Any way to get this to work with the Elder Kings mod?

@petdoc1991 Unfortunately set_player_character = ROOT (the technique this mod uses to move from one player to another) moves players by "ending" the session causing the score to be tallied and placed in the "character_history={ ... }" section of the save file. The score is then added to whatever the previous value was for the characters in the list for player_name="MrHuman". As far as I am aware, there is no technique to do the equivalent of the console command to "play [id]". Definitely a bummer because this mod is a time-saver if it weren't for this bug.

You deserve a medal for this mod. So much time saved

THANK YOU! I wanted to play the whole dynasty not just the main ruler, i got sick of typing "play ID" in console all the time. You saved me.

is there a way to change the decision so I cant get points? I think the game is counting the targeted person as an heir.

does this mod allow you to play as non-landed charachters

You should add that we can play as Baron

Yep, so that's why this mod doesn't work. It requires Patch 3.0+

From patch 3.0 changelog at https://ck2.paradoxwikis.com/Patch_3.0

"Added effect set_player_character, which makes the player controlling the current character control the target character instead. Example: "set_player_character = player_heir" would result in the player taking over as their heir. Be careful, as it is entirely possible to cause an instant game over using this effect. The effect does *not* enforce remaining within the same dynasty. This effect works even in multiplayer, hence the need to be scoped to the player's character"

That the decision doesn't work for me isn't related to the "Rise of Islam" mod. It also doesn't work for me in a vanilla game.

Could it be that the "set_player_character" command is relatively new? At the moment, I'm still using version 2.8.1.1 of the base game.

Provided you have the required DLC for the characters

If the code works this will work with anything, I'm guessing it's just a minor shortcut to the "play" command

Does this mod work with either After the End Fan Fork or Elder Kings?

Very Nice! Thanks

Yes, I have the required DLC. I can switch characters using the console command, but when I used this decision, nothing happened.

I wonder whether it could be related to the particular mod I'm playing at the moment, "The Rise of Islam", which moves the start-date back before the game's standard.

Who are you trying to play as? Do you have the required DLC to play as that character? My mod doesn't do any error checking to make sure you can actually play as that character when you click the decision. It worked for every character I tried to play as though.

I love the idea. But, oddly, while I can take the decision, the character I'm playing as doesn't change. The code for the decision looks straightforward (to my knowledge of scripting CK2 decisions).
