Could you add a patrol craft that equips only 1 hanagr and 1 point defence.
you would probably want to make them equip a unike fighter wing to stop the from carrying modded superpowered fighters

I'd be no stranger than having Carriers from another mod and using Carrier and Supercarrier parts. That said to lean on real world classes Cutteris pretty common.

And yeah not all shipsets play well with mods that add new ship classes, for example the Macross mod ship classes and Gundam ships don't get along.

Gunship is used repeatedly as a ship section name, hence I didn't call it that, it would cause confusion between what was the intended purpose of a ship and the class of the ship.

It's interesting that it is working for one shipset and not the other... hmmmmmmm.

Not compatible with UNSC ships, also as a side thought it'd probably make more sense to call the ship class Gunship rather than Patroller.

Works with the Gundam mod/ships.

These ships make great cannon fodder!

@kevinhann

The idea of the patroller is to have something that you can build very quickly early game to just dissuade pirates from spamming your systems. I envision you deploying them in a system to slow down portential attackers, not necessary stopping them. That is definitely what the corvettes as for. Unfortunately in the early game you have virtually no real ship options, every costs the same and takes 2 months to build regardless of fitting.

The Patrol Ship has need been amended to cost only 0.5 fleet slots and has had its evasion bonus reduced from 75% to 65% in an attempt to make its more desirable for use while not making it overpowered.

But in terms of pirate control the corvettes are still the better proposition as they provide 2x protection at lower than 2x cost?
CaptainKampfkeks 12 Dec, 2018 @ 12:36pm
Mostly just patrolling your trade routes, I'd imagine.

I have a question regarding balance, it's mostly aimed at other people using this mod.

I love the general concept, but I don't feel the incentive to use the patrol ship over corvettes. It doesn't look cost efficient for me - how do you guys utilize it and in what situations do you find it more useful than just relying on corvettes?

Yeah - only showing if you have vanilla shipsets. If you use Kurogane with something like the Assault Boarding Ship mod, it still displays the modded boarding ships because they use the transport/colony ship model, rather than a corvette. Just wondering out loud really - if you had your patrol ship use the science ship model instead of the corvette, it might work with the custom ship sets that only have the one ship model for a whole class like Kurogane. Plus it might be kinda cool to get some more use out of the science ship model - visually you never really see a science ship outside the designer anyways.

I am not sure what you mean by this?

Are you implying the ship is not appearing as intended ingame? Or that it is only showing when in use with the vanilla shipsets?

If it is the latter then that is correct as ship classes needs species specific graphic assets in order to show. Since I do not have access to said assets I can not code or include them outside of the vanilla ones.

The mod however as far as I am aware does allow shipset modders to access the new class to make a graphic assets for, therefore it can be used in conjuction with other shipsets, which would have to be produced by other modders.

Seems to only work for vanilla ship sets, not the custom models - I suspect it's because it's looking for one corvette model in particular, but a lot of modded ship sets only have one model per class so you end up with invisible patrol ships. One alternative would be to make the patrol ship a section variant of the science ship, you could also have other variants like scout ship etc. There was another mod that made civilian ships available in the ship designer - I think it had a few problems with auto-update, but I kinda think a bit more ability to re-purpose the civilian ships into different roles would be pretty cool.

It is a scaled down corvette but with a boost to evasion. I envisioned it's as the real life version of a small motor boat with a machine and a grenade launcher. Fast, annoying and very hard to hit but when you do it goes pop. It's meant for dropping in systems where you just need to add a present to discourage pirates.
PROBABILITYOFSUCCESSZERO  [author] 10 Dec, 2018 @ 11:57pm
It should be fairly compatible to a point. A lot of the mods files are new and aren't overrides. However that doesn't mean other ship or component mods might not interfere with it. I did my best to just and make it's as standalone as possible. If you experience issues with say NSC please let me know and I'll work on a patch for it.

I was waiting for NSC to be release before I tried to work on inbuilt support for it. I'll have a look at that this evening.
Thomas Roderick 10 Dec, 2018 @ 11:50pm
So... Basically a nerfed, but cheaper corvette?
Palynium 10 Dec, 2018 @ 5:16pm
Mod compatibility?
Oldhip 10 Dec, 2018 @ 2:10pm
Yep good stuff.
