Nomadic Beginnings

@threethrethree When this mod came out, the description was enough to know what it added to the game. At that time, the vanilla game didn't have a nomad option, so then this mod had a purpose. It's become kind of obsolete now, but that not the author's fault (or maybe it is, if this mod was the reason the developers decided to put a nomad option in the game :P )

I get discouraged looking at the mods for something I'd like - they give little description, among other things. This one, for example, it sounds like it's just the nomad option that i already have in vanilla game. All you're doing is nomading to another spot of your choice? That's already the only way that I play. Is that all there is to this mod? If not, it should say so in the description. And i'm not downloading a mod and playing it for hours and hours in order to maybe only then find out what it's really about.

Real nice. A challenge to start from 0.

@EpileptikMonkey

I think this scenario is redundant as I think there's an option to start the game freely now.

带着一群人去你想去的地方定居,带着一群人去你想去的地方定居。
从一开始的位置开始一个全新的定居点是相当困难的(主要是因为必须运输资源)。
我建议你先造一个帐篷或一个工匠。

I see this hasn't been updated for a while, is it still Compatible with the current version of the game? (1.6.2)

nice

That's a shame. :(
frmdbl  [author] 28 May, 2019 @ 7:29am
@Sushi
I don't think this can be done.

Good mod! What would make it great, I think, is if the starter buildings cost less time to set up and recycle, and upon recycling, you'd get (almost) all the materials back. That way, the nomadic lifestyle could last much longer than just the first few minutes. :)

Absolutely love this mod. I didn't need to move far from the starting zone. However I got to 400 population and my people just stopped producing as fast. Even with the new tools that were available. It sent the city into a spiral and everyone ended up dying of starvation. Even though I was making more than enough food to sustain the 70 people left, they all ended up dying like there was the same food requirement for the 400 people.
10 out of 10 would play again.
Maybe add a river for the map?

Still having a great time with this mod. I just reached 200 population.

Still enjoying this mod- still my favorite. The two items I like are the freedom to move to another location at the start and the knowledge points not wasted on prebuilt things. I will add a tip for anyone new who wants to move a good distance away (say from the lake to the river in Forest River). Delete the stones before you have them pick up the resources.

And to frmdbl, please do not add any prebuilt items or more spears, etc. It would, I think, change your great mod to just the same as everyone else.

Love this mod! Could you make exactly the same mod but only with 1 settler to start with?
Hoppo 23 Mar, 2019 @ 1:49pm
I love this scenario. The ability to pick and choose where you start your settlement allows you to build a bigger settlement.
Just a few tips to anyone playing this for the first time. Right at the start, get your people to pick up the resources laying on the ground around them, and then send them to the location you have chosen. Then have them build a wood pile, and a stone one. Then build a crafter, then a hut and a hearth.
Don't forget to add 2 skin drying racks once you have a few more sticks collected, so you can build more huts.
This should give you a good start, and if anyone has anything to add, please feel free to comment in case I've missed something.

Great mod, should be a standard option in the game
ossome 13 Mar, 2019 @ 10:43am
frmdbl, there is another mod ('exile') that equips the starter with a flint knife, without unlocking other technologies :)
frmdbl  [author] 13 Mar, 2019 @ 4:33am
Subscribe to the scenario in the community section. Then choose it and play it.
JackDaw 12 Mar, 2019 @ 6:50pm
im too stupid to figure this out myself, how do you start as nomad? all i get are regular starts
frmdbl  [author] 6 Mar, 2019 @ 2:13pm
The problem though is that sledge is a mesolithic technology, so I guess spawning it would unlock all of the previous technologies.
SIX 6 Mar, 2019 @ 1:48pm
i second giving a sledge or two
frmdbl  [author] 6 Mar, 2019 @ 1:18am
@Tallestdavid That's a good idea I'll think about it.
frmdbl  [author] 6 Mar, 2019 @ 1:18am
@Welshman It's a custom scenario, you have to select it in the 'Cummunity' tab.
Varick 5 Mar, 2019 @ 2:18pm
Really enjoying this. Being able to build among the trees is awesome! Thanks for the mod. :)
Welshman 5 Mar, 2019 @ 12:06pm
Hi

How do I get this to work? I subscribe but when I load up a game it starts as normal ie no nomadic beginning.

Thank you in advance
TallestDavid 5 Mar, 2019 @ 11:07am
wish you start with a sled that would help this mod :D

Thank you!:yellowsun:
BirdyBot 4 Mar, 2019 @ 11:42am
Just did a run through of this scenario yesterday - it was fabulous, and I really loved being able to have control over where those initial buildings went up. I didn't actually start that far from the pre-determined start area, but just having the freedom to start exactly where I wanted was awesome. Thanks for putting this together, frmdbl!
frmdbl  [author] 4 Mar, 2019 @ 8:58am
@ThetaCentauri

Perhaps you decided to build too far from the start and they died carrying the resources?
Seems to be working fine for me.
ThetaCentauri 4 Mar, 2019 @ 7:43am
Sadly, my nomads didn't make it. They simply couldn't build anything :(
ThetaCentauri 4 Mar, 2019 @ 7:31am
My folks didn't start with tools and so they weren't able to build anything...
calicovi 4 Mar, 2019 @ 2:01am
awsome mod =D just what i wanted ty
TK421 3 Mar, 2019 @ 7:26pm
Thank you!
ossome 3 Mar, 2019 @ 11:15am
Love this, thanks! :)
Don't know if it was because I didn't look far enough, but it seemed to me there were less open spaces to start a village (which made it even better for me)
So I had to plan very carefully where to put what building, until I researched composite tools and could start cutting the trees that were in the way. This is how I like it xD
limbo hashashin 3 Mar, 2019 @ 4:19am
nice one, thanks

This is a great mod. I always wanted to play from scratch.

very nice, installing...
frmdbl  [author] 7 Feb, 2019 @ 9:12am
As o the new version (0.6.7) loading a saved game for a custom scenario works fine:steamhappy:
frmdbl  [author] 1 Feb, 2019 @ 2:42am
For some reasons loading the saves doesn't work for me, both for this scenario and Wolf Children.
