I hate to be dumb, but how do I start it? It's all loaded and I can go shoot up the ships, but there is very little "attack" and even less surprise. What am I doing wrong?.

Being from Hawaii, I think you used the modern map of Oahu, as I can recognize the Ford Island Bridge and Honolulu International's reef runway.
