Posting this for anyone who had the same problems, after a few hours of troubleshooting this mod seems to be incompatiable with the "Full Loot" mod by laughingleader. When the cat dies it respawns with no armor

First, thanks for the mod.


I'm trying to use ONLY to make the cat follow Fane (I'm playing as custom and I haven't even entered Fort Joy--still on the beach on my way to recruit Fane-- can't avoid the cat before reaching the hidden alcove). I don't want any of the other stuff (don't need the cat to fight or whatever) and after the cat starts following Fane I'm going to disable the mod.

My questions:

1) As using mods disables Achievements, disabling the mod will activate Achievements again?

2) Will I still get the skill book, fluff and the other stuff even if the mod is disabled after escaping Fort Joy? I'm trying to avoid weird bugs later in the game.

I just want to play as if the cat belongs to Fane from the start.

uhh well i found a bug, If you get the cat outside of fort joy summon it then put on a collar you'll have 2 cats but if you then use the whistle you'll have 2 ai controlled cats one is the modded cats with armor, magic armor and skills while the other one is still just the cat but has an infinite duration. Even if one of the 2 die you can dupe them again to have 2 again i haven't tested what happens if both die at the same time.

mods ok but the "battle cat" has no armor or m.armor thus is killed mostly in 1 (aoe) hit and does 3-5dmg... the only real use is...maybe taking 1 atk to be killed off so the players wont get atked or it uses a cc skill on an enemy that was ripped off of its armor or didnt have any... not sure if it was intended that way or if the "pet revive mod" is disturbing anything. another little thing...we saved the cat without ever reviving it (carefully walked around, managed gorunds etc) still didnt get the archivement (yes got the archivement mod on and gotten other archivements with it) if renamed with the naming wizard staff mod into your real pets name is still fun and purrrfect ;)

Interesting @velcro. I just opened the page to come ask about why we have two cats, even if no one is wearing the collar or anything. The combat kitty is amazing and frankly quite powerful, and we got it without doing anything. This made the game significantly easier unintentionally.
I'd like to see an update that fixes that, because I don't want to bother with reloading and stuff, and I do want the combat kitty once we get out of the joy. But till then it feels undeserved and also weird.

Installed this mod early into Fort Joy and saw that I was getting the combat summon "The Black Kitty" without even having purchased the collar. Nice if you want the combat summon I guess, but I only wanted the skills on a different character than the main character.

Did some testing and found that it was only happening after I asked the cat to follow someone else. If I never changed who he followed then the combat summon wouldn't appear, even with the mod installed.

I found that if I told him to follow who I wanted > saved/quit to main menu > disabled mod > loaded that same save > saved/quit to main menu again > enabled mod, that once I loaded in again the cat would still be following Lohse instead of Ifan, like I wanted, but the combat summon would no longer appear once combat started.

I need your help man. When we escaped Joy, the cat gave me the skillbook to summon him, but I forgot to learn it and must have sold it in a pinch. Is there a way to craft the book, or is there anyway to find the cat again? Please help! I'm already in Driftwood when I realized the problem.

For anyone trying to figure out how to collar the cat, put the kitty collar on your hot bar and then click on it and a dialogue box appears with options to collar the cat!

I got the collar early in Ft Joy from a vendor on the beach, and somehow I now have two black cats, one called "The Black Cat" that is passive and runs from fights and only has vitality, and one called "The Black Kitty" which matches my level, has physical and magic armor, fights for me with Scoundrel skills. Is that normal?

This is just my observation so it's anecdotal, but I must know are others reporting same issue;

When you have the fluffball out as a pet, it seems that if the cat "gets its eyes on the enemy first", the game considers that as a combat initiation, and because it's an AI controlled participant on player side, the combat thus gets to a deadlock on the very first turn locking up all actions.

Hi, if a future update happens, would it be possible to prevent the cat from triggering traps? Or maybe add the ability to tell the cat to stay put for a while? Things get pretty ugly when using a skill like Cloak&Dagger to jump over a mine field and the cat runs to catch up...right through all the mines... :(

There's a way to get the Skill book after have learned the black cat summon spell? I wish I could use/change for another PC to use the spell, the one I use as a Summoner.

I've taken notes of things you've all pointed out and plan to visit those for a patch once I get the time, which unfortunately won't be until June due to busy crunch time with work. After hours of trying to figure out where my black cat went, it appears there is a bug that when any member of the party goes back to Fort Joy after escaping, on the next save/load, the black cat+ (black kitty) disappears. I've tried leaving the summoner/owner in the hollow marshes but kitty still evaporates :(

I have exactly the same bug happening that rmfranco has; two black cats, the new one is named "black kitty" and the original is "black cat". I reloaded the save right before I noticed the issue and so far the new one hasn't reappeared. I also have "essential pets" installed which makes the cat invulnerable to the poison he loves to run through, so maybe that has something to do with it.

I think I have a bug? I just started, and found the cat, and entered Fort Joy. At some point since my last autosave, I got a 2nd cat. One is called The Black Kitty, and the other is Black Cat. Black Kitty has prompts for taking off the collar, and asking it to become a summon "again".
I just entered Fort Joy maybe half an hour ago, I don't know when or how this happened.

And I have the Collar and jar of fluff in my inventory. I can make it a spell again, but can't cast it. And the Original? Copy? ... The not-your-mod cat, is still following me.
If I could use both when the time comes, I'd live with it if I had to, but I'd rather not if I can.

Ok, I'm using another mod, that affects summons (the cat included) and my Black Cat was following me already, that mod increases summon times, when I decided to put the collar on it, I equipped it, it asked me, what I want to do, I chose summon the cat (well summoning the cat a second time should dismiss the original one and summon it in the new location) and put the collar on it, instead it summoned a second cat, now there are two cats following me, as the original wasn't unsummoned. That's a nice "bug" to have around for a change. XD Well I call it a bug, because I guess it wasn't the original idea to have two cats, was it?

@The Composer I have a strange problem with the cat. When it was following me around it had great abilities and was a great companion. Once I asked it to be a summons the only skill it has is nether swap and leap. Also out of the blue the cat showed up and it's name was Beast's kitten and I have no idea how it went to one of my companions out of the blue.

Similar to @ZKaagelnaodsa, in my last save I was unsummoning the cat as it proved to be almost OP in how much damage it was dealing and tanking. But in my current playthrough, its got far less HP and doing minimal damage. Curious if there's been a patch since then or something else.

How possible would it be to create a standalone mod (or simply add it to this mod) that will spawn the cat skill book on the Lady Vengeance?

I'm wondering because I really like the cat, but me and my friends really hate having to play through Fort Joy every time, so if we use the Joyless Beginnings mod then we miss out on getting the Cat Familiar :p

Checking my old save, at level 8 he had like 130+ armor and magic armor and 642 hp.
On my new save, he has 342 hp at level 6 and almost no skills and does like 3 damage a hit.

Checking on the stats of both, one of which seems to be getting affected by "Gear" and the other is not. What gear does the cat wear, and how does it determine what gear it's wearing? Because if I'm not mistaken the cat on one save seems to be getting gear and the other one is not.

I'm not entirely sure what's going on here, but it might be a bug. In my other game, the cat does great damage and has a lot of skills such as throwing knife and the like. I made a new game, and the cat (at level 6) is doing only 3 - 6 damage and only has jump and adrenaline. What exactly is the cat's damage scaling based on?

@Zlfercolas you click on where it says subscribe. If you have the game on steam the mod will be added to your game automatically. You'll need to enable it in menu though.

The Cat followed the Red Prince. But I send him away and have 3 other partymembers. Last Time I saw the Prince, he was a Ghost on a Ship and there was no Cat. I thought the Cat is Part of his Stoy, now I see it isn't. Any Chance to get the Cat back? =(

gotta say im really impressed with this! youve made the one mod ive been looking for for a long while and then some. Having a pet companion in combat is a mod i havent been able to find outside gm mode. Thank you so much for all your hard work!
