I doubt it was exactly that because when it does come to dark groomy environments valve can deliver pretty well (Ravenholm is evidence of that) but maybe TRS took it beyond what they could and they had a bit of a panic.
Actually it makes sense it does because before the L4D2 weapons even had their own animations they had the L4D1 animations as placeholders.
and it does suck even more when you realize the animations even though were cut from the final product of L4D1, weren't cut completely meaning you could still technically see them in-game but without sounds like they're easter eggs.

Oh believe me I've seen some of TRS's work when they did L4D1, there's been a few recreations of beta No Mercy on the workshop all of which have a high attention to detail that I can respect, I just miss that unique aspect to TRS's version where you had to cock the gun when it was empty, and it does seem like in L4D2 they tried to bring that back but its just not the same when you see it even when the magazine/clip isn't even empty.
