Thanks for trying the mission!

I made this almost 12 years ago when the game was in Beta. I'd imagine a lot of the game' s code has fundamentally changed since then; as has everything else in the world.

So, you're very probably right!

Very hard mission, i do not recommend to play. No magazines, enemies kills you in one shot, enemies shot behind the doors... waste of time.

One of the better scenarios I've played so far. A lot of them are either overly simple, or frustratingly complicated. This one occupies a good middle ground. Enemy numbers are challenging but manageable, and I enjoyed scavenging weapons and explosives to carry out the ambush, which took a few tries to fine tune. Not nearly as fist-clenchingly irritating as some other missions I've played. The far off battle gives a sense of accomplishment, and the extraction was well carried out (many aren't).

This is a really fun mission to play. My only comment is that as Yrro found, I didn't have anywhere near enough ammunition, especially for a 7.62 DMR. Easy enough to scavenge a CSAT weapon & ammo though. Maybe you could put a pre-positioned virtual arsenal at the drop point? Would make the mission much easier but would let players take enough ammo & use their favourite loadouts. Great mission though :steamhappy:

Great mission! There just isn't enough mission on the workshop where you are the one ambushing the other team. It is usually you getting ambushed. I would make my own but I'm just simply not that good at the triggers and waypoints and stuff in the editor. Thanks for the mission and I hope you make more like it!

Glad you enjoyed it despite the bugs. As discussed below, this mission is out of date. The bugs are a result of the scripts having now outdated classnames and most likely outdated functions, too.

If I had the time I'd definately update it as it seems quite a few people are happening across it still. Alas, etc etc

This is a really fun mission! We played it co-op and ran into a few bugs, but they were not game breaking. In case they aren't adequately expained in the preceeding comments, we found that we didn't start with enough ammo, and ammo we picked up during the game disappeared when we loaded. But there were plenty of bodies to loot so it wasn't a problem. I gather there were supposed to be some mines in the supplies at the old outpost for us to use in the ambush, but they weren't present; however we were able to use the Zamak to block the road, and then detonate an explosive charge to cause a large enough explosion to knock out enough of the reinforcements to complete the ambush objective.

Great reply, better than pinning the blame on assuming I should know that the updates of this game would affect mods (I just got this game, didn't think it was such an issue to the point where it would infect modes like this). In my defense, no other game has affected custom missions like this so you have to see why I would assume your mission was at fault here.

Secondly, I don't think popular opinon should dictate the quality of a product. Its just not logical to think that just because something is highly rated means it will be liked by all or even function. Don't boast.

I still believe my problems are legitimate and if you were to keep this updated then I would be glad to play it in its original vision. If not, my problems still stand (aside from the anecdotal ones you've somewhat refuted).

You are free to procure the game build where this mission was last updated and then ascertain whether or not the mission was designed poorly.

Or you could ask nicely and I'll look into what is causing the conflicts. Though, I get the impression that isn't something you ever would have wanted nor thought of.

The purpose of giving and receiving criticism is to identify and address perceived flaws. You identified the issues you yourself were having without any effort to ascertain or question why you might be experiencing them.

In the 3 years since this mission's last update (and I really can't stress that point enough), it has received 97% positive ratings and has only ever been at 5 stars. If you review the comments you will witness thanks and positivity from those who have played it. You will also witness those who are having issues being helpful in attempts to resolve them.

You do not see bad design. You see possible incompatibilty as the result of a change to the game's code that was not present when the mission was designed e.g. class names changes or mods.

To quote the mission description: "night mission, encouraging stealth play". You can choose to attempt stealth or blast every fucker away and pick up the RPGs and fire them into the air with abandon. That's up to you. When this mission was designed, stealth was possible - though difficult. You could kill the officer without any detection events. It was scripted to work this way and as such, may no longer work if class names have been altered, functions changed etc.
From insertion all the way to the first objective there is tree cover, defilade and the cover of darkness from enemies without night optics (again, this may no longer be the case if class names have been altered since).

There is no such claim. The virtual arsenal, by which I think you are referring to a popular script used in Arma mission design, hadn't even been written/released. Not to my knowledge in any case. I refer to a 'custom loadout' in the mission description, which simply means a loadout suited for the mission. At the time, being in Beta over 3 years ago to remind you again, most mission makers were using default units and loadouts.

The trait of this mission most pertinant in response to your criticism is most certainly that it was a mission built whilst this game was in Beta. When considered in this temporal context you might, by your own reasoning, conclude that any issues you might have are not due to design, but incompatibilty with more recent builds of the game. And here, by recent I mean in the three years since the mission's last update.

To address your criticisms directly:

- 'One clip and no supplies'
Class names of items change all the time with updates. Those used that were current and working may have themselves changed in the past 3 years. If you have any mods installed that alter classNames then naturally there will be a conflict.

See, you can't really disregard legitimate criticism based off of the traits you've mentioned. If you literally put a note in the game asking for criticism then be open to take it.

Answer my questions:

Why would you purposefully insert one man on a mission with one clip and make him so full of items that he can barely run? If its a stealth mission then why make the environment that of a firefight mission? Why say you'll input a virtual arsenal to avoid issues like this but not provide?

You see, pinning the blame on the user who had the impression that this was a functional gamemode isn't valid. That doesn't deter my argument by any means, you still allowed for those game breaking issues.

I'm not entitled, I just see bad design and am telling you as you wanted.

Terrible feedback.

Let's download and play a mission without reviewing the date posted or date last updated, claim to experience bugs inevitable after 3 years of game patches and expansions making changes to the game code; then request that I don't make any more Arma missions despite this being the only mission I had ever made intended for public play.

Great mission here! When placing the explosives to catch the reinforcements on the road, I wasn't sure how many to put down so dropped all of them. Wouldn't you know it, it took all of them to stop the reinforcements! I was able to pick off infantry from a distance before they ever got a solid lock on me. Seemed to play like a SOCOM game - you could rain steel on soldiers from a long distance and watch them scurry around like ants, duck behind cover while remaining exposed and lob grenades this way and that trying to find you - and falling hopelessly short. Hilarious!

WOW! just played the mission and yeah the flying is awesome. makes it so much more real.

I also tried the dyna sound mod and I must say; from the beginning of the assault till I actually saw the mission stats I just wacthed the entire scene with my jaw dropped :D

There's a function that allows the recording and playback of movement. Have a look at the unitCapture and unitPlay commands.

I have to say that is the slickest flying I've ever seen from AI on the insertion, with a nice flare to a no-hover landing then up, pedal turn and scoot away. Very nice. How did you get the AI to fly that well? Almost as if a human pilot was at the controls.

Lovely Mission. The stealthiness is addictive n fun. Great choice of weaponry, the scope, 7.62 ammo weapon, and that lovely silencer haha. I shot that helicopter down n got surrounded on all ends basically, was hilarious, n I really had to shoot my way outta that bit. This mission might have a level of replayability for me. Nice mission location aswell, the mountains overlooking everything, really great choice. Thanks for your contribution to my joy. Take good care now. :D

Good scale. Had the mines problem (not showing in coop) BUT brilliantly-task done =/= level of success in the task..mission can continue; so many missions have a less than perfect task fail an entire mission, well done not falling for that trap:).

Nice mission, had no problems (vanilla A3 without mods). The reinforcement has hit only one mine and I had to do some magic with Alamut RPG I found in the compound. Managed to hit a moving BTR from 450m, something I never achieved before. :)

Really interesting mission, though being a bit bugged in Coop.
AT mines are in backpack of the 2nd player but he can't access them. Putting the backpack on the ground and picking it up with player 1 solves this problem.

Great mission, very enjoyable! One slightly odd thing, as I was advancing on the compound, an enemy helo came and started flying infinite circles around the compound, never fired at us, just flew in constant circles.
