
The best mod that I didn't realize I needed!
Lstor 9 Nov, 2018 @ 2:05pm
But... but... no fox were given!
Nico Potswirler 9 Nov, 2018 @ 1:37pm

Beanloaf 9 Nov, 2018 @ 12:29pm
this mod was made for me
[NLP] frank_mauser 9 Nov, 2018 @ 11:23am
i´m concerned as to where you got the picture from
Aphiliam 9 Nov, 2018 @ 10:07am
Ignore all the terrible comments. I love that you care this passionately about foxes and it's a great mod.
Spess Carp 9 Nov, 2018 @ 10:02am
I refuse to believe a fox could build a whole platform it can hang itself with.
Kier 9 Nov, 2018 @ 9:30am
what are you, a furry?
kush wizard gaming 9 Nov, 2018 @ 9:16am
there are man-hunting rabbits in the game, fox attacks are not immersion-breaking
czpetr 9 Nov, 2018 @ 7:57am
I love that picture.
