can i make a suggestion?, maybe add hook and chain couplings to the canteen to make US stock compatible with UK stock. like buckeye couplings on one end and british couplings on the other.

hey uh gr1m going off of vandelayofficial the 4-10-10-4 was a real thing just derailed in the first test and thats about the only info on it exsept that it was made by santa fe so yeah

@InfectTheNet: You think that's bad? Historically a Triplex was only good for about 5-15kph, max. xP

But if you want to change the stats, you'll want to go to Steam\steamapps\workshop\content\446800\1741620392\res\models\model\vehicle\train\usa\Quintuplex.mdl, open it in notepad and look for the line topspeed = 80. Change that to what you want in kph.

The canteen's got a top speed set at 96 so you may need to change that too depending on what you're setting it as - you'll find that in vehicle/waggon/usa/Quintuplex_Canteen.mdl.

@power man: it's for decoration only - it has no capacity.
@VandelayOfficial: I'm considering a couple of things at the moment but haven't settled on anything. A lot of people have requested a Garratt in the past, so that's a consideration now that I know how to make one work.

Hey, I apologize if I'm being too annoying with the questions / reports, but I have another one, thankfully not game-breaking, but I still wanted to know.

The very first version of this loco had the light particle placed correctly, but starting from the second version it's hidden inside the front cabin. Can I fix this myself by editing some text strings? Once I managed to add lights to a train that didn't have them, but it was so long ago I don't remember how I did it.

I made sure I have the latest version of the mod, and did a brief test. Two saves, in both the loco is hauling 40 coal hoppers from the vanilla game, one has the canteen and the other doesn't. Save with no canteen loads fine, the one with the canteen does the crash I mentioned earlier when reaching 25% of load.

I'm no expert in modding at all, but I wonder if this is somehow related to the fact the canteen doesn't seem to fit into any type of rolling stock. You can only buy it if you set the "all" filter on the depot, it doesn't appear if you filter by locomotives or wagons. I've also noticed the canteen has a driver inside.

@n.chiri: weird. I've got 1km coal trains that are working fine. Which carriage specifically are you using?

Also, I just posted another update (New horn sound taken from the Big Boy and some minor model fixes) so try again with the new file and let me know.

What happens is that I assign the loco + canteen to haul a 50 wagon coal train. Then I save the game, quit, and it gives me that error when I try to reload it. I've tried the same without any wagons and it did not crash. Maybe I'm going too over the top with the train lenght for the game engine? I don't know.

@n.chiri it seems to be working on my end with no issues (I've checked it all, including downloading the current version on steam and can't seem to recreate the issue). My only thought is it's a gremlin from an older version. Are you sure the mod's up to date? Try unsubbing and resubbing.

I'm getting an error related to the canteen's MDL file. When I try to load a save with the loco and canteen on it, it says that the file "lod_0_w1.msh" does not exist.

I'm a tiny bit disappointed this isn't like a 150mph super express locomotive. With a cab like that up front it'd be seriously cool to have a high-speed steam passenger train.

UPDATE: Okay, a lot of changes to note here. I've gone back and redone the textures and tinting and made several changes to the mesh. I've fixed the 'not-so-hidden' hidden wheels issue so this train is now bridge friendly. Top speed has been nerfed to 80kph and an animation bug has been fixed. I've also added a canteen/auxiliary tender as a carriage with no capacity (this has a placeable asset, too) and changed the in-game description.

You know, it does not matter if this loco never existed or if it seems 'absurd', similar ideas did exist and that's a whole section of steam train history that gets rarely mentioned and I don't think it's ever been presented in a train sim/game.
If nothing else, gr1m has made some of us aware that such strange beasts did exist! :steamhappy:

@n.chiri: Yeah, I'm aware, and I'm trying to work on a better fix. Unfortunately the game doesn't particularly 'like' the whole setup of everything, so it's a bit of a messy workaround for now until I can figure it out. There'll be an update ASAP.

@SoftwareSimian: Yeah, it's inspired by those designs, not a direct reproduction or anything.

One can easily edit the values of a locomotive by messing a bit with the MDL file without too much modding knowledge. That's what I usually do when I'm not happy with a vehicle's default stats, create a copy of the mod and edit the values.

I wanted to "report" something. I say "report" between quotation marks because I assume gr1m already knows about it, but I'm telling anyway. There are some fixed wheels like "hanging" below the model in the middle between the rails, it's noticeable when it goes over a bridge. Other than that, awesome mod, this might be silly and unnecessary to some, but I love non-ordinary things like this.

@Dingbat: I get what you mean, and don't get me wrong, I'm considering nerfing the top speed. As a workaround in the meantime though, there are a couple of invisible wagon mods that restrict the top speed of trains that you might be interested in.

I remember reading about the Triplexes that existed on rail for a brief time. These trains couldn't move faster than 10 mph and they BURNED their fuel.

If this had limited speed I would consider using this.
