@Eistein I believe it's primarily a safety feature, as traffic turning left at these types of intersections often has to come to a complete stop while traffic going straight on passes through.

I like these, although I find it a bit strange that you've chosen to place the striped buffer in between lanes going in the same direction... Why not next to the opposite direction?
