@sparr
Just wondering if you've got any intentions of updating this little gem?
sparr  [author] 29 Jan, 2019 @ 7:07pm
@aronenark sure, but that same exploit exists in all the other mods like veinminer. I could add an option to only select visible tiles, but that would get really tedious.

For those who were commenting earlier, the advantage of this is that you can see which tiles have overhead mountain and NOT mine under them. In this way you can prevent infestations. This is far better than mousing over tiles one at a time as they are revealed in order to figure out if they are safe to mine.

Found this thanks to the reddit Rimworld Discord, is EXACTLY what I wanted!

does it stop bug infestations?

1) Does mining the roofs provide anything? Stone chunks?
2) Does mining a thick roof remove it or change it to thin roof?
3) Like with Veinminer can you also choose to just mine specific roof squares?

This could be used as a minor exploit to find locations hidden inside of mountain ranges.
sparr  [author] 30 Nov, 2018 @ 6:25pm
It doesn't actually remove the roof, it just designates which rock tiles to mine based on their roof.

so how does this work? I set a roof to be mined will the pawn climb up and mine it or do i also need to mine the mountain beneath?
sparr  [author] 29 Nov, 2018 @ 9:29pm
Thanks for pointing that out.

Hey I think you're accidentally including the .git files in the download.

THIS IS AMAZING! You are a scholar and a gentleman.

Thanks for the quick reply, I can't even explain how excited I am for this. I always get infgestations when I make a pass through mountains. Now, with luck, I'll be able to use these "valleys." Thanks for sharing the mod, I'm sure many will appreciate this functionality.
sparr  [author] 29 Nov, 2018 @ 12:01pm
@Teholb that is exactly the primary purpose of this mod. And yes, most mountains have lots of edge tiles with no roof at all, and large connected spaces of thin roof throughout the mountain.

This makes me wish for proper z-height map support. Previously I had thought that all tiles interior to the mountains were "thick roof." From the image you have uploaded, does this mean that mountains aren't a universal thickness throughout? I never realized this was a thing! Does this mean that if I used Roofminer, I could effectively avoid building under thick roof areas and avoid infestation events? Sorry for wordvomit, this looks like an AWESOME mod!
